What a difference a caucus makes. Rick Santorum who two months ago had one percent (1%) support among likely South Carolina Republican Primary voters now is running a close second there with 24% of the vote.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Palmetto State finds former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney still in the lead, earning 27% support from likely GOP Primary Voters, up from 23% in early November. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in third with 18% of the vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 11%.

Bringing up the rear are Texas Governor Rick Perry with five percent (5%) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at two percent (2%). Another two percent (2%) of these likely primary voters like some other candidate, and 11% remain undecided

I simply do not see how Mitt can get the nomination. He will not carry the South. Won’t happen.

You are correct, sir. I don't understand why that simple truth is so difficult for so many here to grasp.

“I agree with you that it was quite a feat to balance the budget, even though it did not bring down the National Debt.”

The National Debt is the accumulation of all annual budget deficits. If there is a budget surplus, which there was for several years the debt should decrease.

So, technically you are right that the National Debt did not decrease. But only because of interest payments.

So, to be technically correct, let’ say that under Speaker Gingrich and Kasich’s watch, there were surpluses and payments were made against the Principle of the National Debt. Again, a huge accomplishment.

" um... I hate to be the bearer of bad news.. but Santorum lost Iowa.

which means he hasn’t won squat either. '

I thought the Newt and Perry supporters were saying that Iowa didn't mean anything ? that is ? unless Newt or Perry was in the lead...
Newt and Perry also lost Iowa, so what's your point ?

So ? you want the one non- Romney conservative who is leading above all the rest to drop out so Romney won't win, but yet ? still clinging to hope that Perry or Newt will beat Romney... right, real smart.....
If Newt and Perry don't drop out, Romney WILL WIN....

You know...this is kind of getting ridiculous. It seems everyone has blamed EVERYBODY for being in this great conspiracy to get Romney nominated.

Demanding someone else to kill their campaign and their dream of being president because you THINK it might benefit your own selfish beliefs is just plain wrong. Just because they won’t end their campaigns does not mean they are in the tank for Romney. You really think that Gingrich wants Romney to win after what he did to him in Iowa with those SuperPAC ads? Give me a break!

If the only way Santorum can win is if everyone else quits...that’s an awfully bad way to pick a nominee. That tells you he’s no more stronger of a candidate than Perry or Gingrich.

It needs to be in the hands of the voters.

“Gingrich presided over the only balanced budgets in a long time...persuading Clinton to come along, a political fete rare in occurrence.

............................................................

Unfortunately, Newt chose to raid the projected $1.5 trillion dollar surplus in the Social Security Funds in 1998 to pay for tax cuts and balance the budget.

The rise of Santorum is the road to victory for Romney.

"It needs to be in the hands of the voters."

it would be nice if it was that way, but it sure doesnt look that way to me. And I'm not thinking conspiracy theory, just connecting the dots. Actually I got this idea from what Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin have been saying.I wouldnt have thought of it on my own

These political parties are experts at retaining and maintaining power. Gingrich knows where he's at on the Delegate Totem pole, so does Santorum.

Seems more and more like the popular vote is sort of like clapping from the audience and all we can do is pay for the ticket and watch the show

Not much good to vote when you dont have an acceptable choice

" To me, it's a no-brainer. Santorum 2012."

I totally agree ,

It will take some passion and Tea Party spirit to bring everyone out of their cable TV stupors and take it to the Republican party leaders with pitchforks.

let them know we wont stand for tyranny and virtual slavery to their political stupidity

Its not like I think they got together in a smoky backroom somewhere and sent gingrich out on a mission to run cover for romney, I think its more like Gingrich got handed a war chest and was more than eager to take the stage and go campaigning , what a dream come true for a politician to pass up. Gingrich knows the score , thats why he knows it wont really happen for him , but I sure see how it blocks a conservative from getting traction with the Gingo in there

Santorum or Gingrich are our two hopes for this nation's recovery and they are the only two who can truly beat Obama. You can't, again, believe the lies that a RINO will beat Obama...well you can, but it is fool-hearted.

eh.. I think it has more to do with polls. The polls have shown that Romney has the best shot against Obama and has the most money. The GOP wants power. They want to win. So that’s who they are going to support..whoever has the best chance to win. Do they care about who’s the REAL conservative? No. They just want to win and gain power. If Santorum happened to have the best chance to beat Obama, the establishment would be backing him.

Bob Dole was a moderate republican like Romney, McCain, Gingrich....I believe Paul, as in Iowa, would bring millions of independents over

Newt also trails Santorum in *national* polls—Santorum is second and Newt fourth in the recent Rasmussen poll. Newt fans may argue if they wish that Newt has a higher ceiling than Santorum, or that he’d have a better chance of beating Mitt one-on-one than does Santorum, or that Newt would have a better chance of beating Obama than Santorum—with none of which I agree—but they can no longer claim that Newt is polling better than Santorum either nationally or in the next primary contests.

“The “they” in 1979 were the ones who said a “real conservative” like Reagan couldn’t win.”

Got that. You are missing the point again though. Mr. Reagan was conservative AND charismatic. If the latter characteristic is absent, it’s over. Two of these qualities are better than one, but the necessary one is NOT conservatism in order to be elected . . not in this culture.

“You’re not making sense again.”
Used car salesmen sell cars. That’s what we got in ‘08. If we want to get rid of Obama, that’s what we need to win this. Your mistake is not seeing the reality of our voting public as it is. Hoping that more voters will see it the “conservative” way is a huge leap of faith. Which will insure that we get Obama back for another term. I don’t want that more than settling for a less than perfect candidate.

The best in the new year to you . . hopefully, it will be the beginning of a new administration as well.
