Does the active duty and Air National Guard/reserve screen officers for mental defect?

I was just getting my hair cut at the Lackland AFB (now something called a joint base) when this guy in a leather flight jacket . . . probably from the National Guard or the Air Force reserves next door . . . challenges his femsle barber . . . "Do you smoke?"

This pissy officer explains, barbers smoke and he can't stand the smell of tobacco smoke on their breath as they cut his hair.

But, he can smell and enjoy the scent of JP-4.

This flying officer needs to be identified and removed from flying status . . . or removed from training and discharged.

Lance Peter Sijan (Serbian: Лазар Шијан/Lazar Šijan (April 13, 1942 – January 22, 1968)...

I am not sure just why you addressed this to me, but I will answer it.

It so happens I knew Lance Sijan quite well, those many years ago. He was a man of inner strength and character anybody would be proud to call a friend. What he did is no surprise to me or others who knew him. It was a great loss to all when he was shot down, captured, and ultimately died of abuse and neglect in captivity.

Lance was a supremely decent, hardworking, tenacious, gutsy guy who simply didn't know the meaning of the word "quit". When his story eventually came out I doubt anybody who knew him could say anything other than, "Oh, yes, that's the Lance Sijan I knew!". He was a true American hero who not only embodied those characteristics we hold dear, but ultimately carried them out resulting in the loss of his young life.

America desperately needs more men just like him. They are still here, and we need them more than ever.

Hello again. I am sorry to explode your warped ideas. I am not gay & I am a female. If I were gay I surely would not be on FR. Now I don't know what your problem is & I don’t much care. You are were pure entertainment & a bunch of laughs for a few of us. You may think as you wish but I would suggest for your next rant you do learn to use the spell check, post in the proper place & learn some manners. A very Merry Christmas to you ! ( ps drinking & posting isn't a good idea)

PC@$ thank you for posting this information about Lance Sijan. I never knew his story until I read your post. When I did the math, it stunned me that he perished before his 26th birthday.

Gritty, thanks for giving us your first hand account of Lance.

Too often, these names become, at best, inscriptions on a piece of stone, with their deeds not known to us.

We were indeed blessed to have such a man serving our country. May America have many more—Lord knows we will need them, and sooner than we think.

Merry Christmas.

Yes they are screened. Not sure why you think not liking tobacco smoke breath is a mental defect though. Different people find different odors offensive. I would not have a stylist who wore perfume that bothered me either. I see no reason to be uncomfortable while I receive a service I am paying quite handsomely for.

Or do you oppose freedom of association?

Nope. Didn’t have access to ice cream. Had fish jerky, though.

This is the stupidest thread I’ve seen in a dozen years here. I’m firmly anti smoking but I’m not going to take this stupid bait. Stupid.
