Cain to End Candidacy Tomorrow? (Major Announcement tomorrow.)
Big Government ^

Posted on 12/02/2011 11:35:32 AM PST by sunmars

Embattled presidential candidate Herman Cain is inviting his top supporters and donors to Atlanta on Saturday for a meeting in which he will give them advance word of whether he intends to continue his campaign, sources close to the campaign said Friday.

One supporter who has been summoned to the private session said he believes that Cain is likely to announce he is ending his candidacy.

Another who has been invited to the morning meeting says attendees have been told he has made no decision, but wanted to meet with some of the supporters to express his gratitude.

Several sources indicated that Cain is likely to announce his plans publicly at a news conference after the meeting. Cain had already scheduled an event on Saturday — the grand opening of his national headquarters in his hometown of Atlanta, as well as the announcement of his campaign’s freshly minted senior leadership team for the state of Georgia.

It’s probably been done, but I’m seeing this cartoon with Obama standing in the middle of a desolate, scorched-earth landscape saying- “I’m here for the debate,” surrounded by MSM-types holding flamethrowers...

I would entertain Santorum as the nominee I do like his track record and against all the remaining GOP victims if Cain does bail would prolly go that route.

If he could find traction, however, he’s been stuck at the rear like Paul.

When Reagan was POTUS, the quality of him was very high but also he was not a “professional politician” ! The quality of professional politicians really sucks !”

Some of your facts are true, but you're not accurate in your main point.

Ronald Reagan was an experienced professional politician. He began his career elsewhere, but he moved into politics by the 1950s and spent many years in the political world before being elected president.

Ronald Reagan was governor of one of our largest states — I don't remember whether California at the time he was governor was still behind or ahead of New York, but it certainly wasn't a small state. Other than Rick Perry and George W. Bush, I don't think we've had a Republican presidential candidate with that level of large-state executive experience in the last three decades, and on the Democratic side, I can't think of anyone besides Mario Cuomo of New York.

Even before being elected governor, Reagan had a long and mostly successful track record of active political work. Even before being elected governor, he took an aggressive part in numerous elections. Also, we shouldn't forget his years of anti-Communist activism that included his leadership of the Screen Actors Guild to help root Communists out of the entertainment business. (Too bad that didn't succeed long-term.)

Reagan is not an example of someone being elected who was not a professional politician. He is an example of someone who was successful in one profession, changed professions, did what he needed to get experience, and was eventually elected president after serving in lower office.

Time in the chair makes a difference. Look at President Barack Obama — his main problem is his bad ideas, but fortunately for us, he also has a basic lack of experience that is making harder for him to govern.

The thing that gets me...what I can't fathom...is how these guys think that they can escape any close scrutiny when they decide to step into the political limelight.
Here's a little lesson for those conservative individuals who are contemplating running for office.....purge your hard drives,double-check past friends,neighbors,co-workers and lovers, make sure your spouse isn't fooling around and make sure your financial dealings are all on the up-and-up.
If you're not squeaky-clean or you can't readily produce irrefutable evidence that you're innocent of any wrongdoing, don't bother running. You make yourself look bad, cause a lot of frustration, confusion and dissention amid your supporters (or those who might want to support you),and it's a huge distraction in general.

I offered a simple observation. You obviously have a chip on your shoulder.

Your simple observation being that the MSM took Cain down because he was black.

I have no "chip on my shoulder." I'm just stating the obvious that if he steps down it will NOT be because of his race or the MSM, it will because of his own poor judgement.

I truly like Herman Cain as a person, but, not sure he’s ready for the presidency. Whether this latest escapade is true or not, it certainly shows poor judgment on his part. Meaning, he didn’t tell his wife. That sort of speaks cover up to me. And, if he gave money to help out a male friend (who he didn’t tell his wife) where is this male friend, and why hasn’t he come forward to exonerate Herman’s charitable gifts? What he wrote in that woman’s book bothers me somewhat too - “Friends are forever - everything else is a bonus.” Just what is that supposed to mean? He could’ve left off the last line and it would’ve been completely innocent.

And, he told Sean Hannity he didn’t want to play detective. Say what? If he wants to clear his name and reputation, then play detective - he must. I certainly would. But, to hide this from his wife just doesn’t pass the smell test. Also, the statement by his attorney about 2 consenting adults?? What the he** was that all about?

