Former UNC President Bill Friday says Andy Griffith died this morning in Dare County. Friday, who is a close friend of the actor, confirmed that to WITN News.

Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie confirms to WITN News that an ambulance went to Andy Griffith's home at 7 a.m. this morning.

The sheriff says he is checking to get more information on the condition of the person who the ambulance was called for.

The 86-year-old Griffith lives on Roanoke Island, not far from the Lost Colony, a play he performed in right after high school.

Griffith was born in Mount Airy, and is most known for his role as "Andy Taylor" from 1960 to 1968.

He sold all that ‘character’ crap down the river when he did a spot for Obamacare. I’m not special. I’m just not a boob.

"My favorite Andy Griffith movie. The scene with the “saluting” toilets in the latrine still cracks me up!"

That's from 'No Time for Sergeants'.

Sorry, but with Mr. Griffith I don’t even think the “good intentions” were there. But he was a great actor because he was nothing at all like the Andy Taylor character that made him famous.

I had the same experience with “The Jack Benny Show”. I used to love it then began watching it on some rerun channel and it didn’t seem very good.

Then after a week or so, it got better and better. I think you sort of have to get into the feel of the show again.

BTW, “Rockford Files” was one of the all time greats. James Garner was another Hollywood liberal. I just ignore that and enjoyed the show.

Now if they are really in your face about it like Jane Fonda or Sean Penn, then it is just too hard to ignore their politics.

He may have not been so much for obamacare as he was for promoting Obama as a politician. So did Ron Howard, but was Don Knotts into politics?

After Andy Griffith received $2 million from Obama to advertise Obamacare, good riddance.
How many old people trusted him, and Andy duped them into supporting Obama, the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN CHIEF.
May Andy's first face he meets after the resurrection be Obama as he's thrown into the Lake of Fire!

it is so very sad that he never, in his later years, learned to love the country and it’s values that he so well portrayed in his younger years. So very, very sad indeed.

“Well Golly, aren’t you special. Only the very shallow, ignorant person would exclude himself from basic civilities based solely on another’s political leanings.”

Sorry, but I don’t have a soft spot in my heart for tyrants or the useful idiots/tools who willingly allow themselves to be used to advance their ends. Reminds me of the North Koreans wailing in public at the loss of ‘dear leader’.

We have to take into account his full body of work to honestly assess what he was. Yes he was a talented actor. He was so good he had us all fooled. We projected that kind heart of Andy Taylor onto Griffith. But a more true to life rendition was his character Lonesome Rhodes. And later in life he did a movie called “Gramps” where he played a sinister old man. Given how truly EVIL obamacare is, I imagine this character came naturally to him. His denouement was the obama campaign and obamacare commercials. He willfully supported foisting this on the Americans who loved or trusted him. To do so indicates he was either senile or wicked.

RIP, but Neal Bortz today described Griffith as “A flaming liberal,” despite his TV persona.

“I don’t care if he was a Lib. He was a great talent”

Same reasoning used to elect Obama

The black and white Andy Griffith show was some of the best TV ever made. I’ll always think of Andy Griffith as Andy Taylor. His politics were disappointing, but this is one case where it won’t affect my enjoyment of his work.

Stated elsewhere:

"The strain of worrying whether Obamacare would survive must have taken its toll."

I always got a kick out of this parody.
