Pat Robertson: Pot should be legal like alcohol
Associated Press ^ | Thursday, Mar. 8, 2012 | MICHAEL FELBERBAUM

RICHMOND, Va. -- Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says marijuana should be legalized and treated like alcohol because the government's war on drugs has failed.

The outspoken evangelical Christian and host of "The 700 Club" on the Virginia Beach-based Christian Broadcasting Network he founded said the war on drugs is costing taxpayers billions of dollars. He said people should not be sent to prison for marijuana possession.

The 81-year-old first became a self-proclaimed "hero of the hippie culture" in 2010 when he called for ending mandatory prison sentences for marijuana possession convictions.

Do you honestly believe there are people NOT doing drugs right now because they are illegal? I seriously doubt it.

The laws and their effects on our freedoms are ruinous, not to mention the entire black market(s) and the additional violence they bring are even worse.

The truth is that if alcohol was discovered in the past 50 years, every nation would ban it and it would be a schedule 1 drug.

No doubt. And the number of no-knock raids and dogs and grandmas shot by SWAT would skyrocket. Because government knows what's best for us, whether we like it or not.

Dude, marihuana, coca, are Almighty God’s creations while alcohol, Internet, and Las Vegas aren’t!

if we had a responsible human race, everything should be legal....but we don't...

we have perverts attacking women when they can get any fix they want for money or over the internet....yet women are raped....

we have people who can get prescribed narcotics and then demand more....demand to smoke the stuff.....

humans are not reliable....humans are weak and some are evil....

legalize pot...but we'll have just as many people in jail...

alcohol is always blamed by libertarians for all the car accidents, but the dirty little secret is many people who use alcohol also are using weed or other drugs, however those are not usually tested for....

There is plenty of harm caused to others by a persons use of drugs. The only reason to take them is to get high. Chasing that high leads to endless pain and misery for the users family and friends. There is the lying, the stealing (because they need the fix), and eventually the theft and other illegal activities that go along with it. If you live as a hermit and never have ANY contact with another human being then you could make the argument, not otherwise

They’re making a nose spray in Europe that provides the pain-relief benefits of THC without the associated high. The drug manufacturers are allowed to grow marajuana to produce it. If we legalize marajuana, drug companies can more easily produce such drugs - that help millions with severe pain - and do so at a much reduced cost to them and us. I’m open to it. Marajuana is no longer a “gateway drug” IMO. It’s no different from alcohol. Those with a propensity for addiction will drink, smoke, shoot up, or pop pills no matter what the law allows.

Have I crossed to another dimension and Pat Robertson said that pot should be legalized?

Legalize drugs and watch what happens to this country. It will be uninhabitable by decent people.

You mean as uninhabitable as it was before 1910?

He grew it too.

He used it to augment the morphine and still be able to nibble a little something.

He died of pancreatic cancer.

VA Hosp doc put the prescription/recommendation in my hand as I was pushing dad out on a wheel chair for home hospice.

Of course he already had 6 plants growing back at the farm lol

I do not like the so called war on drugs. But do you honestly think that the Columbian drug cartel or the Mexican drug cartel or the Afghanis heroin growers are some how just going to go away if it is all legalized. Take a look at Zurich and ‘Needle Park’. That drug invested rat hole nearly ruined a beautiful city.

“Dementia (taken from Latin, originally meaning “madness”, from de- “without” + ment, the root of mens “mind”) is a serious loss of global cognitive ability in a previously unimpaired person, beyond what might be expected from normal aging.

A recent survey done by Harvard University School of Public Health and the Alzheimer’s Europe consortium revealed that the second leading health concern (after cancer) among adults is Dementia.[2]

Dementia is not a single disease, but rather a non-specific illness syndrome (i.e., set of signs and symptoms) in which affected areas of cognition may be memory, attention, language, and problem solving. “ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dementia

Pot has been around as an intoxicant to man for at least 5,000 years. It reaches back there with alcohol

But not for the white man, Cannabis never penetrated into alcohol based Western Civilization, as an intoxicant, even though it was used for making rope etc.

Even during the Crusades, the white men shunned it's use for that purpose.
