Ann Coulter: NEWT: SPEAK BOMBASTICALLY AND CARRY A TINY STICK (Romney: STUCK)

NEWT: SPEAK BOMBASTICALLY AND CARRY A TINY STICK

December 14, 2011

Fellow right-wingers: Is our objective to taunt Obama by accusing him of "Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior," of being "authentically dishonest" and a "wonderful con" -- and then lose the election -- or is it to defeat Obama, repeal Obamacare, secure the borders, enforce e-verify, reform entitlement programs, reduce the size of government and save the country?

If all you want is to lob rhetorical bombs at Obama and then lose, Newt Gingrich -- like recent favorite Donald Trump -- is your candidate. But if you want to save the country, Newt's not your guy.

Gingrich makes plenty of bombastic statements, but these never seem to translate into actual policy changes.

After becoming the first Republican speaker of the House in nearly half a century, for example, Newt promptly proposed orphanages and janitorial jobs for children on welfare.

It was true that welfare had destroyed generations of families shorn of the work ethic and led to soaring illegitimacy rates, child abuse and neglect. Maybe orphanages and child labor would have been better.

But we didn't get any orphanages. We didn't get jobs for children in families where no one works.

What we got was the cartoonish image of Republicans as hard-hearted brutes who hated poor kids.

Ronald Reagan was also accused of waging a war on the poor. But that was on account of his implementing historic tax cuts that produced not only record revenues for the government, but decades of prosperity for the entire nation.

With Newt, you get all the heat, blowback and acrimony, but you don't get the policy changes.

To the contrary, his pointless bloviating about orphanages and child janitors harmed the chances for welfare reform, despite the fact that the American people, the Republican Congress and the Democratic president (publicly, at least), supported it.

Indeed, when it came time to make vital changes to welfare policy, such as work requirements and anti-illegitimacy provisions, Gingrich tried to scuttle them. He denounced such provisions -- the very heart of welfare reform -- as, yes, "social engineering of the right" (e.g., Republican Governors Conference, Williamsburg, Va., Nov. 22, 1994).

The guy who wanted orphanages for children on welfare suddenly called work requirements for adults on welfare right-wing "social engineering."

Gingrich went on to lose almost every negotiation with Bill Clinton -- and that was with solid Republican majorities in both the House and Senate. His repeated capitulation to Clinton led former Vice President Dan Quayle to remark that the Republican "Contract With America" had become the "Contract With Clinton." (Not to be confused with Newt's book, "Contract With the Earth.")

Perfectly good policies are constantly being undermined by Newt's crazy statements -- such as his explanation that women couldn't be in combat because they get infections, whereas men "are basically little piglets," who are "biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes."

Hunt giraffes?

With Gingrich we get the worse of all worlds. He talks abrasively -- offending moderates and galvanizing liberals -- but then carries a teeny, tiny stick.

We want someone who will talk softly and unthreateningly while implementing vital policy changes. Even when Gingrich doesn't completely back off conservative positions, his nutty rhetoric undermines the ability of Republicans to get anything done.

Coulter isn’t running for president; Newt is. Bombastic doesn’t work except for Democrats. He can’t keep control of his mouth and his marital history suggests that isn’t the only thing he can’t keep control of.

I remember quite well when he was Speaker. He was one of the most unpopular political figures in America. He was on the cover of Time or Newsweek as the “Grinch who Stole Christmas.” He lost the public opinion war with Clinton during the government shutdown.

She’s right. He’s an unpleasant, self-important, bombastic windbag. Now that he’s facing some criticism, the nasty Newt is emerging. Expect to see more of it. That kind of personality doesn’t win the White House.

Good try.

It's more likely you are homosexual than Coulter is.

It's a side effect of CES.

I notice you did not deny it.

Many doors swing both ways (pun attended), closet ones too.

And what is with this “gay” stuff?

Calling homosexuals gay is supporting their sick agenda.

So you and Coulter should get along swimmingly.

Oh and I am a happy, well adjusted person---and old enough that that made me a gay person.

Now that they have perverted that word, I cannot be a gay person anymore without people thinking I am a prevert.

