If BHO is reelected, Time for Texas to Secede (Vanity)
July 7, 2012 | no dems

Being a native-born Texan, it is my understanding that Texas is the only State in the Union that can legally secede from the Union, because it was once a Republic on it's own. (The Republic of Texas.)

Now, someone help me out here: Is that a fact? If so, I'm calling on all Texas FReepers to join me in laying the groundwork to make it happen if Barack Obama is reelected. What do we need to do to start a Secession Movement, and where do we begin? If you're not a Texan, you don't understand the Texas mind-set. If BHO is reelected, I guarantee you that Texas would vote 60% - 40% FOR Secession. Even Governor Perry has talked about Texas seceding. LET'S FRIGGIN' DO IT!!!

“We still have The Republic of Texas Constitution of 1845. Don’t say it’ outdated.”

Actually, it was replaced by the 1876 Constitution because the earlier constitution was implemented when Texas swore allegiance to the Confederacy—basically, it was a “Confederate Constitution,” enacted when Texas joined the Confederacy. When the Confederacy lost then Texas needed a new constitution to re-join the Union.

Immediately after the Civil War, a new constitution was imposed on Texas when the post-war state military commander intervened at the state constitutional convention to force Gov E.J. Davis, democrat, to reject slavery and accept Republican demands for emancipation.

For most white, ex-confederate Texans, the new constitution represented defeat and humiliation, was regarded as imposed by outside forces, i.e., Radical Republicans. (Radical in the sense they wanted immediate emancipation, not a gradual implementation).

When Democrats gained control of state government in 1872 and 1873, their first priority became to draft a new constitution.

By the fall of 1875, 90 Texans gathered in Austin to finalize a new constitution for the state.

The largest group of delegates at the convention were known as the Grange, an organization of farmers, committed to a slogan of “retrenchment and reform” for state government.

The new constitution favored a restrictive constitution of great length; they returned to the tradition of Jacksonian democracy, reinstating the long ballot and shortening the terms of office for elected officials.

Ref. you map in your Post #92: I’m glad to see that many of the battleground States in the 2012 Election don’t have that many “immigrants”. Obama’s latest “Amnesty” dictate, via Executive Order, so he can get the Mexican vote, won’t help him much in Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. Not that many Mexicans there. In Florida, the Cuban vote will offset the Mexican vote. In Texas, the Conservative vote will offset the Mexican vote; same goes for Arizona. California is a lost cause anyhow, let California vote for whomever they want. And in Nevada, the Mexican vote will be offset by the Mormon vote; same goes for Colorado and Utah. So, Obama’s Amnesty won’t help him much on November 6th.

Lol, I fly a flag to let people know where I’m living at the moment. There is no Navajo Nation flag, so Arizona it was. After spending the afternoon on this thread, I’m changing it back, just because.

To put it another way. I live in Texas, because I love Texas. I love my little corner of Texas in particular. But whereas nationality is like marriage, state citizenship is like having a mistress.

America is my country. If I were ever to leave America, I’d have to get a divorce before I could remarry, and I’ll go to jail if I have two wives at once.

Texas is home to me, and I do believe it will be my home forever. However, it’s purely voluntary. No divorce is required if I ever decide that Louisiana is sexier. And, there is no law that says I can’t have two mistresses.

You can put a sentence on your home page telling people where you temporarily reside. Your flag should be the Lone Star.

I’m glad you changed it. Otherwise, I’d to have to harass you ... relentlessly. ;p

While you are using analogies, did you fail to mention that you and rest of us paying tax payers are bitches of the US Tax code?

Will secession happen? Probably not in the next 25 years, but I for one am sick and tired of this socialist state where the entitlement crowd is firmly entrenched on left hind teat of the tax payer. A conservative country based on God fearing folks who work hard appeals to me. Back in the old days, if you didn't work, you didn't eat. And those who were disabled relyed on their loving families to take care of them. Not the GD US Federal government.

You are joking right? Texan National Guard protecting ExxonMobile’s contracts in Qatar? And ATT left out of serving rest of the 49 States? It would be those corporations who move OUT of Texas.

Texas could ratify treaties closely aligning itself to United States in defense, much as we do with Canada. As far as watching corporations leave..... Watch what happens when we drop the corporate tax rate by half. They'll be flocking here.

Not concerned; I just know my fellow Texans... '-)

Believe me, Texans have enough resident firepower to "deport-in-place" any objectionable wetbacks foolish enough to play "Santa Ana" again.

Read what again? Did you not state “Wyoming barely outproduces tiny Vermont”? I can’t find anywhere “I clearly said that Wyoming out produced Vermont”.

I am not about to blow my time looking up Wyoming statistics, but I know its the biggest producer of coal and a significant producer of oil and gas, $12Bil? Maybe like our other FRiend, you misplaced a zero or 2.

I don’t think the marriage analogy works.

Re: the poligamy aspect - Our law permits you to have dual citizenship (in the U.S. and another country.) No divorce required.

Re: the mistress aspect - Our law says you’re a citizen of the state wherein you reside and that you can have only one primary residence.

I live in San Antonio. Have for over 46 years. And I do not brag. My mama raised me better than that. And my grandmother would have made me cut my own switch.

When was the last time the Mexican military won a battle?

They will never defeat the drug cartels.

Mexican “government” (loosely used term) is so thoroughly corrupt they have ruined all hope of their culture flourishing.

Let me remind you that there are 2+ civilian firearms per man, woman and child in Texas. And the largest US military base plus several Air Force Bases in Texas. And the bomb factory.

Forget Mexico militarily.

Wyoming’s GDP is $38b. Sorry to disillusion you, but that is it. Which is indeed $12b more than Vermont.

Really; then I guess somethin like the following is exactly one of the not-benefits of State Citizenship that you don't get/lose upon moving:

NM Constitution, Art XXI, Section 1. [Religious toleration; polygamy.]

Perfect toleration of religious sentiment shall be secured, and no inhabitant of this state shall ever be molested in person or property on account of his or her mode of religious worship. Polygamous or plural marriages and polygamous cohabitation are forever prohibited.

That's about as close to outlawing having mistresses as you can get without allowing some truly creepy big-brother statism.

Lol, in reality it would be like the War of 1860 ;) when Texas tried to secede. “Closely aligning”... sure!
