President Obama is putting plans in motion to give the Commerce Department authority to create an Internet ID for all Americans, a White House official told CNET.com.

White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt told the website it is "the absolute perfect spot in the U.S. government" to centralize efforts toward creating an "identity ecosystem" for the Internet.

Of course, there is nothing stopping anyone from creating another
“internet” with an anonymous gateway to the real one :)

saying there's no chance that "a centralized database will emerge."

Remember the old Social Security cards that had "Not to be used for identification" printed on them? Same lie, different decade.

Could be, I thought it was right forearm and forehead.
Either way, it appears to be approaching quickly.
(nope you were right)

Revelation 13:16-17

King James Version (KJV)

16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Revelation 13:16-17

New International Version (NIV)

16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

What does unconstitutional have to do with it?

Right, it doesn't say anything about internet in the constitution.
Watch what they try to do during this election cycle and be amazed
at the slight of hand and sunday law signings. Screw the Congress too.

The problem is Repubs in the F-N Congress, they've already given Obama a green
light to anything he wants. FIRE BONER!

Damn, that sounds like the same plan a couple of libtards on a local radio show were touting here a few days ago. Scary stuff.

Bad idea. Bad, baaaad idea.

The worst part is, this very same thing could easily be proposed and/or supported by many in the Republican party. It’s all about “security” and helps keep commerce “safe” for the citizenry.

If you all would spend some time learning about this you wouldn't be too worried.

X.500 has been around for a very long time. What has been missing is a trusted registration authority...for those who CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE.

If a Digital Certificate and it's associated registration were mandatory to access and use the internet, I would be worried. However, neither is the case.

What about minorities, women and children?

And the "undocumented" will undoubtedly be deemed to have the constitutional RIGHT to an Internet ID.
