Jim Robinson: Taking stock of our dwindling conservative inventory
Jan 5, 2011 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/05/2012 11:23:02 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Tea party favorite and pro-life conservative Sarah Palin and her family were viciously attacked to the point she chose not to run.

Congressional Tea Party Caucus leader and constitutional pro-life conservative Michele Bachmann had early promise, but I guess came across as too "shrill" and consequently her numbers driven down to the point she exited.

Successful pro-life conservative Texas Governor Perry hit the race at the top but due to missteps and less than stellar debate performances soon fizzled and is now all but gone.

Pro-life conservative businessman Cain and his famous 9-9-9 plan had promise, but was driven out due to indefensible allegations.

Pro-life Reagan Revolution conservative Newt Gingrich reinvigorated his campaign and soared to the top of the national polls, but was unacceptable to the establishment and apparently also unacceptable to the "true conservatives" among us and his numbers are now plummeting

You'd think "unquestionably" pro-life, pro-family conservative Rick Santorum whose recent surge took him to a tie in Iowa and who's now surging in the national polls might be good enough to stand against Romney for the base, but looks like there are "true conservatives" now attacking HIM as not good enough.

Well, drive them all out and who's left?

Huntsman? Who? Moonbat Paul?

Ideas anyone? Should we all continue attacking the conservatives we don't like until we drive them all out?

Personally, I could easily have lived with Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Newt or Santorum and would be proud to enthusiastically support any of them, warts and all. Any one of them is infinitely better than Obama or Romney.

But if we don't land on one soon and raise him up over Romney, guess who we're going to be stuck with? And it ain't going to be pretty. And if abortionist/statist/progressive Romney (or moonbat Paul) is the one, might as well get used to four more years of Obama. I won't vote for or support either one of those two.

I'd suggest that we all stop trying to tear down the other conservative candidates in the race and instead concentrate on trying to build up our own personal favorites. Who knows? May even discover an acceptable conservative (if not a great conservative) in the bunch. We've never had a perfect conservative yet. Not even the magnificent Ronald Reagan. We and they all have warts.

But we do want to have a candidate with at least an actual CONSERVATIVE record and not an out and out liberal progressive RINO. So let's compare their records and their actual conservative accomplishments but not try to destroy them personally.

God bless and may the best CONSERVATIVE be our nominee.

I didn’t answer your question personally yet.

I have a huge problem supporting gingrich. I feel he is psychologically flawed, needy like Clinton and Obama. I feel people like that can be dangerous in power. Better a staid president than a half-cocked one with a big desire to be popular.

I was hoping for Palin. Felt let down by her stringing us along somewhat. Was a huge cain supporter. Felt let down that he wasn’t out in front of potential bimbo eruptions, that his wife wasn’t on board, etc.

After Cain I studied the rest of the field. I chose Santorum. I didn’t k ow if he had a snowball’s chance but. Thought i could vote FOR him, I could send money to him. I didn’t think he would burn me again. And now he has the Mo to be the Not Romney!

I’d love to see FReepers coalesce around Santorum. We’d be very happy and proud to have a conservative in the White House. But will Americans support anyone the media doesn’t want?

The media is more of an enemy to us than Obama. Because they can get themselves into the heads of most Americans. They shape the story and control the minds. They have all their Late Night and Comedy News Alinskys out on daily patrol. It takes a tough, well-informed mind to get past their controlling themes.

I could vote for Newt but I wouldn’t send him money. Love him in the debates but am scared of him in the White House.

I am hoping Santorum can take the anal probing.

I tell ya — if conservatives just quit their bitchin’ and organized ala Tea Party grass roots style, held the line and just DOGGED it against Romney ... the media/industrial/hollywood/rino complex would not be able to withstand the onslaught. It would be like a n early morning tsunami coming at them they never expected.

We have NO idea how much power we truly have — we don’t even bother sometimes to tap into it. The Tea Party was a start ...and look what they did in 2010!!

Dog Romney, push him out, and then take it to the Man.

That’s what I say anyway.

