On Monday, former Arkansas governor and one-time Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will launch a three-hour radio program on almost 200 stations across the country, going voice-to-voice with Limbaugh in the noon-to-3 p.m. time slot, Monday through Friday.
Cumulus Media, which owns and operates the new program, is already pitching Huckabee to listeners and advertisers as the safe alternative to a man who has recently found himself under weeks of intense fire - not for the first time - and who some believe could be vulnerable to a challenge from someone offering a kinder, gentler conservative voice.
Our tagline is, More conversation, less confrontation, Huckabee told POLITICO. Im going to treat every guest with respect and civility. Nobody is going to come on and get into a shouting match with me. Thats just not my style.
Making a direct comparison with Limbaugh, John Dickey, the co-COO of Cumulus Media, adds, This is going to be safer from a commercial standpoint, and more respectful from a listeners perspective. I think that environment has been sorely lacking in talk radio.
While representatives of The Rush Limbaugh Show, a Clear Channel property, and its syndicator, Premiere Networks, agree Huckabee will, in fact, offer a safer alternative, they strongly reject any suggestion that he poses a threat to Limbaughs audience and enormous influence. In their eyes, Huckabee is just the latest in a long line of would-be competitors who have never been able to measure up.

Great analogy. Gomer is about as close to a real Marine as Huckabee is to Rush. The only thing Huckabee has in common with Rush is his gender and skin color. After that Huckabee loses in ever contest. This won't last ninety days.
I predict that Huckabee will be touting his ratings on the days that Major League Baseball pre-empts Rush on those stations which broadcast games.

That may be because he doesn't have "guests". Granted, occasionally, he will have an interview with someone (like Dick Cheney); but, it is a rare occurance.
Better tagline......(have milquetoast with your coffee)
Yeah, and how long did Bill O’Rielly’s failed stint in radio last? Huckaboob won’t even last that long.
No one is in the same league as Rush. I look at it in sports analogy: You have professional basketball players, and then there comes a Michael Jordan. There are conservative talk show hosts, and then there is Rush.
He is simply made for radio and for this particular format. No one else comes close.
J.D. Hayworth is out at KSFO from 9:00am-noon. I hope he was just renting when he moved here from Arizona a few months ago.

Has someone lost their mind? Rush is a moderate, not all that far to the right of center. Huckabee however is at the left edge of the Republican party which is well to the left of center and trying hard to merge with the Democrats. This article clearly shows that the media indoctrination can be and is being used to bilk people of their money.
Heads up Cumulus Media, “WE THE PEOPLE” are to the right of center, “NOT” to the left. You will lose your investment.
Huckabee?! No thanks, I’ll take Rush.
Only slightly longer than I could bear listening to it, if I had nothing better to do...
LOL at the picture you posted. Wish it could be side-by-side with the one above, with the (presumed) Huckabee clan in those ghastly striped shirts...
Granted, Rushie doesn't often have guests, but you must not have been a listener for very long or you have a poor memory!
Is this the same Mark Davis that subs for Rush? If so he’s a Party boy RINO. I turn the radio off every time he subs for Rush.
Now a 24x7 subscriber I've listened to Rush since 1990 or 91 and he has had a few other guests during that time, including Joe Scarborough who was excellent. This was during the late 1990's or early 2000's.
The topic was "What happened to the class of '94" after the GOP took control of the House. Scarborough explained that if the Republicans hadn't caved on the government shutdown, Clinton would have likely been a one-term president.
He said that at the time of the cave the polls had begun to shift in support of the House position but the media didn't report them. The RINOs panicked and handed Clinton a victory that solidified his 1996 reelection.
Rush, if you see this, please replay the Scarborough interview!
LOL Good one, stephenjohnbker.
Good tagline ya got there : )
That conversation among those guys is one of the funniest exchanges in the movies. OBWAT is hands down one of the best movies ever made. My sons have the entire dialogue memorized.

Typical of people who never listen to Rush, yet feel free to criticize him based on the lies of his critics.
When is Gomer Pyle going to just go away???
We need to hear the truth, not Mr Rogers.
I wonder if Huckaster will be as much of a success on radio as Olbermann has been on TV?
