FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale
of our military and our allied military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

Music Night
To keep you all in the mood
for the music thread
Fabulous FRiday is going to be about
the 45 rpm record
Remember the 45s?
Never heard of them?
Take a trip back in time to see what it's all about.

Tonight we check out the history of the 45.

The basic parameters of he music single
were established in the late 19th century,
when the gramophone record began to supersede
phonograph cylinders in commercial music.

The most common form
of the vinyl single is the 45 or 7 inch,
the names are derived from its play speed,
45 rpm and the standard diameter 7 3 (18 cm).

The 7 3 45 rpm record was introduced in 1949
by RCA as a smaller, more durable and higher-fidelity replacement
for the 78 rpm shellac discs.

The first 45 rpm records were monaural,
with recordings on both sides of the disc.

As stereo recordings became popular in the 1960s,
almost all 45 rpm records were produced in stereo by the early 1970s.

Although 7 3 remained the standard size for vinyl singles,
12 3 singles were introduced for use by DJs in discos in the 1970s.

Perhaps the golden age of the single was on 45's in the 1950s
and early 1960s in the early years of rock music.

Hope you enjoyed this trip back down memory lane.
Or just learned something new.
Tell us about your first 45 or your favorite.

Remember, the Canteen is a family friendly place.
We welcome the military, our allies, and their families.
Continued prayers for the success and completion of your mission.
Prayers for your safe return home.

A man and his wife were sitting in the living room. He says to her, "Just so you know, I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine. If that ever happens just pull the plug."

So she gets up and unplugs the TV.

Conversion
May 25, 2012

Before my husband and I travel, we go to the bank and trade in our US dollars for the currency of the country we’ll be visiting. We do this so we can pay for expenses while we’re away from home.

When we become Christians, another kind of exchange takes place. Our lives are like currency that we convert from one medium to another. We trade our old life for a new one so that we can begin “spending” ourselves in a different kingdom. Instead of spending ourselves for the causes of this world, we are able to start spending ourselves for the cause of Christ.

The apostle Paul is a good example of this difference. After his dramatic conversion on the way to Damascus (Acts 9), he began spending his life in a dramatically different way. Instead of pursuing Christians to imprison and kill them, he began pursuing non-Christians to convert them. Then he spent the rest of his life for their welfare. He wrote to the church at Corinth, “I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls” (2 Cor. 12:15). Everything he did was for the edification of his spiritual children (vv.14,19).

Conversion is far more than just changing our final destination. It’s changing the way we spend each day of our lives.

Lord, help me to spend myself on what will last,
not on what will fade away one day.
I give my life to You that I might spend and be spent
for others and Your will. Amen.
Conversion takes only a moment—transformation takes a lifetime.

Read: 2 Corinthians 12:14-21

I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls. —2 Corinthians 12:15

Job 38-42
