Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, under fire over the tax consequences of renouncing his U.S. citizenship, said on Thursday he is obligated to and will pay 'hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes to the United States government.' The social media entrepreneur and investor said in a statement, emailed to Reuters by a spokesman, that his decision to move to Singapore was 'based solely on my interest in working and living' there.

Ahh, but what if this starts a trend? Streisand, Baldwin, Moore, etc. doing the same thing? Wouldn’t that make it worthwhile?

According to everything I have read, Saverin has paid every cent of his taxes to date, unlike quite a few members of the senate, congress and the Obama administration.

If Baldwin, Moore etc.. decided to do this, they would want to pass a law restricting them from ever returning to the U.S. IMHO.

Fundamental property rights over blind patriotism. I salute Mr. Saverin.

And if this is the new attitude toward those with the means and capital to flee the ship, the ship is going to sink even faster.

As worthless as I feel Facebook is, at least Eduardo has produced something which people feel has value.

This is something which cannot be said for the worthless liberal (and RINO) t*rds in the senate and the house. They are in politics because they cannot produce useful work in the real world.

They are corrupt, venal, incompetent dorks.

I think the problem lies with the taxation of our country. Not our country in general.

This is a Galt move. He’s only one guy but the politicians are doing exactly as they do in Atlas Shrugged, rather than look at their policies, make more law to mooch.

Exactly, we can’t on one hand complain about the over-oppressing taxation and regulation and on the other hand, complain when someone goes Galt because of it.

I agree with Mr. Saverin. He has paid US taxes as required. Now, if he has found a better alternative, I see nothing wrong with his taking it. Mr. Saverin has not done anything wrong. In the future, he should be welcomed back in the the US just as other visitors are.

Mr. Saverin should not be labeled a POS for being a good businessman. He earned his money, and it is HIS, not OURS.

But Jerry Brown is counting on 1.2 billion in Facebook taxes. He’s already written it into the budget. Typical.

I can’t blame him. I’m very happy for him, he got out alive. I’d do the same in his position.

It seems all this country wants to do is to bleed all it’s citizens dry so they can be offered food stamps and assistance.

We are all just walking piggy banks to them.

America was founded on freedom. He or anyone else should be free to stay or go...

He has committed no crime, has paid his taxes, helped create an industry that is worth Billions - and wants to go home. Instead of asking yourself “Why” he wants to renounce, you attack him.

Meanwhile, we have Millionare politicians who have not paid taxes, or cheated on them, have sold our future down the river - and apparently they are all right?

He is free to do what he wants. He is (or was) a citizen of the United States, not property, not a slave. He need not purchase his freedom. He is free to go; and we are poorer for having lost him.

Seriously, do you feel somehow “entitled” to the wealth he has created? Does he “owe” you something?

I gotta agree with you. Instead of criticizing Saverin, politicians should be asking: what is wrong with this country that makes productive people want to leave?

If we're not careful, the USA will become one big California.

Freepers cheer when a wealthy person moves from California to deny those free spending liberal politicians any more unearned tax money to fund their leftist socialist schemes.

Isn’t this the same tactic on a national scale?

The problem is with our federal government and leftist politicians, not with individuals trying to protect their wealth from avaricious politicians.
