Conflicting Stories by Martin Family About Trayvon's Last Night?
Friday, March 30, 2012 | Kristinn

Posted on 03/30/2012 12:41:49 PM PDT by kristinn

I don't know what it means, but this strikes me as odd. From an interview with the parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin by the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA):

Martin, Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton; Benjamin Crump, the family lawyer; Al Sharpton and former New York Gov. David Patterson participated in an exclusive 1-hour telephone conference call last Thursday with more than three dozen publishers from the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).

Martin told publishers how he learned that his son had been killed.

“I had been out to dinner. When we got back between 10:15 and 10:45, he wasn’t at home. The night before, he had been to the movies with my nephew, who had recently moved up to the Orlando area from Miami. Every time Trayvon would come up here, they would find something to do, usually they would go to dinner. My nephew is 20 years old, a very responsible young man. So there was not panic at that moment that he was not home. I made several attempts to call his cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. I called my nephew’s cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. So at that point, I figured they had been in the movies because they would always go to the movies.”

Tracy Martin and his girlfriend went to bed. But the next morning, the day Martin and his son had planned to return to Miami, he learned that Trayvon still wasn’t back in the house. Tracy called his nephew again, this time reaching him and learning that Trayvon wasn’t with him.

Today, CNN published comments from a Martin family attorney that seems to conflict with the account proffered by Tracy Martin:

During the 10-day suspension, Tracy Martin took his son with him to Sanford, about four hours away from Miami, while he visited his fiancée because neither he nor Fulton wanted their son to stay in his hometown where he could enjoy his friends, said Horton, who has been in close contact with Martin's father.

"He wasn't just suspended from school and up at Sanford kicking it and having a good time," said Horton. Martin had only been to Sanford a handful of times.

His fateful walk to the convenience store for a bag of Skittles and an iced tea on the evening of February 26 happened only because the teenager pleaded to leave the apartment, said Horton.

"The only reason he got a chance to go to the store is because he begged his dad to go," he said. At the time, his father and his fiancée had gone out to dinner and to watch a basketball game, leaving Martin at the townhouse, according to Martin family spokesman Ryan Julison.

While walking to the store, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend, whom he had been talking to for over 6½ hours throughout the day, the family's attorney said, citing phone records. The girl, who did not want to be identified, said she told Martin to run, but he refused, the family attorney said.

What strikes me is the father made no mention of his son begging him to be allowed to go to the store in his interview with the NPAA. That would be crushing to a parent, if true. They would be guilt-ridden, thinking if only they had said no, he wouldn't have been out.

Instead, Tracy Martin says he was not very concerned about the whereabouts of his son until the next morning.

It strikes me as odd.

You need to be careful with the GF's calls and what she says about the conversation. Here's why...

It was weeks after the killing that the Sanford PD played the Zimmerman tape for the family to hear. If the GF told her story before then, she could not have known what was on the tape. Since her story very closely mirrors Zimmerman's call, it (the GF's story) indicates that Zimmerman did not return to his truck but continued to look for and then follow Martin.

And, the girl's records do not indicate that Martin called her (instead of the police) when he realized he was being followed but that he was talking to her already.

And, under the Florida SYG law, if this is what happened, Martin had every legal right to confront Zimmerman since Zimmerman had been following him in a car and then on foot.

As I said, you might want to be careful about giving the GF too much weight.

Twenty years and you never met an over-enthused wannabee? OK.

Did he have the right to assault him, though, based on any evidence we have?

wtc911 Is a retired LEO. Connect his name to city. Met him the night he signed on..Pretty difficult days...We have these conversations regularly. He was/is a good questioning guy who tries to keep it to “just the facts mam”

(Got a feeling he didn’t finish listening to the 911 call from the teacher/neighbor on this case..... ;~)....Think he may see me as a little like her. LOL)

Always enjoy the brain storming. He keeps conversation honest and this participant searching for truth.

Where is the evidence that he did assault him?

You claim that you were on the job for twenty years...in all that time how many times did you see the guy who threw the first punch end up getting his ass kicked?

Where is the eyewitness who said that Martin threw first?

Zimmerman's brother said that Martin was trying to get the weapon. If this is true, when did Martin first realize that the guy following him was armed? Did Zimmerman reach for it? Did he already have it out?

You don't know. And that's the point.

