MIAMI Former House speaker Newt Gingrich on Wednesday mocked as an Obama-level fantasy Mitt Romneys plan to deal with illegal immigration by encouraging self-deportation.
Gingrich made the comment as he began a day of outreach to Floridas Hispanic voters with an extensive interview on Spanish-language television and a speech at Florida International University in which he called for a more a forceful U.S. role in ending communist rule in Cuba, as well as an overhaul of U.S. economic policies toward all of Latin America.
In an interview with the Univision network, Gingrich said it was unrealistic for millions of illegal immigrants in the United States to voluntarily leave the country, as Romney, his chief rival for the Republican presidential nomination, suggested in a debate Monday ahead of Floridas Jan. 31 primary. Gingrich, who upset the GOP race by decisively winning Saturdays South Carolina primary, also used a question about the immigration issue to get in a few digs at the former Massachusetts governor over his wealth and tax returns.
You have to live in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and automatic $20 million income for no work to have some fantasy this far from reality, Gingrich told Univision interviewer Jorge Ramos. For Romney to believe that somebodys grandmother is going to be so cut off that she is going to self-deport, I mean this is an Obama-level fantasy.

Starve the beast.
We have one it's called deportation.
The illegals are already into crime. First, get rid of their cover ~
It is fantastical because millions will still remain and pose huge problems.
There doesn't seem to be any way to win on this issue, does there? Either they claim "no one can round up 11 million (ha!) illegals and send them home" or "self-deportation alone won't work."
Don't they call that having your cake and eating it too?
LOL! Was that a joke?
Well while I do not like Myth, I do agree with Myth’s plan, I dislike Newt’s immigration position even less, let’s hope we can get Newt to rethink his position.
Well, call me Pollyanna but hopefully we can actually DISCUSS THE ISSUE on this thread without it deteriorating into a bash-fest.
Despite the berry growers having some really cool looking berry picking machines they still need a lot of manual (in this area that means Manuel) labor.
It is simple. People say it's hard becaue they don't want to deal with it.
There doesn’t seem to be a way to win on the issue. It’s just another political football tossed around for convenience. The truth is there is no politician who understands the reality of the CRISIS as you and I and millions of other citizens do. It is very frustrating.
But if we can get someone who simply sets about ENFORCING the laws we already have... Voila!
And for posters who don’t like any of the plans or approaches offered, well, they must in some way be profiting from the presence of illegals in the U.S.
Is that the best you can do?
What would the audience have responded had they not been “censored?”
Hmmm?
Yesterday, Mark Steyn subbing for Rush, said he was going to take advantage of romney's new program and self-deport himself back to Canada. He was funny yesterday.
Rush must have bitch slapped Steyn for ragging on Newt, because he was walking on eggs yesterday when it came to Newt.
Agree. This cannot go on...someone needs to take a stand.
When Romney was asked how he would round up the illegals..he said, “self-deportation” the audience let out a stiffled laugh. Yes, they were told to restrain from making any applause or loud reactions. I think it is the BEST illustration of how out of touch Mitt is....dumb comment. Too bad you dont like it. NEWTER ROMNEY!
My guess is you sent that post to me but it was meant for someone else, because I in no way bashed anyoe least of all you....

Obviously the audience wasn’t from Southern California, and neither are you. If so, neither they nor you would find this subject so hysterically funny.
The problems with illegal immigration are
1. Cost to government and institutions of supporting illegals
2. Fraud damage through ID theft
3. Depressed wages introduced into what used to be decent paying blue collar jobs (roofing, meat processing, furniture)
4. Introduction of a shadow population within our society that is more vulnerable to crime and gang activity.
5. Damage to the above board/legal economy.
Solutions.
1 e-Verify requirement for all employees nationwide.
2. Stiff penalties for those that employ people without using e-Verify.
3. A guest worker program for agricultural workers. Workers only, but freedom to travel as desired back to their home country.
4. When law enforcement serves a warrant on an illegal alien, they take ICE with them. Any illegals caught at the residence are deported. Raise a gang banger, get deported.
5. No path to citizenship or legal status. You cheated to get in, you pay the price.
