Cat Owners- Doritos "Missing Cat" ad Offensive or are we too sensitive?
February 6, 2012 | vanity

Last night's Dorito's ad was apparently meant to be "funny". A dog seems to be responsible for a missing cat's disappearance and he bribes a guy with Doritos to keep silent.

If we find this offensive, are we too sensitive? Is it wrong to request Doritos to kill this ad? They suggest the dog killed and buried the cat , or even worse. My best friend's cat was killed by a dog a few year's ago.

In the late 80s there was a case in N.W. D.C. in which a wealthy cat owner got tired of neighbors’ dogs killing his cats and bought a (much) bigger cat for himself...

I am a cat lover. I didn’t see the commercial, but based on the description, I don’t think I would have viewed it as anything other than humor.

The surveys are in, and Dorito’s and M&M’s were among the high scorers for Super Bowl commercials yesterday.

Doritos won Mullen’s “Brand Bowl 2012” based on 400,000 tweets monitored by the Boston ad agency, which compiled its rankings by the volume of chatter and positive and negative commentaries.

Doritos’ two consumer-generated ads included “Man’s Best Friend,” in which a "cat-eating dog" bribed a man with Doritos to keep him quiet, &“Sling Baby,” which had a grandmother "sling-shooting a baby" to retrieve a bag of the snack chips from a boy in a tree fort.--Boston Herald

Herald Pulse Poll:

Which Super Bowl commercial made you laugh, tugged at your heartstrings or otherwise resonated with you most?

The ad Won first place in surveys and cost $20 and made the maker $1m.

AH poor baby well tell me cat lover, was the cat outside or inside? your animal should be inside as most places have a leash law which means you dont let your animals outside without supervision at the end of a leash. Dumb A$$.

How can you be so concerned with cat crimes when there was a naked m&m on the screen?

I’m offended by the ad, but that’s just too bad for me. Demanding that they pull the ad is silly. At the same time my 12yo, who desperately wants a cat, found the ad so distasteful he’s sworn off Doritos (at least for now). Life is full of risk; only time will tell whether my kid’s in the majority or minority.

I loved it. One of the best Super Bowl ads this year. It was the only one I laughed out loud at.
