Obama impeachment bill now in Congress

Declares president's use of military without approval 'high crime, misdemeanor'

Let the president be duly warned.

Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr., R-N.C., has introduced a resolution declaring that should the president use offensive military force without authorization of an act of Congress, “it is the sense of Congress” that such an act would be “an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor.”

Specifically, Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution reserves for Congress alone the power to declare war, a restriction that has been sorely tested in recent years, including Obama’s authorization of military force in Libya.

In an exclusive WND column, former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo claims that Jones introduced his House Concurrent Resolution 107 in response to startling recent comments from Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

“This week it was Secretary of Defense Panetta’s declaration before the Senate Armed Services Committee that he and President Obama look not to the Congress for authorization to bomb Syria but to NATO and the United Nations,” Tancredo writes. “This led to Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., introducing an official resolution calling for impeachment should Obama take offensive action based on Panetta’s policy statement, because it would violate the Constitution.”

I doubt this will go anywhere, but it's good to see that someone in Congress is paying attention.

I wonder why Ron Paul never submitted this bill? He should be ecstatic over this. Maybe it’s because only one of his bills has ever been passed or maybe it’s because he’d rather run his mouth than actually do something about the problem.

Good point. Since it won’t have any earmarks in it, he should vote for it.

Too many Republicans including those Talk Radio have gone on record saying the POTUS as CiC has no obligation to get congresses approval to use military force to make this look serious.

God bless Rep Jones. One of the unfortunately all too few up there who still take the Constitution seriously.

I don't think that it's the obligation, or non-obligation, of the President to seek congressional approval that is so shocking and so wrong, it is Panetta's assertion that a foreign body can provide a legal basis for deploying our military.

That is a fundamental error in understanding what the Constitution provides for. I believe that the President does have the legal and constitutional authority to deploy troops in furtherance of U.S. foreign policy, but I do not believe that one can find any legal basis for doing so on the supposed authority of any foreign political organization.

I have always been a vocal critic of the "War Powers Resolution" as an infringement on Presidential prerogative in pursuing our stated foreign policy goals (it was put in place by Democrats in reaction to Vietnam), but the legal basis for deploying troops must come from America and is not subject to any ruling or decision coming from a foreign political organization.

Yes, it’s good that someone is saying something. But it’s a bit late now, after that totally illegal war that he fought on the wrong side in Libya. What did the GOP do about that? Aside from McCain and his boyfriend cheering it on?

Meantime, they confirmed a Communist as Defence Secretary, without even attempting to filibuster it.

More “conservative theater” from our hard-working, competent reps. /sarc

I’d prefer they’d spend their time reducing government size and spending — and holding their ground on same.

Considering their large majority, this (R) controlled house has accoomplished essentially nothing of substance in two years. They should be ashamed of their performance. I know I am.

In an emergency, where time is of the essence, I would agree that the President has the power to go to war. But no President before Obama has ever just gone in without even bothering to explain himself to the people, and without even bothering to bring it to congress afterward—because the UN, or NATO, or someone had ordered it—not him.

I sincerely hope that Obama, Panetta, Holder and every one of Barry’s various minions all are rewarded with the long prison terms they so richly deserve.

As I recall in 2007 Pelosi took over the House and made Conyers head of the judicial committee. His committee held actions and hearings and wrote up possible articles of impeachment for GWB. Believe it or not Dems claimed that Bush actions as CiC that they disagreed with were unconstitutional... wow, big surprise.

Pelosi told them they could have their hearing fun all they wanted but that she would hold NO votes on impeachment of GWB. Why? She told them she wanted to win big again in 2008 (congress and WH) and an impeachment hearing over disagreements in foreign policy would be great way to derail it.

You got to give Pelosi credit, she knows how to lead her team and keep them together with the goal of beating her opposition, so she can actually get the big stuff passed later.

The chief critic of this bill, I predict, will be a man from Cincinnati, OH.

Jones is quite the contrarian, but people in NC may be headed to another Obama victory. Without Helms there, NC has been ruderless.

They've let him rule without their say on so many items that they're already written themselves off as just as old and outdated as the Constitution they were supposed to support. Save the tax dollars and let them all go home.

Bump.

Boehner and Cantor are worse than a joke. If this dead wood, along with the Republican leadership in the Senate, aren’t replaced in Jan. 2013, then even if a Republican president is elected there will be no fundamental change.

After we pinged each other I bumped into a coworker who told me he saw Panetta say that we cant aid Israel against Iran without the UN’s permission, He was pretty upset about him saying this too.

I thought of your comment immediately, I told him that is how liberals think.
