Call it the return of the Reichsfluchtsteuer.

....

“I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s and Rhodesia in the ‘70s and in South Africa as well,” Norquist said. “He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.”

The Reichsfluchsteuer, or Reich flight tax, that German government imposed on Jews trying to flee in the 1930s was 25 percent; Schumer and his Senate colleague Bob Casey, Democrat of Pennsylvania, want 30 percent. Give Schumer some credit for creativity.

According to Norquist, the New Yorker did not just plagiarize and translate. He also raised the rate. ....

It doesn’t have to stop at individuals either, wait till they propose it for corporations as well. I remember a few years ago Microsoft was threatening to pack it all up and move to Vancouver.

Yeah. Same for those that leave California for a lower tax state like Texas. Charge them a 30% tax. That'll show em.

That was my first thought. Not a large leap 'til they tell you where you can & cannot live.

I am literally in shock that there are FReepers going along with this! Like the final act of Atlas Shrugged when they finally break down and torture John Galt demanding that he produce! This is unbelievable. It CAN happen here. It IS happening here!

This will hurt trade to no end.

A typical outcome of Communism. Ending freedom of anything is their ultimate goal to enslave populations.

None of the Communist-wanna-bes can possibly answer the question: can you give one example of where Communism succeeded?

I don’t know how your position differs from slavery. Maybe it’s slavery with an American flag on your lapel but it is slavery nonetheless.

The America you and I are proud of would never pass such laws.

It is time to starve the beast. The founding premise of America is that the individual is superior to the State.

Change that and you no longer have an America.

Cant feel much sympathy if the get clipped by a 30% tax on the way out..

If you approve of this sort of tax, you pretty much acknowledge that all of your property belongs to the government, and you just possess it until they decide to take it.

Don't get me wrong. I think Saverin has exposed himself as a man without a moral foundation. Who aspires to US citizenship and then renounces it? Eduardo Saverin, apparently. He's an international douche.

“I will never renounce nor consider renouncing my American citizenship.”

I agree with the sentiment of your statement, but this is not the America of my Grandfather, my father, or my youth.
I voluntarily fought in VN against the very idea that if you want to leave your country of birth you had to give the govt. your money, property, and sometimes your life.

"I'm expecting we will finally get that wall along the mexican border -- only pointing at US. "

Over 100 posts and no one has pointed out the we have a Republican Candidate running for nomination for President that warned us not too long ago that that wall could, and likely would, be used that way.

Miss him yet?

Perhaps in a few years after Romney throws the race to the Oba-Führer.

(Too bad Ron Paul is the only candidate we have, making such points.)

How about taxing the illegal aliens that enter the us before we start penalizing lawful acts by our own citizens? By the way these idiots dont know there already is an exit tax since 2008? And don’t forget Barbara Boxers bill rider to suspend passports if you owe IRS over a 50k...

Remember everyone mocked Ron Paul in the debate for saying he was against a border wall since it would be used to keep us in?

Looks like he was right, AGAIN!

They just want to be dictators. I doubt they believe communism works.

There is no draft. Our military is a voluntary job. No one is forced to enlist or re-enlist.

So if the military is all voluntary, then patriotism is dead. Good to know.

“Traitors renounce their citizenship and leave the USA..”

Good one Joe, America was founded by “traitors” who renounced their citizenship and left England.

When I was a young man conservatives despised Americans who renounced their citizenship, and wished them all kinds of ill fortune.
