Agree. Baseball lasts way too long. I usually watch more football anyway, but have to say this world series was great stuff. I didn’t want to miss it.

GMTA. Exactly. It was much like last year where the WS was anti-climatic after beating the Yankees in the ACLS.

The last caller on The Ticket's Diamond Talk just expressed the same thought you did here.

Reminds me of a funny story. My first house, Halloween. I buy a 5lb. bag of candy and sit and wait for the kids. None show 'til about almost 9:00pm, when I hear a faint knock on the door. "Trick or treat, mister" says the little guy about five years old. I dumped the whole 5lbs. into his sack. His eyes lit up, "THANK YOU, MISTER!!" His dad, down at the bottom of the steps, just dropped his head.

ROTFL!

MLB is talking about adding another wild card team to each league. The season is way too long as it is.

Ugh, I agree! I love baseball, but enough already.

This may be a stupid question, but here goes... Can fans participate or vote in keeping baseball the way it is (or making the season a bit shorter)? Or is it just up to Bud Selig and the MLB honchos?

I am so sorry about your Rangers. I was cheering them on back when my Red Sox were embarrassing themselves in mid-September (both on and off the field). I really like Nolan Ryan, David Murphy, Adrian Beltre and several of the other Rangers, including lots of Rangers' fans my husband and I have met over the years at Fenway Park (we haven't visited the two Texas ballparks yet). It was nice to cheer for such a classy team!

That epic Game 6 was one of the biggest heartbreakers I think I've ever witnessed. The Texas Rangers should be proud - they're the AL Champions... and I'm sure they're going to come back really strong in 2012.

At the very least, the method where the All-Star game determines home-field advantage has to go. I favor that being awarded to the team with the best record.

I agree... that makes much more sense.

What were those... Mallow cups or something? they were pretty good

No... M&M/Mars candies = Plain and Peanut (and other new flavors) M&Ms, Snickers, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Twix, Starburst (chews). Mostly chocolate bars...

Where are you? I know you don’t know me but I know you are a baseball fan! lol I remember you got hurt catching a ball...and you were on the thread last nite!

LOL, I can't believe you remember my baseball injury. Yes, my arm was broken by Adrian Beltre (unintentionally, of course!) during batting practice at Fenway Park, Boston. He hit a 400 ft ball that landed squarely on my left arm (could've been a LOT worse).

Here's that thread from June 2010 (that's NOT my arm in the pic, btw):

Nutmeg Struck By Fly Ball To Center Field

I live in the People's Republik of Connecticut, unfortunately.

Congratulations on the Cardinals' World Series victory! They were awesome, and deserved the win. Pujols is a classy guy, and Freese earning MVP is incredible... what a story for a "hometown boy"! Really a fantastic win... enjoy! :-)

Washington’s errors along with just awful fielding made Game 6 the Bill Buckner game for Texas....

they had won that game twice(9th and 10th innings) and just blew it....

it is going to be Hard for Ryan, but he needs to start at the top (Washington) to fix the Rangers....

Problem is, if both Fielder and Pujols go elsewhere, at least one of them will probably end up with the Cubs.

If I had to bet, I’d say Pujols re-signs with the Cardinals, and Epstein will move quickly to pick up Fielder for the Cubs.

Pujols will want something like 10 years, $300 million to leave, which will be hard to justify for most teams for a guy who is already 30. Major injuries aside, he could certainly play until he’s 40, but not as an every day player in the NL. Any NL team that signs him to such a contract will get to look forward to trying to trade him to an AL team (which will certainly involve eating part of his contract) when he’s no longer able to play first base every day. $30 million a year is a tad much to pay a pinch hitter.

Signing Pujols is exactly the sort of move the Cubs hired Epstein to make, but history and common sense suggests that he’ll go for the younger (and relatively cheaper) Fielder. I’ve heard some talk that the Phillies might try to cut loose of Ryan Howard and sign Pujols, but I just don’t see it happening.

At the same time, Pujols has a lot of good reasons to stay in St. Louis, even if it means less money. He already lives there, all his charity work is there, and (most importantly since I think he really cares about this) his legacy is there. If he goes somewhere else, it will be looked at as a second career for him, and he’ll be expected to reproduce what he did in his 20s in order to not be seen as a failure. If he stays in St. Louis, it will all be seen as one big Hall-of-Fame career, even when he’s in his decline. Besides, history prefers the guys who stay with one team.
