FReeper Canteen ~ Fabulous FRiday ~ 25 May 2012

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale
of our military and our allied military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

Music Night
To keep you all in the mood
for the music thread
Fabulous FRiday is going to be about
the 45 rpm record
Remember the 45s?
Never heard of them?
Take a trip back in time to see what it's all about.

Tonight we check out the history of the 45.

The basic parameters of he music single
were established in the late 19th century,
when the gramophone record began to supersede
phonograph cylinders in commercial music.

The most common form
of the vinyl single is the 45 or 7 inch,
the names are derived from its play speed,
45 rpm and the standard diameter 7 3 (18 cm).

The 7 3 45 rpm record was introduced in 1949
by RCA as a smaller, more durable and higher-fidelity replacement
for the 78 rpm shellac discs.

The first 45 rpm records were monaural,
with recordings on both sides of the disc.

As stereo recordings became popular in the 1960s,
almost all 45 rpm records were produced in stereo by the early 1970s.

Although 7 3 remained the standard size for vinyl singles,
12 3 singles were introduced for use by DJs in discos in the 1970s.

Perhaps the golden age of the single was on 45's in the 1950s
and early 1960s in the early years of rock music.

Hope you enjoyed this trip back down memory lane.
Or just learned something new.
Tell us about your first 45 or your favorite.

Remember, the Canteen is a family friendly place.
We welcome the military, our allies, and their families.
Continued prayers for the success and completion of your mission.
Prayers for your safe return home.

Before the Sun sets today I'll be with Master Nate, and I'll be with him until midday Monday.

Still trying to find a job.

MrsSR retired from Elementary School yesterday.

#1 Dau is doing better and is we're told due to give birth to a little girl as early as mid June.

Oh boy...a road trip to see Master Nate...and a long weekend to boot! ((HUGS))

Congratulations to MrsSR on her retirement.

Master Nate and now a little girl...can you say tied around her finger!!!! Glad to hear daughter is doing better. One day at a time.

We are using that method with my Dad. My Mom called me at work yesterday....he had fallen in the bathroom, possibly from the toilet to the tub. She is going to work on him for answers today. She bandaged his elbow and he went back to bed and she couldn’t get him up. He’d been there all day.

I told her to tell him I said to get up, go to the bathroom, go to the kitchen and eat something, and DRINK! She called back later sounding much relieved. He responded to “Kathy said you have to get up, etc”. When I got home I got him up again to do all the same things, and told him he had to stay up for awhile and keep drinking. He lasted til about 8:45p, came in, and asked, “Can I go to bed now?”

I haven’t heard anything this morning, but am taking the afternoon off to give my Mom a break. And we can share the weekend if need be.

Actually, Ms. U has not even been in the 55 Cheve and rode in the Cobra just once but not with me. So, my ‘hobby’ appears to be a guy thing. That’s OK, fun is had - big time.

Have a nice weekend.
