Iraqi activists sounded the bell over the killing of dozens of teenagers by religious police for having “emo” haircuts.
Activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbar daily that at least 90 Iraqi teenagers with “emo” appearances have been stoned to death by the Moral Police in the country in the past month. The violent crackdown against “emo” Iraqi teenagers came after the Iraqi interior ministry declared them as “devil worshippers.”
“The ‘Emo phenomenon’ or devil worshiping is being probed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate it as soon as possible since it’s detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger,” a statement by the Interior Ministry said.
“They wear strange, tight clothes that have pictures on them such as skulls and use stationery that are shaped as skulls. They also wear rings on their noses and tongues, and do other strange activities,” the statement added.
The statement said that Iraq’s Moral Police was granted approval by the Ministry of Education to enter Baghdad schools and pinpoint students with Western appearances.
The activists told the newspaper that a group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led the teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, Baghdad.
“First they throw concrete blocks at the boy’s arms, then at his legs, then the final blow is to his head, and if he is not dead by then, they start all over again,” one person who managed to escape told the daily. The exact death toll remains unclear, but Hana al-Bayaty of Brussels Tribunal, an NGO dealing with Iraqi issues, said the current figure ranges “between 90 and 100.”
Activists said that leaflets were distributed in Baghdad warning teenagers from donning the “emo” style, and in some regions, teenage homosexuals were killed by battering their heads also by concrete blocks.

You have not addressed the FACT that Emos largely adopt a philosophy that is contributing to their problem. You have, on the other hand as your past public posts show, get offended when your personal non-belief belief system is exposed as the problem it, as in the case of the whole Emo thing, demonstratively is. You have gone on grand rants about “Geezus”, and various other anti religion rants and then claim innocence when posters destroy your IMO pathetic lack of a coherent debate. In fact, your first post directly to me here was a provably baseless accusation about ‘badgering’ you.
Again, why are you here? Your posts on this thread and those since at least January are filled with attacks on belief, Christianity and people who don’t follow your personal non-belief belief system. You accuse people baselessly and show none of the traits of conservative thought. And you have whined about FR going south due to posters who embrace the same faith of the site’s founder on a site where he welcomes such.
Since you are here by your choice, you are free to choose to avoid responding to my posts if they bother you. It works both ways. If you willingly choose to respond to my posts, don’t feign shock when I debate you with fact, logic and reason. Your choice entirely.
You have a pattern of insinuating some type of pruriant or sexual interest coming from posters who disagree with your postings and continue to destroy your logic as long as YOU “kept talking back!”!!!! Looking back over some threads where you were involved over the years one can see this pattern...
If you don’t like the continued responses from reasoned and logical Freepers...you can also “stop talking to them”, but to make snide hints about other honorable Freepers’ immorality is certainly a sneaky way getting yourself out of the illogical corners you paint yourself into!
You may even win “the last word” by such comments, as many will back away out of politeness or honorable intentions, but you will not have “won the field” using reasoned logic!
I dunno. Ask a priest. My argument had nothing directly to do with Christianity. Since atheism, not Christianity is a significant issue part and parcel of the Emo issue, I brought it up. A relevant topic to the discussion. Christianity is not as the majority of Emos are demonstratively anti religious. I also brought up drug use, nomo/bisexuality, crime, self mutilation, lying, broken homes, and a dozen other issues even more of a problem. But two posters on this thread seem to want to make this about Christianity. You care to explain why that is?
Likewise, the original topic of the thread, murdered Emo kids, has squat to do with other subcultures of kids so what exactly is the point in bring them up here? They are not relevant to the discussion. At all.
You said “religion is toxic” and said that gang culture was “Christian”. You are the one who brought up the topic even if you did not use the word “atheism”.
If you don’t like the heat, stay out of the kitchen. If you don’t like my responses to your comments, don’t read them. FR is not your personal blog.

Where does the "hypocrite" part fit in? Who is being a hypocrite, and in what manner? Please explain. And you were the one who dragged in Christianity in connection with gangs. And slightly veiled atheism (not really veiled at all actually) when you stated "religion is toxic".

Someone here “may” feel that (to paraphrase) because when they... “joined 10 years ago, FR didn’t bill itself as “pro-God.” It was just about conservative thought. It has changed, and not for the better. In fact, (they) probably will spend less time on here in the future, as (they) don’t feel (themself) to be in good company as much as (they) used to. (They may feel that) A lot of articulate, intelligent thinkers have either left or communicate mostly through Freepmail now because the “Geezus wuvs me” crowd has taken over.”

Funny, when I joined in 2002 I think respect or reverence for God was mentioned as part of a mission statement. And if peoples’ religious discussions are something I don’t want to read; why - I skip over them! I don’t feel the slightest bit harassed by such discussions or professions of belief. Of course, I’m not an atheist. But I’ve seen plenty of atheists on FR who do not get bent out of shape by believers in God or discussions about faith.
And if people don’t like FR, I don’t think anything is chaining them here.
Gotta go to bed - I hate this “turning the clock forward/backward” stuff....
That was the date that rant was posted. I’ve only ever encountered one militant atheist on FR. Right here. All the others seem fine as long as no one pushes God o them. And no one did that here either. Pretty telling.
