Rick Perry: On the Rebound and Ready to Put America Back to Work (and secure the Mexican border)
Fox News ^ | November 10, 2011 | Greta VanSusteren - On the Record

Posted on 11/11/2011 3:19:44 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

PERRY: Yes. You know, I said something at the Orlando debate that was arrogant. May have been because I thought I knew it all because I'd been the governor. As a matter of fact, my wife said, What you said was insulting.

.......And one thing I will promise the American people and -- is that within 12 months, within 12 months of my inaugural, that border will be secure and it will be shut down because we'll put the strategic fencing in place. We'll put the boots on the ground. We'll put the aviation assets in place. And that border will be shut down and secure within 12 months.

.........And to have a conversation about any of these issues until that border is secure is nothing more than an intellectual discussion. I'm not going to engage in those. I'm going to stay focused on the most important things the president of the United States is going to do, dealing with that border, is to secure it.

I know how to do it. I've been dealing with this for 10 years.....

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you do it simultaneously with developing some sort of immigration policy, whatever that may be, for the people who are here illegally in the United States, or do you this in one step, first secure the border, then we'll figure out what to do with that, or do you do it simultaneously?

PERRY: You do the border first. If you do not first secure the border, you're wasting your time. And that is my commitment to the American people. Within 12 months, that border will be shut down, the illegal activities will be stopped, and that border will be secure.....

Why not ask the same of the other candidates. The only candidate touting a full border fence is Bachman.

Incorrect. Cain and Romney have also said they'd build the fence. You must have missed Cain's joke, or whatever about an "electric fence". Probably Santorum also. Not sure where Newt is on the fence, but he's very weak on what to do with the illegals already here.

Of course, he will still in his own words “make sure illegals can come and go freely” as he secures it.

Heartless of me to point out his duplicitous meanderings.

Feel free to throw a tantrum.

I kinda liked his performance on the Letterman Top Ten list.

Maybe he and Huckabee can form a comedy duo and go on the road.

Governor Perry is the only candidate running who WILL secure the border.

I watched anita's boi toy on Greta's show last night and he did good.

He is not the only candidate that will close the border, but he did learn his lesson about his "heartless" dressing down that he gave us.

The only way he'd get my vote is if it's down to a two pubbie shoot out and mittens is the other one left.

With much fear, I'd push the anita button, but if he won I'd be scared to watch him going toe to toe with the one.

No they didn't and if you watched Face the Nation Cain basically used Perry's border security plan as his own. Even backed of on the electric thing (which is really a silly notion that he would ever do that anyway. Imagine a 2000 mile electric fence).

Mitt we already knows says whatever it takes to get elected and Cain backtracked the very next day and said he was joking and a week later is touting Perry's plan (but calling it his own).

I have heard that Perry's plan came from his visits to Israel and patterned after their border system.

Perry is just doing what he said he was going to do and give America a good dose of honesty. We can take it or leave it but I promise you this, by 2020, no matter who gets elected we will not have a full border fence. The question is will we have a secure border or is everything just campaign rhetoric. I already know Perry has put his and my money where his mouth is for at least the last 6-7 years.

It does not matter how expensive it is or how long it will take... if our Border is not rock solid secure... nothing else matters. mexicans cost us annually far more than any Israeli styled fence we could buy. Do you also buy into the age old dimrat mantra as to why we can't drill our own oil... “If we started today... it would take 10 years to get enough oil flowing to make a difference”... they have been saying that for 20 plus years. Start now... git’er dun on both parts!

He said he wouldn’t apologize for proposing a combination of tactics to crack down on illegal immigration that would include a fence, "and it might be electrified. I’m not walking away from that. I just don’t want to offend anyone."

Herman Cain apologizes for comments on border fence

And Romney has supported a fence and border security at least since 2008, and was supported by Tom Tancredo and Sheriff Joe in 2008. And, recall that George W. Bush firmly opposed amnesty and "rewarding illegal behavior" during the 2004 debates with pro-amnesty John Kerry.

Most all candidates dance around this issue to some extent, but Perry is by far the most disingenuous on the issue this go round. A guy who approved in-state tuition, has long opposed a border fence and opposed E-Verify in his state is not to be trusted on campaign year rhetoric. He's another Jorge Bush and Juan McCain on this issue, and that's why he nosedived in the polls as soon as the voters realized it.

You should stop misrepresenting other candidates stances in order to make Perry look better. He has shown us what he is on this issue based on past decisions.

His apology rings hollow... basically... “I am sorry for saying what I said and for the way I said it”.

He should apologize for his actions and he should admit that his paying in state tuition for illegals is wrong... both morally and fiscally. He has not changed... he is trying to walk back the damage his statement caused his candidacy.

newt did much the same with globull warming... he has not changed his stance on it.... he believes in it and says we must face it... but he did not admit that he was wrong for taking the position that he took. He also did not apologize for his Alaskan cruise with pelosi and hildebeast and the damage that has caused in our fight against the eco-terrorism of globull warming and the one world order marxists that created the scam. IOW... I am sick of lifelong politicians that operate only in their best interest.

