Madison - Gov. Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett are locked in a dead-even race for governor, according to a poll released Wednesday by Marquette University Law School.
The poll also showed Barrett leading his Democratic rivals in Tuesday's primary. The winner of the primary will face the Republican governor in the June 5 recall election.
Among registered voters, Barrett led Walker 47% to 46%. That 1-point lead was reversed when considering only likely voters, with Walker holding 48% and Barrett holding 47%.
That's "just about as close to a tie as you can possibly get," said the poll's director, visiting Marquette political science professor Charles Franklin, during a webcast about his findings.
The results are even closer than one done by Marquette in March, when Walker led Barrett 47% to 45%.
The latest poll was released just two days after candidates filed fundraising reports that showed Walker with a huge cash advantage. But so far his heavy spending has not allowed him to break away from Barrett.
Walker performed much better against former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk. He beat her 49% to 42% among registered voters, with similar results among likely voters. Walker had an advantage of 49% to 40% among likely voters in head-to-head matchups with both Sectary of State Doug La Follette and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout of Alma.

In the governor's race in 2010, Walker beat Barrett by 53-47%
In the past 9 state senate recall elections, in total, the Repubs have gotten 52-48% of the aggregate votes, even though they did lost a very tight senate race with a Repub senator who had cheated & left his wife, and a 2nd state senate race (Kapanke) in uber liberal, union country, UW-Lacrosse, Lacross, WI. Otherwise the Repubs in aggregate garnered 52-48% of the votes.
I wouldn't trust any secular university or Marquette Law School (lawyers who are 80% dems? no bias there I'm sure) to put out an honest poll.
The liberal socialist media wants you to believe this load of crap. I realize it will be a tight race, but I predict that Walker will win with the same margin 53-47% as before.
My bigger concern are the 4 senate recall races that are being held. The dems & unions will zero in on these races with millions of union dollars, since the unions aren't all that excited about Barrett in the first place.
If they dump Walker, watch for the exodus of businesses from that state. They`ll be looked upon as the cash cow to fund all the public sector benefits the union thugs are demanding.
Other states .. especially of the RTW variety.. are watching, Wisconsin... and they`re open for business.

If Walker loses, it will kill conservatism forever in WI. No conservative will likely run again or be able to get the funds together to do so. WI people are just liberal, as I fear the outcome will show. They are after all Badgers having broken away from Wolverines way back in 1848.
That just means the RATS will have to work extra hard on voter fraud.

Love to know where your data comes from? We have a lot of work to do. Democrats are making phone calls and knocking on doors. Advertisements only go so far. Walker has dropped in polls since he started carpet bombing airwaves. Same poll showed Obama up 9 over mitt. Message don’t hope don’t bitch, just work to get message out.

So, come early June, we'll know whether Wisconsinites want freedom and prosperity or to meekly kneel at the feet of their Big Government/Big Union masters.
I look at it this way: If they do decide to kneel at the feet of their government/union masters and turn out Walker as ordered, then RTW states will benefit from the business base that will flee Wisconsin. Virginia is RTW, and will be one of those beneficiaries. I'd rather see Walker win this battle, but if the cheeseheads don't like prosperity and freedom and want a return to tax-and-spend, screw 'em.
WI conservatives & the Repubs need to work like there is no tomorrow, but in the end, I believe that Walker will beat Barrett by 53-47% margin (his winning margin in the 2010 governor's race, in which the dems had controlled for the past 10 years). I am very much concerned that most of the $61 million union cash will go to the 4 state senate recall races to try & obliterate the 4 senate races. However, even with these, last year the dems & unions spent $45 million on the 9 senate recall races and only managed to win 2 of them, one of which was very close with a Repub state senator who had cheated on and left his wife.
So work & pray like there is no tomorrow.... because if the dems & unions do steal & pull this election out, WI will be toast after that, along with any other elected officials who oppose the thug unions.
My thoughts exactly. It seems, like an alcoholic in denial, people in Wisconsin and maybe in America need to hit rock bottom before we all come to our senses.
Add to that a few things:
1. Minorities aren’t going for Barrett in the numbers he would need and there is a good chance the black population especially will sit this out.
2. The poll has no idea if public union members will vote for Barrett in necessary numbers. What will their reaction be when he crushes Falk and the fact that he has used ACT 10 wherever he could in Milwaukee.
3. New property values came out for the City of Milwaukee. Taxes up while values went down 10-20%
4. Areas of former support for Dems up north are fuming over mining screwjob and happy with changes to the DNR. The Senator for that area (Jauch) will not run next time because he knows he’s screwed.
5. Turnout percentage for supporters of Walker. As you mention the MU poll is off in its weighting.
I’ll stick to my belief that the result will be the same as 2010. If not we look at moving our business to a friendlier State.
