"Sledgehammer": Peter Gabriel joins Rush revolt

As advertisers, affiliates and the general public continue to raise cain over Rush Limbaugh’s inflammatory comments about Sandra Fluke, another party has added his voice to the protest. A rep for singer/songwriter Peter Gabriel posted a message on his Facebook page insisting that the Brit's music no longer be used on Limbaugh’s radio show. Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” was utilized in the background of Limbaugh’s now-infamous rant, in which he called the Georgetown student a “slut” and a “prostitute.” The Facebook message reads: “Peter was appalled to learn that his music was linked to Rush Limbaugh’s extraordinary attack on Sandra Fluke. It is obvious from anyone that knows Peter’s work that he would never approve such a use. He has asked his representatives to make sure his music is withdrawn and especially from these unfair aggressive and ignorant comments.” As of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, the message had received more than 5,700 “Likes” on Facebook, as well as 1,200 “Shares” and 1,000 responses.

Big picture in these? Divide and conquer.

Just keep slicing up the society. Good and bad Americans. My speech and not your speech. This group but not that group.

e unum, pluribus: fortis mundus.

To: who knows what evil?

He’s about as famous as a rock musician in his 50s can be. He may be able to prevent the US of his music in the manner Rush used it because he could argue it is synchronization to another performance (Rush’s voice-over) rather than a standalone performance. Synchronization, most common for the use of songs in ads or movie soundtracks, requires a specific license which the holder of copyright in the recording can grant or withhold as he or she sees fit. Standalone performance on an over-the-air radio station require no licenses — the holder of the copyright in the composition (songwriter or his or her assignee or successor) gets an automatic formula-based royalty, the holder of the copyright in the particular recording gets nothing.

As a musician myself, I really, REALLY tried to like the band Rush. I just couldn’t. There is some incredible skill there, but musically, I don’t like the songs to which the skill is applied.

LOL. Gabriel is being resurrected as "Sledgehammer." He's has been completely dead to the media for over 2 decades, yet a few harsh words against Rush and he's somehow interesting again.

They'd wax Gabriel's corpse (like Lenin) and carry him through the streets if they thought it would help their cause.

I love Peter Gabriel’s music.. completely and utterly

I had to get used to this during the GWB years, when just about all my favorite actors and musicians wouldn’t keep their pie-holes shut.. So it was either ignore it, or stop watching movies and listening to music.

So typical... musicians and actors = lefty/socialists...

money is like so totally evil, except when it comes to their money.

Shakey’s, now there is a name I haven’t heard since they sponsored my little league teams back in the 70’s.

I never heard any of those that I can think of. I once had a mostly crappy album that I played a couple of times It had a Salsbury Hill track that I have heard a few times since. Nothing memorable about it...

—Shakey’s, —

There is still one in the Seattle area. It’s actually where my wife and I met in 1997 at our 25th high school reunion. Shakeys special is still our favorite pizza. Something about that thin crust and sauce.

Sadly, it is one of the two things I miss after moving from Seattle to Kentucky. I forget what the other thing was though. Neither is all that important. :-)

they ask to stop using it but it never changes and they collect money.

This is like the limo liberals who witheld their taxes durig vietnam but the actual amount of the tax was in a seperate account which the IRS was told and then the irs “garnished it” so the celeb could claim faux innocence and abouts by the “man”.

These artists have no choice in the matter.

I've been to both of the Seattle area Shakey's and-they're just not the same as the 1970's incarnation. No silent movies, no player piano, no guys in straw boaters and red vests playing the banjo.

Good pizza still, though.
