New Jerry Sandusky Rumor Threatens To Make Penn State Scandal Much Worse
SBNation.com ^ | Nov. 10,. 2011 | Jason Kirk

Posted on 11/10/2011 8:31:48 AM PST by Colofornian

Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky has been charged with sexually abusing eight children, with something like a dozen more also claiming they were victimized. That's horrible. Powerful PSU figures appear to have attempted to cover up what they knew. That makes it even worse.

But if one rumor turns out to be true, this may become a story too awful to compare to any other.

There's been nothing reported by an investigative journalist or law enforcement official so far, but a handful of media members are talking about investigations into whether Sandusky may have shared some of his victims with other adult males.

From two days ago, here's Dan Bernstein of CBS Chicago:

@dan_bernstein FYI: names are being x-checked w/Sandusky's Second Mile, and there are other older adult men with "curious" relationships. Only the start.

Thursday morning, Mark Madden, a Pittsburgh radio host who wrote a story seven months ago envisioning Sandusky's downfall, went on WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Morning Show to discuss the scandal. At the 7:15 mark here, he's asked about the "next shoe to drop." Here are his remarks:

I can give you a rumor, and I can give you something I think might happen. I hear there's a rumor that there will be a more shocking development from the Second Mile foundation. And, hold on to your stomachs because this is gross, I'll use the only language that I can, that Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to donors. This is being investigated by two prominent columnists as I speak.

Madden also speculates it'll be revealed that Sandusky was told to retire as part of a cover-up.

CBS Sports' Gregg Doyel tweeted the following later in the morning, appearing to cite a source besides Madden:

@greggdoyelcbs I'm told Penn's atty general has this sick Sandusky rumor on the radar. Warning, awful read http://t.co/Wy4uiuiD

We can hope none of this is true, but multiple outlets are saying it's being investigated. If it is, let's then hope investigators are able to find it never happened.

Mike McQueary already said that he's 'probably' not going to be on the sidelines. I think the weathermen will upgrade that forecast to 'no chance in h*ll' by Saturday.

I think McQueary has coached his last game.

Yes, he reported the incident to Paterno, and talked with Curley and Schultz. But he saw the rape in progress, and his testimony is that he made eye contact with both Sandusky and the pre-teen boy.

The boy realized that another adult, a hulking 6'5", 28-year old former football QB, saw him being raped and knew that help was there . . . and McQueary walked away.

McQueary is in charge of recruiting for Penn State.

He's been going into homes and looking at parents and telling them that Penn State will take care of their nineteen year-old sons.

He was on the road recruiting and going into homes on Sunday when the story broke.

How do you think the parents he visited on this road swing feel right now, after hosting him in their homes?

For what it's worth, I think college athletes should get some compensation for the money that they bring to their schools. I know I'm not alone.

The point is that everybody should play by the same rules; which means this is a different subject than the thread.

Bears repeating. There was NO EXCUSE for walking away...absolutely none.

Why the outrage? Isn’t being gay regarded as merely an “alternative” lifestyle, forced by law to be accepted as normal in our society? We even allow child adoption by gay couples.

That's what I'm wondering. Maybe Sandusky was just helping "gay" children accept who they really are? Isn't that what we're told we should do? *spit*

We will not have to wait long till certain irregularities will come to light in our Armed Forces in the future.

Wait? LOL. A dog returning to his vomit...

Supposedly, MCqueary’s father is (was) friends with Sandusky.

So—the question was should the NCAA give PSU the death penalty or not? A lot of people are calling for it. These violations are a lot more serious than recuiting violations.

The Sandusky "phallic symbol" ice cream dessert at the local creamery.

Everybody knew what this guy was doing. The was like a campus wide "non-secret". That is why it wasn't reported to the police. It was old news. Why report something to the police that they already knew about.

MissEdie:

What caused this to appear know is a grand jury indictment resulting from eighteen months of investigation and testimony.

And that investigation arose because a mother and a high school coach and principal reported suspected sexual abuse, which opened the door to . . . much more.

What's made it such a big story is that it isn't about one incident. It's about something unspeakably evil that happened to many young boys over a long period while many men in positions of power were silent and did little or nothing, or actively covered it up. This happened at an academic institution that was nationally renowned for its morals and ethics, and involved a college athletic program that, until Sunday, would have been mentioned by almost any fan in the nation, no matter their allegiance, as one of the two or three most spotless and upstanding, if not the most spotless and upstanding. And one of the men involved in the silence has been viewed by millions for decades as the Nation's Grandfather.

The indictment only addressed eight boys; in approximately thirty-six hours after the indictment became public, authorities confirmed that the count had grown to twenty boys. Authorities have asked for more to come forward.

And since the pedophile was still working with the same charity for troubled youth until 2008, and still had access to the university's facilities until this weekend, we have no idea how many other boys were abused. This pedophile also abused boys at local high schools and other locations.

And yet, there were signs - if you call more than one incident of a fifty-five year old man showering nude with pre-teen boys that he was supposedly mentoring merely a 'sign' - at least as early as 1998.

And nothing meaningful was done. By University Police. By a District Attorney. By a man powerful enough that, when he was asked by the Trustees of the institution in 2005 to retire at age 78, simply said no. By university administrators. By other members of the coaching staff. By members of a charity to help troubled youth. By a janitor who witnessed the man later performing oral sodomy on a pre-teen boy in the football showers. By a 6'5", 28 year-old former QB who witnessed the anal rape of a pre-teen boy in the football showers.

There's an element of terror that something so unspeakable could be so large and exist for so long at a place that by outward appearances was the Best of the Best at ethics and morals. And as it keeps growing, students at the school rioted because one of the men who turned a blind eye was fired . . . because, after all, he's won football games for them in the past, and he's been a good influence in the lives of other young men.

There's a sinking feeling about how many lives were ruined that would not have been ruined if someone had done the right thing in 1998, or 2000, or 2002.

The charges are only now coming to light because many men in positions of power and moral authority chose not to speak or to act.

And that is exactly the problem...

i hope list of rich donors will be revealed.

A list of rich DEMOCRAT donors with household names.

Why, in the name of God, would someone wish to find out more children had been molested?!

I'm hoping and praying that this rumor is just that. Not because I love Penn State, but because I don't want to find out that any more kids have been involved.

That this sick.

This is NO “scandal”.... and the attempt to white-wash this in a scandal basket with the label as only a “scandal”.

Yes, and I bet it is connected with the NA group (I cannot even bear to type their disgusting name).

That group permeates into many areas, such as schools and churches, and our very own government. It is a recruiting organization for future members and a secret society in that those on the outside have no idea who they are.

If there is a silver lining in this thunderboomer of a cloud, maybe people will be awakened to the reality of that group instead of thinking, "aw, there would never be a group such as that" Too many of these people have squeaky clean criminal records and can get by any background investigation. Their victims in most cases are too humiliated to be discovered and the crimes are never reported.

If there is a downside to this, it is one that desensitizes the public to hearing about these types of things, which as those pushing for its acceptance want to happen. In the meantime as the public becomes desensitized, they go back to their bread and circuses, while the creeps move into a new level of creepiness. Frankly, my mind can not think of much creepier than what I have heard this week.
