The city of Denver is bringing in thousands of dollars in fines every year by ticketing people who stop at red lights. They are ticketed because their tire goes over the white line that marks where the vehicle should stop.
The red light cameras at various intersections in the city will flash and the driver will be sent a $75 citation if the vehicle goes over the white line, even if the driver stops for the light.
They are stealing money. Who has extra money to pay? asked one driver.
I think this is an injustice, its just completely unfair, said another.
I didnt go through the red light. I just didnt stop at the white line, said yet another driver. I feel its a frivolous charge. If an officer had been present, I would not have been given that ticket.
That driver went to court to fight the ticket and lost.
According to the law, Steady red indication:
a. Vehicular traffic facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a clearly marked stop line but, if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection and shall remain standing until an indication to proceed is shown; except that
1. Such vehicular traffic, after coming to a stop and yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection, may make a right turn unless an official sign is erected at each and every intersection where such right turn is prohibited.
2. Such vehicular traffic, when proceeding on a one-way street, and after coming to a stop, may make a left turn onto a one-way street upon which traffic is moving to the left of the driver. Such turn shall be made only after yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians and other traffic proceeding as directed. No such turn shall be made if a sign is erected giving notice of any such prohibition at each and every intersection where such left turn is prohibited.
Pay it in pennies.
And therein lies the problem. What's to stop an unscrupulous bus driver from writing down the plate of someone who cut them off in traffic and reporting it as a stopped bus runner?
I wish they’d ticket the drivers who stop 10 feet back from the line. What’s up with that?
not if they find your post, you won’t.
Slimy bast*rds; the perpetrators of this shameful nonsense should be run out of town on a rail.
Who are “they,” and what are they going to do?
Stop being so greedy, One Driver, it's for the children.
What about the ‘creepers’ who stop short then slowly start and stop to get up to the light while it’s still red? Annoys me to no end.
In a nearby city at a busy intersection cops are writing tickets left and right, only they aren’t using cameras. There is also a fairly busy rail road crossing at that intersection and motorists are clearly warned by signs proclaiming loudly not to pass the tracks when the car traffic light is red and do not block the tracks with your vehicle, while waiting for the light to turn.
You are supposed to stop and wait behind the rail crossing but beyond the crossing there’s room for a couple of cars, so people just cannot wait to fill up all that extra space.
If I am first at the red light and stop properly, cars will pull out around me to take that extra space and gain two whole car lengths advantage on me. Screw them they deserve tickets.
Many times the city has a police car sitting nearby in plain sight and people do it anyway, like I said, screw them, they deserve a ticket.
This happened to me once when I was young, agile and good at climbing. I walked right across the guy's hood where the crosswalk was. I could hear him swearing at me as I high-tailed it over to the other side.
There wasn't a whole lot he could do since there was cross traffic flowing to his front and another car stopped at his rear.
I still get a chuckle when I recall the look on his face.
Unfortunately, city govts are usually self insured which means that you are going to collect from your fellow citizens.
“Im waiting for the day when the people start fighting back against these extortion cameras being placed everywhere.”
Americans need to do what they’ve done in the UK for years. Put an old tyre around the device and “set it a light!”
Instantaneously the Fulton "authorities" caused mile long backups into Cobb county. When the Cobb residents scomplained, they got the usual government arrogant BS about it being set correctly, but that Fulton would "study the problem" and might or might not change the setting.
Then one night someone put several rifle rounds through the timing mechanism, and all of a sudden Fulton decided that it was in their best interests to fix the light the way it was before they screwed with it. Just say'n.
“Im waiting for the day when the people start fighting back against these extortion cameras being placed everywhere.”
my father’s generation would’ve drilled a 30-06 through one of these within a week of its being installed..
There. Leave me out of that.
LoL....
I was fantasizing.
I drive a semi... Trust me, you really want me to creep a little. It’s that or risk the chance of 45 thousand pounds of our toilet paper pushing me into the back of your friends car. Anytime I drive a stick I work the lights.
Years ago, my son got a ticket because he paused at the stop sign, and bumped on through, REASON he did this, there was a care behind him that was not going to stop and would have rear ended him.
Policewoman said: "You should have let them hit you" IDIOT.
Went to court, DISMISSED. Told the Judge what the policewoman said.