Well then I guess she "lost" you back in 2006 when she said he's my favorite. It's somebody out of the blue.

If she just "lost" you this time she came out for Romney, perhaps you should read Free Republic more...

I won’t argue over your emphasis on “the” over “a”. It’s ok with me.

I am no longer sure she is a believer in “the” God of salvation through Jesus.

You make some good points that’s for sure.

My previous comment to you was because I liked your “out there” sense of humor...made me chuckle!

I agree. Nobody is offering anything to dispute the facts she is presenting. If Gingrich has described himself as the “definer of civilization, teacher of the rules of civilization, arouser of those who fan civilization, organizer of the pro-civilization activists, leader (possibly) of the civilizing forces,” as she claims, he’s got a screw loose. He’s already been described by a commentator on a PBS discussion show as “emotionally unstable.” I’d say he’s also a megalomaniac. He seems to lack a sense of humor and he takes himself and his ideas far too seriously.

It’s unfortunate that FreeRepublic has become a Gingrich echo chamber.

You are Wrong. Americans love to forgive a genuine contrite person acknowledging their past indiscretions as Newt has. He is almost 70 years old and still sharp as a tack. Sure he's made personal mistakes... and he's acknowledged his mistakes and sought forgiveness. If you don't think the American people will embrace his pursuit of public forgiveness, you are mistaken.

Newt has a brilliant mind, and once again you are wrong to suggest he doesn't have control over his mouth...Of course he has control over his mouth. Newt doesn't really need a Karl Rove type of strategist because he out strategies everyone in the room... with humility.

Your suggestion that the negative side of Newt is emerging, along with Coulter is a LIE. Expect to see more of it? Do you even understand who Newt is? Newt is mature and politically savvy. Libs continue to try and paint Newt has some hot head, yet they forget he was never a hot head. A productive citizen yes, but never a hot head. As much as libs wish he was a hot head, he continues to gain support because he is the smartest and most articulate guy in the room and Ann Coulter needs to shut it.

I remember him well also. He is the Algore of the right. Ann's criticism of him is spot on.

Thank you for the crib notes, katie. (I haven’t typed that *name* in a long time...)

It’s amazing how many Republicans voted against him instead of standing up and fighting for what was right.

In Ann's view, Mister Gingrich is not electable; while Mister Romney is electable.

To make Ann's point, from those moderates, indies, and even GOPers with whom I speak, Romney is more electable between he and Newt.

For all of Romney's flipping, Newt has done more so, and he's more easily demonized.

I'll vote for neither in the primary (likely Santorum); and I'll vote for whomever wins the nomination.

I worry that Newt will win the nomination, and hand Obama a victory (and a country).

Lots here disagree, I respect that; perhaps you will respect my practical opinion as well.

Ann needs to Shut It.

Free Republic has been Anti-Romney for years. Ann is pro-Romney.

Her opinion belongs on Democratricunderground, not Free Republic.

Think about it, Romney will NEVER be supported by Conservatives, the Tea Party or Free Republic. In the next few months, Mitt will be giving his concession, withdrawal speech.

Where does that leave Ann? Is she going to support Ron Paul? Is she going to continue to bash Newt Gingrich more than she bashes Barack Obama?

What does that tell you? She needs to exit stage left. Romney will NEVER be the Republican nominee.... FACT.... yet Ann Coulter is going to get paid to bash our nominee Newt Gingrich on liberal talk shows. Ann is a snake for bashing a Conservative like Newt Gingrich and for supporting a low life like Romney. Again, Ann Coulter is actually getting paid to bash Newt Gingrich. Many talk shows she appears on, she is getting compensated for. Ann is DISGUSTING and no conservative.

Look for Ann to go on all the Talk Shows to bash Gingrich, acting as IF Gingrich is just as bad as Obama. She is a nutcase. Free Republic is Anti Mitt Romney and Ann is a Mess which is why she needs to SHUT IT.

Well it really between her and God.

It’s not for us to judge whether someone has salvation.

David, Saul, Paul, Job. I’m sure a lot of people questioned their relationship with God.
