Jim Robinson: Taking stock of our dwindling conservative inventory
Jan 5, 2011 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/05/2012 11:23:02 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Tea party favorite and pro-life conservative Sarah Palin and her family were viciously attacked to the point she chose not to run.

Congressional Tea Party Caucus leader and constitutional pro-life conservative Michele Bachmann had early promise, but I guess came across as too "shrill" and consequently her numbers driven down to the point she exited.

Successful pro-life conservative Texas Governor Perry hit the race at the top but due to missteps and less than stellar debate performances soon fizzled and is now all but gone.

Pro-life conservative businessman Cain and his famous 9-9-9 plan had promise, but was driven out due to indefensible allegations.

Pro-life Reagan Revolution conservative Newt Gingrich reinvigorated his campaign and soared to the top of the national polls, but was unacceptable to the establishment and apparently also unacceptable to the "true conservatives" among us and his numbers are now plummeting

You'd think "unquestionably" pro-life, pro-family conservative Rick Santorum whose recent surge took him to a tie in Iowa and who's now surging in the national polls might be good enough to stand against Romney for the base, but looks like there are "true conservatives" now attacking HIM as not good enough.

Well, drive them all out and who's left?

Huntsman? Who? Moonbat Paul?

Ideas anyone? Should we all continue attacking the conservatives we don't like until we drive them all out?

Personally, I could easily have lived with Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Newt or Santorum and would be proud to enthusiastically support any of them, warts and all. Any one of them is infinitely better than Obama or Romney.

But if we don't land on one soon and raise him up over Romney, guess who we're going to be stuck with? And it ain't going to be pretty. And if abortionist/statist/progressive Romney (or moonbat Paul) is the one, might as well get used to four more years of Obama. I won't vote for or support either one of those two.

I'd suggest that we all stop trying to tear down the other conservative candidates in the race and instead concentrate on trying to build up our own personal favorites. Who knows? May even discover an acceptable conservative (if not a great conservative) in the bunch. We've never had a perfect conservative yet. Not even the magnificent Ronald Reagan. We and they all have warts.

But we do want to have a candidate with at least an actual CONSERVATIVE record and not an out and out liberal progressive RINO. So let's compare their records and their actual conservative accomplishments but not try to destroy them personally.

God bless and may the best CONSERVATIVE be our nominee.

Earlier, a poster offered good insight “Who would you want fighting alongside you” or words to that effect.

If I had to choose which presidential candidate I'd rather have fighting alongside me, it would be Newt without question. Of them all, he's got the most fight and dogged tenacity in him. I'd also expect him to be the one to make a bold move against the enemy when we were under fire.

Romney's out, because he'd just run away or make a secret deal with the enemy.

Paul's out, because he'd probably steal my guns and give them to the enemy.

Rick Santorum would be welcome in my fox hole, because I know he'd fight with real heart, and wouldn't betray me.

Rick Perry would be a good squad mate because, even though he can't express his reasons for being there, at least he'd shoot the bastards when he saw the whites of their eyes.

The majority of the Paulbots will not be supporting the Republican nominee.

I think that is true. Only a few will vote for an R candidate. They think anyone who doesn't fawn over Paul is a globalist neocon warmongering meat puppet.

Jacob was a cheater, Peter had a temper, David had an affair, Noah got drunk, Jonah ran from God, Paul was a murderer, Gideon was insecure, Miriam was a gossiper, Martha was a worrier, Thomas was a doubter, Elijah was moody, Moses stuttered, Zaccheus was short, Abraham was old, Lazarus was dead.... God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the CALLED!
jus sayin.

I’ll take a progressive republican with a 90% + conservative House vote record if that’s the option.

In light of Jim’s post I find myself reassessing my ‘overall RP view. But while I’d take him aside me, I just can’t get by the leadership short of the Obama matchup.

Contrary to my adamant opposition I don’t ‘hate’ the man. I actually do like many of his positions. But the ones I don’t like, I REALLY don’t like.

Newt, It’s a trust thing with me...but his vote record is what it is and his couchfest with Nancy does not change it. He eas solid and I like what he says overall.

Newt is a non-starter. He is an admitted “progressive republican”. One who will govern in the cast of Wilson.

Newt has definitely gone off the reservation a few times in his career, and yes, he has pissed me off to no end with some of his more questionable moves, but "progressive Republican"? I don't think so.

I saw upthread that Newt once held a 100% rating with the ACU. It's pretty hard to get a rating like that, if you're a progressive politician.

I think you could have made that case stick years ago, but I'm convinced that the man has the capacity to learn and grow. I believe that he's done just that, in the last few years. One thing is for sure. He recognizes the basic ideals upon which this nation was founded, and knows how to craft his agenda to align with them.

He also has the fight to push for a return to those ideals, and seems determined to do so, dismantling the Socialist leviathan along the way. There's no doubt that he's the smartest of all our candidates, and that he has the ability and inclination to correctly gauge the mood and wants of the people at this time. He also understands that Obama and his agenda are killing this nation, and he's determined to stop it.

Add in the fact that he knows Washington inside and out, and you've got a winning combination.

And now for my second thought:

Newt Gingrich!

While I am not a Romney supporter, the idea that he and Obama are one in the same is ridiculous.

You ought to clinically examine Romney's actual record as Governor of Massachusetts, then make the comparison between him and Obama again.

Do that, and you'll probably join the chorus.

In my opinion Paul’s base is a lot closer to the Occupy folks than the Tea Party folks. In fact a lot of Paul’s base might be Occupy folks.

There was a time I WAS a Palin supporter! I gave up on her before she did what I thought she would do.

How fickle. I never gave up on Sarah, and still support her, because she's still the best representative of everything America was founded upon.

I don't know if she'll choose to serve in elective office again, but if she does make that choice, I'll be right there to back her up.

Gotta go with Gingrich at this point.
I was for Cain, then Palin, then Cain, now Gingrich.

Somebody whose intention is to shrink central government control.
Big centralized government has an oppressive stranglehold that is reflected in our economic condition! And that is only one symptom. If it does not reverse it's hold on us, there will be a breaking point.

Well, I’m no longer making my mind up, or studying the candidates. Vetting time is over for me, and I know who I can support, and who I can’t.

Anything more that I learn about the remaining candidates at this point is just gravy. I’ve heard and seen enough to make my choice.

I think people say that because the sheer thought that the GOP has it’s own obama in word and deed geared up to represent the right is a thought that is just to much to handle. But his record shows it’s true.

The GOP has abandoned us as a party. Now we need to either take it back or abandon it wholesale.
