DES MOINES – Presidential contender Rick Perry said there are eight Supreme Court justices, not nine, and flubbed Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s (SOHN’-ya soh-toh-my-YOR’) name in an editorial board meeting at The Des Moines Register.

Perry met with the board Friday. He struggled for six seconds to come up with Sotomayor’s name, then initially called the justice “Montemayor.” A member of the newspaper’s editorial board helped him out with the correct name.

Agree...but I DO think of a Chief Justice as set apart from the eight justices. I didn’t hear the remark or completely read the faux pas, but wouldn’t suspect that he’d be thinking as I do.

so what, everyone speaking on a regular basis to the public will have goofs. His misstatements are but a fraction of Obama’s.

Michele Bachmann is smarter than Rick Perry, if one counts gaffes as a measure of intelligence.

Agreed. This isn’t a job at Baskin Robbins, it’s one thing to misspeak, and to clarify yourself as soon as you do. It’s another thing to be either be unable to remember simple facts, over and over and over again, or to simply not care what you’re saying in the first place.

I once had a kid apply to a job at a business I ran. He kept coming at hours that I wasn’t there, and after the 3rd time of doing so, he left a note. The note was horrific to read as virtually everything was misspelled. I usually give a few errors or homonyms a pass, because I have formal education in 7 languages, and somewhat know 4 others in varying degrees through business, etc., and I know just how hard it can be to keep words straight or not. Not everyone is able to master/utilize languages as well as others.

However, when I spoke to him, I told him “You know, it was a little difficult to read the message you left, maybe you could work on that when you’re asking for a job.” His response was “So? Who really cares about spelling anyway? You know what I’m trying to say so it doesn’t matter how it’s spelled.” I had a problem with that attitude.

There is a difference between making error—that we all do—and in making them and acknowledging when you are incorrect. We have a real problem in our “leaders” today in that they think they know everything and are from whence all good comes. Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and [BARF] Jon Huntsman ALL claim that any and all good things in their states burst forth from their pompous back sides. There is no credit to the people who they robbed from and hindered in their tenures. Their attitude is one of: “I can just make things up, and people should either bow straightway, or at least know what’s going on in my perfect mind.”

They’re not trying to communicate, they’re trying to talk down to convince us how smart they are, and that it’s more intelligent than the rest of us. Well they may be more intelligent than a portion of the U.S., but it’s not the portion that’s going to vote for them. Especially not vote for them due to their awesome (barf) speaking skills. It’s the portion who will vote for whoever, in plain terms, promises them the most free stuff. Been there, done that, we don’t need any more of it.

I am the ultimate authority on how I am supposed to pronounce “Sotomayor”.

It is pronounced... “Soda-mayor”. (Mayor, as in the elected head of a city)

Anyone else is pronouncing it wrong, including the Sodamayor herself.

:-P

‘montemayor’ is more accurate

she wouldn’t have the position if ‘she’ were any other race

The governor of Texas has very limited power. That’s how he’s stayed in office so long. He’s an Aggie, for God’s sake.

Well Rick Perry was Governor of Texas for 11 years and Lt. Governor before that. He obviously had at least as much to do with the economy as say..Terry Bradshaw did with winning 4 Superbowls. I mean he was a dumbass right? Except he called his own plays and has 4 rings.

By the way, you forgot Newt Gingrich who is practically know for his arrogance.

Do expect to win the election by claiming he balanced the budget? Do you really think the left or even the voting public doesn't give Clinton that credit?

Rick Perry is the best candidate going whether you want Newt "I cheated on my first wife to get to my second wife and cheated on her with your current first lady" Gingrich.

Do you really think that guy can win? It's absurd.

I will suggest if Perry dropped out, Gingrich would drop in the polls, drop out of the race and leave us with Mitt.

I’m holding his Columbia transcript in my hand and it shows that he was expelled after one year for failing to attend any of the classes he signed up for.

That, and his LSAT scores where only 69.

:-)

The MSM would spin it anyway. If Perry had said 9 they would have laughed and said "oopps" you are wrong there are only 8.

I do not blame him for forgetting that one, I have been trying to do the same.
