Firing squad ends clerk’s EBT stand
Boston Herald ^ | 27 June 2012 | Howie Carr

Posted on 06/27/2012 6:12:04 AM PDT by smokingfrog

Jackie Whiton, age 65, had worked as a cashier at the Big Apple convenience store in Peterborough, N.H., for years. But then a couple of weeks ago she committed a firing offense.

She refused to allow a welfare recipient to use his EBT card to buy a pack of smokes.

How dare a taxpayer say no to a member of the non-working class? This is verboten in Obama’s America.

So she was fired. That’ll teach her. The gimme guy was a young man, about 20, and when he asked for cigarettes, Jackie Whiton handed them to him but asked for his ID. He handed her his EBT card.

“I said to him, ‘Do you think that the man in line behind you and the lady behind him want to buy you your cigarettes?’ And he said ‘Yes.’ Then he said, ‘Give me back my card.’ And I said, ‘Give me back my cigarettes.’ ”

The kid left and the man behind him in line then told Jackie Whiton, “You said just exactly what I was thinking.”

I am a welfare case manager in Florida. If someone doesn’t turn in their timesheet and meet the federal participation rate of 87 hrs per month(child under 6) I sanction and snatch benefits immediately. Level one sanction is loss of cash for 10 days, food stamps for a month. They must re-apply and go through the work registration process all over( workshops, resume on state database, 45 day waiting period for processing). Im not defending welfare, this is what I do. Not that I like it...

LOL...

There are two simple ways to avoid the work requirement.

1 get pregnant every 5 years. Thus always having a kid under 6
2 spend 20 hours a week “looking” for work. since there is no way to verify how much time someone actually spent looking.

Lame easy to bypass rule.

have to have unlimited texting and internet. Obama phones don’t provide that

Well, then, these people are being deprived! It's a racist conspiracy to not give them unlimited texting and internet on their free phones!

Job searches, to count for federal participation rate, must be monitored at your states one stop center. If your region is allowing recipients to do flippant job searches, state and federal monitoring should pick this up and should be fined. There is alot of oversight, but regional workforce boards must meet participation (50% single families and 90% two parent families) to get paid. I get there is deception out there. Participation is what its all about..mc

Depends on who you get your obama phone from. Some will allow you to pay a small fee for extras including extra minutes.

Get an obama phone with a sim card and you can remove the sim and stick it in any unlocked phone you want.

so.. they have to spend 20 hours at the search center per week? or they have to turn in documentation that they spend the required time looking?

I never got a straight answer as to why every AFB chow hall I’ve seen had an ambulance parked in front.

Some neighbors had us over for dinner the other night - steak and crab. My wife said “They must be back on unemployment again”.

You are clearly knowledgeable about the program and potential abuses. In my state, however, the only food stores that are eligible to participate as SNAP vendors are ones that have the state supplied (or approved) equipment to read the barcode (there are a few exceptions in extremely remote areas). Now some of the farmer’s markets are accepting SNAP but this is only possible because of the wireless EBT terminals the state distributes to the vendors. The same requirements apply to distribution of EBT cash benefits but as you say, once they have the cash in their hands there are no controls.

IN minnesota a simple credit card terminal is used in some locations..

Now they are making some changes..

this might shock you..

They are going to put the recipients name on the card..

And in this state they already have the name on the card and are planning to include the photo from the driver’s license or state-issued ID on the next go-round. No problem for illegals, there are many with driver’s licenses and IDs from this state. The state does check the immigration status of the primary account holder but merely excludes illegal adults from benefits, not the kids. But obviously the parent(s) do eat from the grocery bag just like the kids.

“Each MRE provides an average of 1,250 calories”

That’s because MREs were intended for men doing heavy stressful things. Not welfare slugs sitting around doing nothing.

The only “food aid” that should be available is 3 MRE’s a day. Period. If it’s good enough for our troops it’s good enough for them.

I say give them a bag of rice and another of beans. That along with government cheese and powered milk is all they need.
