When Perrywinkles throw up what Gingrich did in decades past, it is only fair to note that Perry was a member of the official abortion party until 1989. He was an official abortion lover for 16 years (about 20 million abortions). But hey - its in the past. That was when Newt was voting for Reagan’s historic tax cuts.

Hah!

I grant all of Newt’s obvious virtues. His soaring rhetoric was instrumental in getting a Republican house in ‘95.

But only two years later, he’d squandered the victory because he couldn’t work successfully with his party, because he was disorganized and according to Tom Delay he knew nothing about running meetings and driving an agenda.

He’ll have a hundred good ideas and only see 5 through.

He won’t be the best president we could get but he will be better than Obama and he can probably win.

We may have to settle for that.

Interesting take. All I can say is that this has been an interesting and somewhat frustrating election cycle so far and we have a long way to go before the final choice is made. May the best person win....and may it NOT be Paul or Romney! :)

(Sorry -bots...those two creep me out.)

Not YOU, Caww. :)

Obama intends to make anyone who is a frontrunner look like they are for the rich and he is for the poor. I do believe Newt will be able to point out that the food stamp president who allowed GE to pay no taxes is not truly for the poor people.

Read my lips. “That bill passed almost unanimously, it was unvetoable”

The K-12 thing is a federal law.
That is what prompted the Texas legislature to act.

You can try to remain stupid or you can get with the facts.
I suppose you have no gripe about Newts amnesty?

I’m missing exactly why this is important to you, potlatch. It strikes me more as something Dems, Politico an CBS (your sources) would obsess over, not a conservative.

Have you ever read a Congressional financial disclosure report? The report Calista Gingrich had to file in 2007 as a Capitol employee has their assets then in the “$1-2.5M” range. The debt to Tiffany was in the $250-500K range.” Those are pretty big ‘ranges.’ For all we know, he got a substantial book advance in 2007 and charged some nice pieces of jewelry for his wife.

If the debt was outstanding for any period of time, it’d be in the MSM daily, on page one. How lovely it would be if only Newt’s 2007 purchases and bills from Tiffany were all we had to worry about!

Great post altura. You hit the nail on the head. What's with the deification of candidates.

I like Perry, but I don't love the guy. I'm quite aware that he can let me down and that I may very well be wrong that he's the best candidate.

What I don't get is why people hate him.

You’ve made two consecutive posts full of hate and lies.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

We are trying to discuss the pros and cons of our candidates in a reasonable, truthful way.

You add nothing to the discussion.

Sorry, I’ve spent the day with at the Texas Medical Association’s Advocacy conference, where the semi- and real liberal lobbyists and docs tell us what we can have from the Legislature. I get nerdy and too talkative after reigning myself in all day. I’m better after a day with Republican women, wearing my hat and tea party pin, applauding true conservatives.

That is a question I’ve asked myself so many times.

To Texans there is nothing to hate about Rick Perry. Of course, he’s done some things we didn’t agree with during the past 11 years as governor, but, on the whole, he’s been a staunch conservative, a good governor, and in spite of being burdened with an influx of illegals has kept Texas in good financial shape.

That influx of illegals, by the way, is not Perry’s fault but the fault of a federal government which just didn’t care for years and didn’t care at all after Obama came in.

But, like you, I’m puzzled at the vitriol that some here feel for the man. Even Romney is not attacked with the vehemence that some people show to him.

I know Cain did not like him but surely that doesn’t account for it (or maybe it does)

Read all the way to the end of the sentence. Then you get to the punchline: Perry wants illegals to stay in Texas and get subsidized college tuition.

Perry is bad news and single digits (oops).

Totally a nut job. Of all the things to say about Perry, to say that he is not passionately pro-life is one of the more ridiculous.

Newt has a conservative heart and mind, but he knows that to get things done you have to communicate effectively with others whose support you MUST garner - and that means you have to “appease” them (in a way).... by showing you understand the rationale of their concerns and ideas.

Exactly. I have found Freepers can easily jump the gun when any candidate appears to move out of a stoic position...their pants get in a wad and there is little wait and see what's up about it.

All anyone has to do is watch Newt maneuver thru this primary and how he does it.....He snatched the control of the debates right out of the medias hands...they bellyached about it and he just smiled and went ahead to have the great meeting with Cain in full view of the audience...and look how the conservatives realize these debates must be from them....there's talking corners everywhere...the Huck had his tonight... and even Trumps doing it...this is simply taking things out of the media hands. Newt started it!

Additionally by refusing to talk down about our candidates he encouraged and stood up for each one in these debates when they media tried to get them to "fight" against each other. Newt wasn't about to play their game...and didn't. He focused on Obama and tried to "teach" the candidates that this is what they must do now...and he's right.

He's lead them all to realize each candidate has to be heard for what he stands for and allowed to do so...and trust the public can and will choose who they want accordingly...without the bickering and media fed fights.

So what has he done...he's created a huge following now because even in the debates themselves he's showing what he can do....and has already accomplished his agenda to turn the debates to what they need to be focused on....the candidates and their talking points...and they are talking now.

This is only going to get better.....and Newt's heading it all....He's not about to let the media steal this election from the people.....He met with Trump...then the other candidates...and they are all on board to take this election to the people now. That's leadership...right from the get go and Newt's at the helm of this!
