SANFORD, Fla. - More than 750,000 people have signed an online petition started by the parents of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in Sanford by a neighborhood watch leader.
The change.org petition has attracted celebrities like Cher, Chad Ochocinco and Michael Moore, who have tweeted their support for the Martin family.
The online attention is garnering the support of more musicians, professional athletes, film industry representatives and numerous other celebrities online, all of whom are calling for justice in this death investigation.
Martin's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, have called on Florida District Attorney Norman Wolfinger to bring charges against George Zimmerman, who Sanford police say shot and killed the17-year-old in self-defense.
A number of international celebrities have also taken to Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about the petition.
Musicians Wyclef Jean, Talib Kweli, Clay Aiken, Monica, Janelle Monae, and Raheem Devaughn; film leaders, including Spike Lee, Mia Farrow, Taraji P. Henson and D. L. Hughley have all tweeted their support.
Martin was shot and killed while walking from a store where he had just purchased a bag of Skittles and an iced tea for his younger step-brother. According to reports, Zimmerman called police to report a suspicious person after he saw Martin walking back from the store.
Despite police instructing him not to confront Martin, an altercation ensued. Witnesses say there was a scuffle before Zimmerman fired a shot, striking the teen in the chest.
They are not on the scene, therefore, they can't legally direct anyone to do this or that.
A person must, however, obey directions from a law enforcement officer AT the scene of an incident.

Me too, if I felt confident he was not armed. I consider the risk and respond accordingly.
You should check your facts. All indications are that Zimmerman (the shooter) was screaming for help, as Martin (the deceased) was on top of him, violently beating him. This is what the only known eyewitness has stated.
It really shocks and disappoints me that so many FReepers rush to swallow the left-wing propaganda Kool-Aid on this, rather than actually checking the known facts of the case.

While the Zimmerman ‘white’ on black killing is covered 24/7 on the MSM with an outpouring of rage and charges of a racial hate crime, where is the concern- where is the rage about the home invasion, torture, beating, rape and murder of the elderly white couple by ‘African Americans’ in Oklahoma just the other day?
The 90 year old war veteran husband was beaten, his jaw broken, shot in the face with a BB gun and now barely clings to life.
The 85 year old partially blind wife was raped and beaten to death.

Where is the outrage?
The facts are this:
An armed citizen attempted to illegally detain and threaten an unarmed minor who was not committing a crime of any kind. The teen found it necessary to beat the sh!t out of the crazy ba$tard in order to re-establish his freedom of movement on the public street.
As a result the armed citizen shot him to death.
This is a NO BRAINER.
Murder.
Where did you get this from? I have not seen this reported anywhere.
You have no understanding of the facts of this case, the law, or common sense.
There is no evidence that Zimmerman attempted to detain or threaten Martin. Unless he physically assaulted Martin, or threatened to do so (and there is no indication of either of these things), Martin had no right to attack and beat Zimmerman.
The full facts still need to come out, but as it stands now it is indeed a no brainer, Zimmerman was acting in self defense and is not guilty.
If additional facts come to light showing this was not the case, I will change my opinion.