If he hides these kinds of things from his wife, would he give our U.S. money away and not tell the American people? I know that’s probably a bad analogy, but, just saying..........

I like Rick Santorum, but, he just isn’t gaining traction with the public for some reason. Howebeit, any of these candidates would be superior to zero. Unfortunately, some will stay home and not vote if their candidate of choice isn’t the nominee, thereby, ensuring the reelection for another 4 years of misery under this regime. What a sad field we have to choose from this election year.

I wish Sarah would’ve thrown her hat in the ring. Sure, the media has done everything to destroy this woman, and, sadly, even some on here have spewed the liberal talking points, but, I think she’d be a great president.

It feels awful.

But at least one person seems to be enjoying it, Mr. AIT.

By the way, I was extremely gracious to all the people on the Cain thread as they had to accept the loss of their candidate.

You might think about trying that some time (being gracious)

I agree with you on many of your points. It is over, and it is sad for many. In all of this, I feel bad for the family. The first few incidents of harassment were questionable in my mind, since so many women will use the harassment laws to make money. Even though I did not support Cain, I felt he was right to go on.

Apparently, his wife truly loves him to stand on that platform behind him today. I don't think I could show that much grace. He should go and take care of his family first. I was a little annoyed, when he tried to put his own failure on the MSM shoulders. Like you said, he had no intention of proving the accusation wrong and his lawyer's statement did the situation no justice.

IMHO, he should of flown home when he got wind of any of this story coming out. He could have owned up to it and gone on like Clinton. However, Monday morning quarterbacking is easy. Doesn't matter now, he needs to go take care of his wife and family.

> I heard a woman narrating a conservative children’s book the other day — turns out it was Callista Gingrich. She sounded very thoughtful and intelligent. She also espouses conservativsm right alongside Newt — and is very well spoken. We really know nothing about her yet ...try not to judge someone soley by their hair, please.

Oh indeed? How conservative is a woman who knowingly banged a married man (old enough to be her father) for years? Sickening. Especially nauseating is that she is reading to kids??? I wouldn’t let her near kids of any age.

Herman Cain announced Saturday that he is suspending his campaign for president, telling a crowd of supporters in his home state that the allegations of sexual harassment and infidelity had become too big a burden on his family..

Didn’t take much to make him quit.

Newt hasn’t had a problem responding so I didn’t laugh when his earlier campaign staff bailed. He was never ignored even back months ago. If a candidate can’t get traction then someone within his campaign has to take charge, garner donations, and guide the campaign to a place that works. If that fails then the campaign is inept. It’s a simple term that describes all the campaigns that are not getting anywhere, whether a 20% Romney or a 5% Santorum.

what I can't fathom...is how these guys think that they can escape any close scrutiny when they decide to step into the political limelight.

Because 'Power" brings with a it strong false sense of being untouchable to the average perils of the man on the street.

Additionally "confidence" is one thing..."arrogance" another. Being humble with power and money is a difficult walk to walk.....this too gives a "false" sense of being "untouchable".

Many in 'positions' of power fall to pride & arrogance, when power is at it's peak. Cain also needed to identify that when it came...unfortunately he didn't and we saw that in how he handled these situations.

Oh, please Cain was never anything but a symptom of conservative desperation. Just another Alan Keyes, Fred Thompson, Huckabee, Duncan Hunter. Except he was even MORE of an amateur and it showed.

He was not feared by any of our enemies.

There is no one capable of satisfying the perpetually pissed off. No one even remotely conservative enough. Your howling in the wilderness affects only wolves and is highly encouraged by the Left. Keep cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Your screen name is apt.

1. I’m not perpetually pissed off.

2. There are at least four people I would vote for who I believe will put the country first: Cain, Palin, Bachmann and Santorum.

3. All the other Pubbie candidates are not even a smidgeon conservative. They try to make us believe they are with words, but their past history—that is what they’ve actually done—lends the lie to their act.

I will not for a RINO under any curcumstance. That vote will only begat more RINOs. RINOs asre controlled by demrat party Marxists. Therefore as vote for a RINO is a vote for a demrat.

You seem to think voting for a label (Republican) is more important than voting principle. Been there done that. Never again.

It is my core belief that neither Gingrich, Romney or Perry have any core beliefs beyond their unquenchable need to feed at the public trough.
