A RINO is a Republican in Name Only.. a label that certainly doesn’t apply to Newt. Republican and conservative are not the same thing either. One could measure a Republican by the strength of their opposition to Democrats, and that makes Newt a very potent Republican indeed.

You bet!

If he gets in, I plan to ride his tail, though. I expect him to be a anti-leftist Reagan conservative and avoid all couches with ugly ladies sitting on them. :)

We need to beat Obama.

Women won’t vote for Newt when they learn about his betrayal of his wives and taking up with mistresses.

Newt can talk conservative because he is smart, but he is a total Washington insider and made millions while this country went bankrupt.

He supported an individual mandate.

Newt as GOP nominee means Obama’s second term and the death of what remains of our Republic.

NO way I can vote for Newt is the GOP race as is effectively a vote for Obama.

It’s a shame that this is the best the ‘party’ has to offer .. or will allow.

Maybe changing his hair color to Reagan brown would bring more folks over to him.

But who would want the job as the Captain of the Titanic?

NewT certainly has the hair for it tho. I’m sure Calista would be a great set of eyes in the crows-nest too.. able to spot ice and diamonds from miles away.

Giddyup!

After twice burned, read your thoughts and remembered words of Who you Gonna Call. Great argument for support of Newt. Thanks Jim.

Owing Tiffany’s hundreds of thousands of dollars for 2d mistress turned 3d wife Callista is not going to endear Newt to the Reagan Democrats, to independents or women in general. Newt may get 45% of the vote if he is lucky. Certain states we need will definitely be lost.

Newt = Obama’s 2d term

George Washington would say,

I am again called upon by the voice of my country to execute the functions of its Chief Magistrate. When the occasion proper for it shall arrive, I shall endeavor to express the high sense I entertain of this distinguished honor, and of the confidence which has been reposed in me by the people of united America.

Previous to the execution of any official act of the President the Constitution requires an oath of office. This oath I am now about to take, and in your presence: That if it shall be found during my administration of the Government I have in any instance violated willingly or knowingly the injunctions thereof, I may (besides incurring constitutional punishment) be subject to the upbraidings of all who are now witnesses of the present solemn ceremony.";)

While he’s not my first choice (Palin) or even my second (Cain), I will vote for the Newt in a heartbeat over RINO Romney.

I say Newt is one of the people who has crafted Washington DC and is one of the reasons it is what it is today.

I worked in the automotive field for a while and Newt reminds me of one automotive term “RE-TREAD”

I want to be lead BY EXAMPLE!

Gingrich is for cap and trade.

Gingrich voted to permit the Federal Reserve to purchase Treasury Debt, thereby allowing monetization of all fiscal deficits through inflation.

Gingrich was one of the few who voted against the 1984 bill requiring the President and Congress to submit a balanced budget.

If anything, all this experience running something that is massively in debt makes him better suited to serve as our chief executive.

If Newt Gingrich can wangle his way out of his campaign’s financial hole, then he will have demonstrated once and for all that he is the man America needs.

And it’s quite an impressive hole. He owes $451,946 to something called Moby Dick Airways, apparently a group of specialists in flying great white whales from place to place. No, wait, I’m sorry, they charter private flights for Republican political figures.

He also owes five figures to himself for travel expenses, which is in addition to the $42,000 he already paid himself for an address book and possibly maybe did not quite remember to tell the FEC about.

THAT IS NOT LEADING BY EXAMPLE!!

NO NEWT IS GOOD NEWT!!

Newt is preferable to Romney. I’m not sure there are people here anyway who actually think differently.

A well-known, but not so popular around here commentator said it best about Newt — when will his own worst enemy take him out? His own worst enemy is Newt himself. The fear is that he’ll stay focused through the nomination, and then he’ll be “Newt” again and blow the election.

But if nobody else is going to gain traction, what else can we do? We aren’t going to sit home.

Good commentary, Jim. I have been saying much the same thing about Newt. Any objective look at his record of real conservative accomplishments as Speaker put's the lie to the "RINO" claim--of course, of late the word RINO has been thrown around so much on this forum as to have become meaningless.

As far as I can tell these days, "RINO" means "someone I don't like" or "someone I don't agree with on 1 or 2 issues."

I too came to Newt in a round about way Bachmann=>Cain=>Perry=>Newt, as the flaws of each one became inescapable. I would still vote for Perry like a shot, but I doubt he can rebound and I am not certain that Newt isn't the better choice anyway.

Thanks for posting this. Maybe it will give the Newt-bashers a moment of pause to see your name on it.

Putting the brakes on Obama should be first and foremost priorty.

Can you imagine an Obama who doesn’t need to ‘moderate’ himself to be re-elected again? No more campaigns to run?

Can you imagine an Obama who feels the American public gave him a mandate and a blank check to go full speed with his dreams?

Can you imagine an Obama who knows he has just four more years to fundamentally change the world?

Can you imagine more czars and more executive orders?

Can you imagine Obama having four years of appointing lifetime positions of federal judges all over the country?

Can you imagine an election where the Democrats turn out more voters, thus possibly giving them back all three branches of government?

We have to hit the breaks. Even if all we are doing is putting a temporary rock under the tire to slow us down as we approach the cliff, it is better than pushing the accelerator down.

Even a hold your nose candidate like Newt will want to be re-elected so his first four years, he will pander to those who elected him.

I'm not sure what I think of Newt, and since I live in PA with its late primary, I don't think my vote will affect who will be the candidate. In 2008, the GOP was already wrapped up by the time the primaries got here. I doubt if it will be any different this time.

That being said, if Newt is the candidate, I will vote for him over Obama. If Romney is the candidate, America is screwed.

I’m with you Jim! The problem some Conservatives have is that they have little or no pragmatism. They are looking for a purist solution that’s not coming, at least in this upcoming election. On balance, Newt has most of the attributes that make for a good leader. I don’t care for his personal life, but then we’re not electing a Pope, just a president. Like you I can’t stomach Romney. He’s the GOP Leadership’s “It’s My Turn Candidate!” He has demonstrated to my satisfaction that he’s willing to say whatever he thinks will get him elected. He’s a Chameleon! NO THANKS! Obama must go. Like you, I could support most any of the other GOP hopefuls, but not Romney.

Anyone but Romney. He's about as useless as a third, well, you know the saying....

We don't need to move backwards with Romney and his ilk.