When I see a guy shout from the top of his lungs "It will be electrified with a sign that says "this will kill you!"

And the next day says it was a joke. Then a week later says it might be electrified but I don't want to offend anyone, it's clear he is pandering.

Perry has not been disingenuous, he just doesn't talk out of both sides of his mouth when it comes to securing the border.

You see I know what Rick Perry will do because he has done it and has touted it for some time. I don't know what Herman will do because he is very wishy washy on the subject. If he can say "it may be electric" why should I believe he has any fortitude to do anything. You are requiring me to trust him but his words are a mish mash. I can't vote for someone who talks like that.

Either stand your ground or don't talk about it in the first place.

Voting for Cain requires one to turn off their common sense and trust him.

when you actually watch the interview it is clear he is winging it. Post the video if you dare.

By the way, I don't like E-Verify because it's just one more government intrusion in to the citizens life to stop what can be stopped by enforcing laws and securing the border.

E-Verify is a freaking terrible idea if your an American citizen. 9-11 caused enough erosion of our freedoms.

Also you put a link to Cain apologizing for the electric fence then you post a transcript where there might be one. DO you see how he is pandering and there is no way to really know what he will do.

You can promote Romney as a border security guy all you want but that will never fly. Are you telling me he has the fortitude to do it?

Is that before or after he grants amnesty to the Illegal Alien Horde infesting America?

....PERRY: Well, let me just put it this way. The federal government's complete and absolute failure to secure our border put a lot of pressure on governors no matter where they might be to have to deal with issues. You are required to give health care, you are required to give education. And Texans made a decision -- are we going to kick these people to the side of the road and they are going to become tax wasters? Or are we going to require that they become citizens of the United States and become taxpayers? We chose the latter. I would still do that today, considering the barriers that if you will, the arena that we have to work in.

1. Against E-verify as a tool to keep Illegals from gaining employment in the US.
2. Against a complete border fence to effectively limit and make is much harder to enter the US illegally.
3. Against Interior Enforcement, A.K.A. AZ1070 and the Georgia Law which makes it much more difficult for Illegals to live in the US
4. For Comprehensive Immigration Reform - Code word Amnesty.
5. For Amnesty - And Texans made a decision -- are we going to kick these people to the side of the road and they are going to become tax wasters? Given that Perry has the following positions:

The exact same thing applies to Perry when you consider his weakness on border issues, even more so.

As usual, the Perry worshippers ignore the evidence.

I really don't hate any of them. Although I DO hate Obama. I hate him as a person, I hate his lies, his personality and I especially hate his image. I cannot even listen to him speak. I have to leave or turn the channel.

Romney is just another phony politician I see clearly through. Gingrich is another. But I do not hate them and as people, they are just human beings. And most of all, none of them deserve to be placed on a pedestal or alter and worshiped. And I never get emotionally involved for any reason. There seems to be way too much of that going on around this Forum lately which is why things are going so badly for our side.

Right but we can sit and bash anyone and every one. that's easy but the goal is to get rid of Obama.

I agree. And, I've tried not to attack other candidates, but sometimes it's pretty darn hard.

Where is her border fence bill she wrote?

Good question. I don't trust any career politician with this issue because the powers that be don't want to solve the problem. There are theories for that from cheap labor to propping up Social Secuirty. I don't know why, but I don't think any career politician really want to solve the problem. You say Perry's the person based on his record. But, I and a lot of other folks see question marks in that record. Maybe you're right. If he is nominated, I hope you're right. I think our best chance of solving the immigration problem, and a lot of other problems, is with someone who is not a career politician.

OK, YOU go build that fence with YOUR several $billion dollars and then maybe you’ll understand why ARIZONA is still whining and crying because they have too many illegal aliens cross their 300 miles with partial fence TODAY!

Israel is 70 freaking miles across at the farthest and 14 miles at the shortest. YOU COULD WALK OR DRIVE THAT FENCE every so many minutes. Let’s see you build your Israeli style 1200 mile fence and then walk 1200 miles of it to keep the intruders out!

Naive much? Or just lying to yourself! Frankly I don’t want to spend $billions that we don’t have for a FAILURE!

Why wont Cain or Romney or Newt give us their plan. Because no one is asking because the true leader is the one being asked the hard questions. What is Cain's plan?

You don't require him to give you one yet you will vote for him. What exactly do you require Herman Cain to give you in terms of record and policy for your vote?

You require Perry to answer questions you wont even ask your preferred candidate. The reason you wont ask is because you know it will be the same. At least Perry is honest and forth right about it.

Look the time is coming where we have to vote for a President. Herman Cain is a great personality but if your wife is a Democrat and you were up until '96 voting for Clinton, you are simply rhetoric. Newt, Mitt or Perry are the ones with the record to look at. I'm not voting for a guy with no record

And NO, I never believed we needed to cap our oil wells since scientists have known that oil is not fossil fuel and is replenishable from the earth’s core since the 1960’s when our government shoved their Peak Oil crisis hoax down our throats so we couldn’t sell our oil and gain wealth from it. Wealthy Americans are the enemies of the Marxist democrats who prefer Americans living off a pittance of government controlled money.
