Sarah Palin Is Going Toe-To-Toe With Katie Couric This Week By Co-Hosting The 'Today' Show
Business Insider ^ | 04/01/2012 | Brett LoGiurato

No, this is not an April Fools joke.

Sarah Palin will co-host NBC's "Today" show on Tuesday morning, pitting her directly against Katie Couric, who is guest-hosting ABC's "Good Morning America" for the entirety of next week.

The direct competition with Couric could have been an enticing factor for Palin. It's her chance to get back at the "gotcha" tactics of Couric from the 2008 election, or the "lamestream" media, or the "elite liberal" media, or whatever she likes to call it these days. Maybe she'll grace us all with new adjectives!

And it signals a freak-out mode for NBC, which has been in more of a ratings battle with ABC's morning show lately and is undoubtedly worried about Couric's hosting stint this week on its rival's show. NBC has also recently announced a "surprise" guest host on Monday -- they are saying "a legend returns," according to Forbes.

NBC is billing Palin's guest spot as a "side you've never seen before," one that gives insight into "what she really thinks about GOP politics and the president.

Are we -sure- this isn’t an April fools joke? Man... This would make heads explode.

Hard to believe a paid Fox News contributor would be allowed to host a show on a network competing with Fox and Friends.

Though I’ve been wrong before.

Will Katie do her dump dance?

I think her dump dance was far superior to any of her performances as a 'TV journalist'.

Katie missed her calling, in my opinion. She should’a been a sex kitten. She’s a total loser as a TV anchor.

Is Katie giving dance instruction to the little girl, or....what?

Context....need context.

It looks to me like the little girl on the left has a look that says, "mommie what are you doing?"

Not sure how she could do that while she's under contract with FOX, and isn't Couric still with CBS? I think this is an April Fools spoof but if they could pull it off it would give the Today Show ratings they haven't enjoyed since the 1960's (and not because of the Perky One).

They are not on the same show. Katie is hosting ABC that week. Sarah on NBC Tuesday. It is a ratings war that day.

Katie to little girl: "It's a womyn thing, hon. You'll understand when you're a big girl."

You’re right and I caught that when I re-read the article after posting. Still surprised that she could take the gig while under contract with FOX.

Sarah Palin retweeted this on Saturday: "RT @MeganKToday: Tuesday @todayshow exclusive: @SarahPalinUSA live in studio. A side you haven't seen...More to come"

After her refusal to back Romney, FOX would probably love it if she got an offer from a competing network so they could get rid of her without having to deal with the negativity they’d get from conservatives if they fired her.

You can bet that everything she has no control of will be harder left than usual and meant to embarrass her.

If this is true (and not an April Fools joke, as I suspect), I'm not happy about it. You're right, NBC will do everything possible to make her look bad, from poor camera angles, giving her miscues, bad direction, anything you can possibly think of.

I would have guessed Sarah wouldn't agree to this. Why not do a week-long guest co-host on a Fox show, where the the network is at least not as openly hostile to Governor Palin?

NBC today show is having various problems at the moment. The MSM is falling apart. In Today Show’s case Couric wanted to go to greener pastures and fled 6 years ago. Meredith Vieira did not really pull in the ratings but the show did ok after she replaced. It expanded to four hours and brought in Kathie Lee Gifford for hour 4 with Hoda. Show is not the greatest thing on earth.

Well recent reports show that the show is losing more ratings and having problems. They let Meredith go because she had personal health issues with her Husband and couldn’t stay on. So what I read said that people were 50-50 in picking Ann Curry to replace her. But they did and now it sounds like gawker says it isn’t going well.

Now the show is thinking of dumping Ann because Matt is unhappy and wants out, but reports are Matt signed a deal to stay which is undisclosed. So if that is the case then liberal Guthrie, who moved from MSNBC to today show’s 3rd hour after years at Court TV, will take over.

Then Seacrest will be on Tuesday to make announcement. He was supposed to have replaced Matt. It’s all rumors now if Matt stays on.

They are confused on the direction at the moment. Natalie Morales, who has a Husband in the army, is basically being passed over, but the show is all over the map.

They do liberal news hours 1 and 2, but by hour 2 jump to celebrity and entertainment junk. Hour 3 is like a different show. they do fashion junk among other things. Hour 4 is the KLG/Hoda hour and most of it is from another floor.

ABC’s GMA stole as a correspondent the old Insider woman Lara Spencer and ratings have improved. But the show is upset Couric is filling in. Elisabeth Vargas feels passed over as she is the usual fill in.

What most people may not know is Fox News and Fox Business is around the corner from Rockefeller center. So Msnbc’s studio is across from Fox news. WABC and one of the ABC studio’s is down the street. But GMA comes from Times Square in a studio away from the main ABC building.

CNBC is in New Jersey. Bloomberg Business is somewhere else in Manhattan, New York City.
