Colin Powell Blames Media and Tea Party for Divisive Tone in Washington

Colin Powell on Sunday blamed the media as well as the Tea Party for the divisive political tone in Washington.

Not surprisingly, neither the class warfare stoked by President Obama and his Party nor the resulting Occupy Wall Street movement was mentioned during this seven minute interview with Christiane Amanpour on ABC's This Week (video follows with transcript and commentary):

they likely had the idea that this would be worked out. It wasn’t. Like the dimwits we have in office today....everyone just stood up and said they’d overlook slavery and just keep going.

It most certainly was worked out!

In deference to slave owners and the financial impact of doing away with slavery immediately, the Constitutional convention opted for a twenty year plan. Their feet unfortunately didn’t feel any heat as time passed.

Historical documents indicate this item in article 1 section 9 was not merely for the slave trade, but slavery in general.

In Article 1, Section 9, Congress is limited, expressly, from prohibiting the “Importation” of slaves, before 1808. The slave trade was a bone of contention for many, with some who supported slavery abhorring the slave trade. The 1808 date, a compromise of 20 years, allowed the slave trade to continue, but placed a date-certain on its survival. Congress eventually passed a law outlawing the slave trade that became effective on January 1, 1808.

Above paragraph from:http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_slav.html

IMHO Congress should have been on top of the situation right from the beginning with the countdown of the 20 years and the date certain, in order to end the slave trade and slavery in the process. The civil war was an unfortunate result of their error.

I agree General. We refuse to go along with the policies that are bankrupting and destroying this great nation. And we’re bound and determined, come hell or high water, to put a stop to it! That’s pretty divisive and I’m damned proud of it!

Once upon a time, many many moons ago, I respected Powell. Those days are long gone.

"I have never had any respect for him."

Same here. I never really paid him any attention because he never got close to running.
I didn't know much about him until he endorsed ZERO. . . .

A “divisive tone” occurs whenever anyone disagrees with Colon.

General Tommy Franks called him... “An affirmative action General”.

General Frans is correct. We have had far too many affirmative action promotions in the military.

OMG... This weekend was filled with The Establishment Punditry Class and former power players on a tear to fill their egos via “me too I am still relevant” ergo Clinton and Powell, all chiming in on what the Republicans should do.

And not a word on the multiple failures of the anointed one, especially on the Middle East decaying at a rapid rate...

Yet the 2 most despised men on the planet Bush and Cheney didn't say a thing, funny how that character thing kicks in and causes some to behave like real men...

colin powel is upset because he has been shut out of politics. He calculated parties do not matter. parties are just convenience.

Once in the pentagon he turned out to be a desk jockey politician.

My letter, IN THE MAILBOX, to General Powell...

November 28, 2011

General Colin Powell, U.S. Army (Ret.)
1317 Ballantrae Farm Drive
McLean, VA 22101

Dear General Powell;

Please forgive me, General, but I just had to write after watching and listening to your latest spew of political ignorance - and arrogance - over the weekend on ABC television. Your views about the TEA Party and conservative radio shows, was just too much to go unchallenged.

I’m a 70 year old veteran who’s more concerned today, about this country and its future for my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren than I’ve ever been.

Your assignment of ‘blame’ for the divisive state of D.C. to the TEA Party and conservatives like Rush Limbaugh is shameful and just wrong. If you absolutely feel the need to publically assign blame, then you really need to put the blame where in belongs – Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and their minions. Hopefully, General, you’re wise enough to know that ‘divisiveness’ is central to the Democrat strategy to create lot’s of dissention given that their governing mistakes leave them with no clear path for Obama’s reelection.

If you were man enough to put that message out - to the media - then maybe the tone in D.C. would start to change for the better. But…even with that, I doubt it would change.

General Powell, just because you’re a black man, you do not have some God given right to be an ignorant, arrogant fool as exampled by your racist support of an unknown, and now proven incompetent, Obama in 2008 and now…your attack on the TEA Party and loud conservative voices.

In short, General, it’s time for you wise up, show some character, and assign blame where it’s deserved or…just SHUT UP!
