Rick Perry: On the Rebound and Ready to Put America Back to Work (and secure the Mexican border)
Fox News ^ | November 10, 2011 | Greta VanSusteren - On the Record

Posted on 11/11/2011 3:19:44 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

PERRY: Yes. You know, I said something at the Orlando debate that was arrogant. May have been because I thought I knew it all because I'd been the governor. As a matter of fact, my wife said, What you said was insulting.

.......And one thing I will promise the American people and -- is that within 12 months, within 12 months of my inaugural, that border will be secure and it will be shut down because we'll put the strategic fencing in place. We'll put the boots on the ground. We'll put the aviation assets in place. And that border will be shut down and secure within 12 months.

.........And to have a conversation about any of these issues until that border is secure is nothing more than an intellectual discussion. I'm not going to engage in those. I'm going to stay focused on the most important things the president of the United States is going to do, dealing with that border, is to secure it.

I know how to do it. I've been dealing with this for 10 years.....

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you do it simultaneously with developing some sort of immigration policy, whatever that may be, for the people who are here illegally in the United States, or do you this in one step, first secure the border, then we'll figure out what to do with that, or do you do it simultaneously?

PERRY: You do the border first. If you do not first secure the border, you're wasting your time. And that is my commitment to the American people. Within 12 months, that border will be shut down, the illegal activities will be stopped, and that border will be secure.....

Ok, who will have to be subject to e-verify. Only Hispanics? What about middle Easterners or south Americans? How about every red blooded American will be subject to E-Verify from my 16 year old kid to my grandpa. "E-Verify to keep illegals from getting a job" sound like more intrusive bull to me.

I think a border fence is a bad idea too. It takes will. A fence in the middle of Big Bend is terrible and it would never ever pass Congress. Even if it did it's a bad idea.

No he's not. he supported Arizona in court and has said the federal government has no right interfering in a sovereign states decision on how to deal with the Federal failure to secure the border. He said he wasn't for it in Texas because he didn't want LEO's taking on that added responsibility. I will add that if you get arrested in Texas for anything and are illegal, you get deported.

Every candidate running is for "comprehensive immigration reform" Perry alone has said that is meaningless until you stem the flow at the border by securing it.

Bottom line, you do not require any other candidates to answer the same questions you demand Perry to.

Hey I can respect that but when you look at the alternatives you may be glad Perry is still in the race come election time.

I refuse to get testy or ugly with you... it is all so unnecessary. Just because you say it can't be done or is impossible or too expensive does not matter at all. Americans want that southern border closed and the illegal invaders to be stopped DEAD in their tracks... and if America survives these perilous times... we will get that border sealed. Billions for acorn and every single leftist/communist group under the Sun... but none for sealing up our most open security hole... just does not make sense.

THE ONLY WAY you are going to seal that border is with armed and dangerous boots on the ground and in the air patrolling it.

It was Perry’s very first idea to put the military training camps on that border that would keep us in a continuous feed of personnel to patrol it with money that is already budgeted for national defense. The mountains, canyons and wilderness on our border are ideal for training our military.

Rather than spent $billions on a fence that won’t even stop a piss ant much less a bunch of criminal gangsters or narco and muslim terrorists.

Not only does that plan supply us personnel, it also makes better use of the dollars than on a fence that constantly has to be maintained especially with technology that would have be paid for to replace over and over as the criminals steal it.

I want that kind of thinking in our White House. SOLUTIONS to the problem especially ones that protect us from running up UNNECESSARY DEBT.

This is the worst interview I have ever read on Rick Perry, and you posted it.

Have you ever seen an anti-illegal-immigrant bumper sticker? Of course not, because people are afraid, they know their cars, or family would be vandalized. People know how violent the illegal aliens are.

I have seen the “piss on American stickers” on cars, because Americans are weak and there is no danger. But I will never see an anti-Mexican-bumper sticker.

This interview solidifies my objection to Rick Perry.

Fair enough, and Perry is much preferrable to Mr. Flip-flop Plastic-hair.

What does that have to do with the millions, I repeat, the millions of illegal aliens already in our country?

Newt hasn’t said a lot on the border issue that I’ve heard. I think he might be another “secure the border first” candidate and he has made recent statements suggesting some types of amnesty in the future. He needs to be flushed out on this. I think he might lose some of his recent gains when people learn more about his position on illegal immigration. He’s been scoring points by staying above the fray and offering some good, but mostly very general comments here and there.

All that can be said about Romney is what I have already said. With any of them we have to assess how they’d govern on any given issue with Republican control in the House and Senate.

Cain has been clear about building a fence and enforcing the law. He’s has used a less than specific phrase: “use the path to citizenship we already have”, which needs to be clarified.

Whatever, as I’ve already said, all the candidates dance around on this issue to some extent, especially when it comes to who to do with the 15 million or so illegals already here.

But there is no doubt that Perry is the worst of all and his attempts at damage control on this haven’t been very successful.

And we’ll never have internal enforcement of immigration law without something like E-Verify to identify who is or is not eligible to work legally in the US. If you oppose such systems we’ll never be able to avoid hiring illegals and never be able to identify visa overstayers.

Opposing that on some civil liberties grounds is just BS from folks who want no enforcement of immigration law. Legal citizens already have numerous IDs and records with various levels of government. Opposing E-Verify mostly enables illegals to continue their illegal existence and employment in the US.

You’re wasting your time trying to convince any remotely well informed people that Perry will be strong on border enforcement, let along immigration law enforcement in general.

Follow the conversation, rather than introduce new complaints. The poster commented on the border cameras. After a long conversation between normy and others about the “revolving door” that exists when we deport invaders and they come right back.

From history, we know that the illegals go home occasionally. We deport them - not as many as we should, but some. And then they come right back in. We must stop this revolving door, and the numbers in the country will go down.

Who are you rooting for and what is their plan for the border and the millions of illegals in this nation?

I read this, but then I'm reminded of a thread that you posted, Perry suggests US visa program to let illegal immigrants come and go freely and it doesn't match up. He wants to secure the border, but create a new visa program to allow illegal immigrants to come and go freely.

Since you bring up Perry’s wife by making the snide little comment about the “anita” (sic) button:

There’s no way I’m going to push the “Gloria” button unless she gets out and tells us why she voted in both the Democrat and Republican primaries in 2006 and why she voted Democrat in 2008.

It’s my theory that the reason we haven’t seen her (or the kids?) speak is because of her Democrat leanings.

We already have a Democrat FLOTUS. Why does - or maybe *does* - the Gloria the Democrat want her husband to be the Republican President?

Oh, please.

“The truth is, I am intrigued and open to the Bush administration’s amnesty proposal. Most Texans would agree that it’s better to have legal, taxpaying immigrants from Mexico working in the United States than illegal immigrants living in fear of the law and afraid to access basic services.” -Rick Perry