Sure I have. I once stopped a guy driving a Ford Crown Victoria (same car we drove) who had a police scanner and a flashing police light. He was responding to our calls as if he was the police.

When I encountered him, I didn't jump on him and attempt to beat him to death. I did arrest him, however, because his use of the police light was illegal.

Nothing Zimmerman did, based on all evidence available to us, would lead me, in my 20+ years of law enforcement experience, to label him as an "over-enthused wannabe", certainly not to the extent that he is somehow ultimately responsible for using force to defend himself from Martin's assault.

In the end, it is the law that matters. I have repeatedly challenged posters like you to post here any law that was broken by Zimmerman, along with your evidence he broke that law.

What if Zimmerman lost Martin (as the tapes indicate), and turns around to go back to his truck? Does Martin still have the right to confront? Seems like at that point he’d be advancing, and not “standing his ground”.

Another question. Why doesn’t Martin call the police if he feels threatened?

Wow. Well, there's the police report detailing his injuries. Then there are the witness statements that place Martin atop Zimmerman, assaulting him.

To keep the record straight...I am not "retired" LEO. I am one of the 6,000 that NYPD laid off when the city went broke so I only had a few years in a radio car...but they were very busy years.

After that I spent a few years finding runaways in the city for distraught out-of-town parents. I did it for free.

You don't know. And that's the point.

You sure are right. And you should have learned in the academy that we don't arrest people without probable cause. So if we don't know, how can anyone call for Zimmerman's arrest?

By the way, I salute your police service, brother. I just vehemently disagree with your take on this.

They have the records of this call and many others that day. He initiated the call.

Yes we need to be cautious of her testimony.

My understanding when she was first interviewed by ABC article she gave the accounting stated above.

It was before police/city had made 911 calls available.

She didn’t contact his dad/mother that night and it is my understanding because of privacy issues LEO took several days to get information off phone ( warrent needed) She did not contact police during that time.

The ABC article/information was released before the REVs got involved. Since then family lawyer has repeated the same information. Trayvon confronted verbally first, Z answered with a question then all hell broke loose.

If you look at the time frame of her calls and the first 911 call (where you can hear the calls for help and eventual gun shot) only a couple of minutes are missing.
“John” who IDed who was on top and bottom and says he went upstairs to place the 911 call, is not on the list of calls released. (Another called said guy in white shirt on top.)
His visual sighting would fill part of that time frame.

So I’d say there are just seconds missing from the time frame. Important seconds true but forensics should help determine validity of material gathered.

Same here...

As for Zimmerman getting arrested, I have said here many times that I don't think he will and that, based on what we "know", he shouldn't.

On a 101st note...I have a good friend, young enough to be my son, who was a squad leader with 1/187 in Iraq in 2003. My wife and I adopted his squad.

I met him in the DMZ in ROK when he was TDY to the Battalion Scouts and I was researching a film. He was assigned to keep me from stepping on something nasty.

I ran into him again in 2002 at the BNCOC at Benning. He was going through the program and, because of other things I had done, I was invited to be OpFor at the MOUT and in the field phase. I spent half a dozen years doing that twice a year.

My friend got really banged up in November 2003. He was at Walter Reed for a very long time. My wife and I drove down there once a month and opened a bar tab at the steak house where the guys ate for free on Fridays. We used to see freeper Concrete Bob there. I would tell the barkeep to close it out when it hit $500.

I have other experience of interaction with CID but that's for a different day.

Bless you, good seeing you again and thanks for keeping me honest.

Wait until autopsy and forensic are released. Cboldt assured me that we will see them even if it doesn't go to trial. We'll talk again then

Here's to other families moving past denial and son's everywhere living long healthy lives.

May the healing begin.

Crime map from Oct 3, 2011 to present, even another assault 3 days ago. Sex crimes, thefts, burglary, assaults and vandalism shown.

There's a reason why they had a Neighborhood Watch here.

Looking for the information at the source of this map that explains the tabs. Do you have a link or the story that accompanies the picture?

Thanks. I have only seen/heard the 3 day figure.

Do you have a link to an article that confirms the 12 hour number? I’d really like to get all the details on this case since the media is distorting this so badly.

Thanks.

No, not offhand.

On the general subject, the best place for hard information is the city of Sanford web site. They have the 911 calls and a bunch of other material.

If the police reports are not on that link there is another one that has the initial reports.
