Conservatives should think twice about Newt
Washington Examiner ^ | 112911 | Editorial

Newt Gingrich's surge to the top of the Republican presidential field has some conservatives imagining the former House Speaker as the anti-Romney. Gingrich is encouraging such a view with his claim that he is "certainly more conservative" than the former Massachusetts governor. The Manchester (N.H.) Union-Leader's endorsement added to the perception of a growing "newt-mentum" to anoint Gingrich as the preferred conservative in the Republican presidential field. But there are substantial reasons why thoughtful conservatives should think very carefully before jumping on this bandwagon.

There are, for example, gaping holes in Gingrich's conservative credentials. As the American Spectator's David Catron pointed out Monday, Gingrich has long been a fan of Dr. Donald Berwick. Berwick just resigned as President Obama's director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which oversees Obamacare. Obama put Berwick there because of his professed love for Britain's socialized medicine.

Here’s last night’s Hannity interview with Gingrich. Long on substance. Clear, ungarbled answers.

Watch and compare to other recent appearances by Romney and Cain. Romney’s frazzled responses to Baier. Cain’s endless platitudes at Hillsdale.

You’re with the wrong “Rick”, Windflier. Switch to Santorum!

You've got the wrong guy, Ted. I'm not with either Rick.

I look at the leading candidates, and it’s just like 2008 all over again. If Cain gets run out of the race (whom I’m supporting), Conservatives have no options amongst the media-anointed “leaders.”

He’d have to make himself viable. Santorum isn’t a serious candidate. Frankly, he’d still be in the Senate today had he not done such stupid things like endorsing Specter. He’d have become a folk hero if he stood up to Rove and the WH establishment by telling them to screw off when they “told” him to support Specter.

I have posted this on several threads and still no answers. What exactly has Newt done to prove to anyone he is going to lead as a conservative? His mouth says one thing his actions say quite the opposite. LOOK AT WHAT HE HAS DONE AND NOT WHAT HE SAYS. Newt abandoned the Conservatives at a critical time. So what office has he held since then to show anyone he is anything but a mouth running elitist stooge? Any Answers?

After his stunt as a congressman and speaker which he abandoned under shame one should expect him too at least held another office like governor too prove himself worthy again. Newt is not who people think he is. He is not a Conservative by any definition. He's a LIBERAL who can if needed talk Conservative so put the media Kool Aide down.

Perry isn’t going to remain trailing for very much longer. He’s just moving at his speed, not the LSM’s.

Perry supporters have been saying that he's making a comeback.

For two months now.

Getting flustered in a debate and looking to Ron Paul for help, forgetting something as simple as the voting age, having his wife tell us that Republicans and Democrats don't like him because he's a Christian. Fighting Ron Paul for 4th place and then starting to lose.

Rasmussen having him tied for 5th place at 4% with Bachmann and Santorum when a month ago he was at 8% and beating Ron Paul for 4th place.

These are not the signs of a comeback.

In fact, if more Cain supporters leave Cain for Bachmann and Santorum, Perry could be fighting with Huntsman at the very bottom.

These are the reasons why I don't get obsessed with candidates in primaries. I pick 3-4 and then see how things play out.