Agreed, but we had better settle on one of the 3 soon.
The longer the remaining votes get divided up by Perry, Santorum, Paul, and Gingrich, the more likely a lowly 25% of primary voters will make Romney the nominee.

At best Romney is a Clinton-like figure, totally dishonest, without convictions, will say anything to get elected, and will shift his positions to go wherever the polls go.

You can say that again. The man bears absolutely NO resemblance to a conservative (even a flawed one), and is only a Republican for reasons of political expedience. He doesn't have a core value anywhere in his body.

Mitt is a weather vave who will go whichever way the polls blow. He wouldn't make a good president even in a time of relative peace, security, and economic affluence - let alone in a dire time such as this.

Yaelle, are you watching the news this week? Our little Dreams of my Father psycho is out stomping on the Constitution as we speak. You worry about Newt? Really? With all that’s going on now?

Really — Newt spent lots of time as speaker and never once were the men with the white coats called in.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OK sorry

Rick has mentioned his grandfather during the debates...

as long as his father was already a US citizen BEFORE Rick was born

then hes eligible to be POTUS

Romneys Mexican born father George as far as I know never had any type of nationalization papers nor applied to become a US citizen BEFORE Willie Mitty was born..

Barry Dunham’s father Barak Obama remained a British subject as he was at the time of Barrys birth and never became an American...

Good luck Jim, but you’re talking to a lot of people that threw GWB away because he wasn’t conservative enough. Hated, even reviled him.

They will make sure that Santorum, Perry and Gingrich never get a fair chance here...for the same exact things they crucified Bush over. Namely illegal immigration, NCLB, earmarks and spending in general, support for TARP, and the Patriot Act. You know, just tag them as RINO.

Personally, I’d like to see FR push Santorum and Perry, but Santorum especially supported Bush, and Perry sounds and acts like him...in addition to having the same positions on a lot of matters like the border fencing.

Gingrich supported NCLB, TARP, and most of Bush’s other policies (still does).

I really mean it when I say good luck, I don’t want to endure another four years of Obamahell. I’m a small businessman and he’s killing me economically, not to mention what he’s doing to our politics, our constitution, and our defense.

If conservatives don’t get their stuff together, he’s going to be assured of a second term.

Oh, no, he's now just 8 points behind Romney NATIONWIDE! Santorum 2012. He's really passionate, committed, and articulate.

Friend, you may be over the moon about Santorum, but he hasn't closed the deal with most center-right voters across the country, and the nationwide polls consistently show it.

I've got nothing against him, but I don't think he's got high enough marks in all the vital departments to convince a plurality of voters to make him the nominee.

But I have no vote.

I really hope you get your Republic back Jim.

Whoever takes the oath on January 20. 2013 will confront MASSIVE and SYSTEMIC political problems, and will be master in name only of a Federal bureaucracy infested with Marxist-Leninists with civil service protection.

In other words, we need an ass-kicker with balls of steel, who can also get elected.

Like you, I've come to the same conclusion, and have realized that there's only one person left in the race who fits that bill. It's time to drop the Newtonium bomb on the left and the RINO establishment.

I did the math, and his mom (born 1918) would have been 40 when he was born in 1958. Hey, I’m Italian, too, and I like Santorum, that was just a flag that went up I thought I should mention.

I’m thinking Perry/Santorum with Newt in whatever post he wants.

I didn’t read the link myself. Perhaps I will, but it’s going to take a long and hard campaign to change the long-held view that Grant was a hard drinkin’ man.

For my part, I’ve never had a problem with that, one way or the other.

This infighting was designed and directed by the left. There has been multi millions spent to do what we’ve seen happening even at FR. I am a Perry supporter as you well know, and what I’ve seen taking place here at FR against Perry has driven me to more friendly places. Sorry to see it came to this, but the only true small government conservative in this race is Rick Perry. The others either have no executive experience and/or so called big government conservatives [you and I both know there is no such thing as a big government conservative]. As far as I’m concerned, Rick Perry is the only one to get behind.

Thats a very good flag

no argument there...

I just thought it was his grandfather who was from italy

and his Dad born here...

as long as both his parents were already nationalized US citizens BEFORE Rick was born

then hes eligible...
