Severin: Either Romney pulls out the knife or he loses
WTTK-FM | 7/10/12

Posted on 07/10/2012 3:06:35 PM PDT by pabianice

Jay Severin -- one of Romney's biggest supporters and a professional campaign manager -- spoke about the state of the presidential campaign. After first acknowledging that Independents do not like negative ads, he stated that unless Romney starts fighting as hard against Obama as Obama is against him, Romney loses. It's that clear to so many people on the right. Why Romney is being Mr. Rogers is open to debate. Romney is of the 50s and 60s generation, when the idea of an Obama in public office would have been regarded as either a stupid joke or alternate universe science fiction. Romney diesmbowled his Republican opponents but now apparently is being told by his team that he has to stay Mr. Nice "so as not to alienate voters."

I think Severin is correct. This election will mean either the death of the United States or its comeback.

Why Romney is being Mr. Rogers.

I’ll tell you why (as I did in the Presidential Primaries): RINOS hate conservatives more than they hate socialists/liberals, their fellow ‘travelers’.

That’s WHY. CONSERVATIVES would actually reverse course, while RINOS and liberals are essentailly headed in the same direction (although on slightly different courses think of liberals heading east off the cliff, RINOS head north-east, Conservatives head West back from the cliff!

Actually, he does drink Coke, LOL.

Maybe Coke ZERO. Certainly not the "Real Thing".

I would like to see him issue his school records, draft records, passport records, social security application, and the like. He doesn’t have to accuse O of anything, just make his own public.

"It is racism to patronize a black candidate. You want to get out of the racist mode you have to attack him like he was a white Conservative!

I don't think Romney can do that. "

I don't think there are many Congressional Republicans who can do it either--there are a few--Allen West does a fair job, but then he's black.

. . . and we are back to the same old problem, spineless, pseudo-conservative Republicans and RINOs who are unwilling to stand up for what they are supposed to believe in.

Did you see this? ROTFL!

Romney will attack Obamugabe all in due time.

Right now it is called time biding. The election is very near in time for those of us who think and care about the preservation for our Republic. We constitute less than 30% of the electorate.

30% of the electorate doesn’t give a damn whether we have a Republic or a Dictatorship, as long as that dictator is a Democrat.

40% of the electorate is persuadable, and the vast vast majority of those people are still in summer mode. Most Joe Average Voter citizens do not start paying attention to the election until after Labor Day.

Romney isn’t hurting himself by his current pacing.

If this were October 10th and not July 10th and Romney wasn’t hitting Obamugabe, then I’d be worried.

If you wanted a knifefighter, you probably should have picked another candidate. And probably a different field.

It's is July. Obama has more money. He has been outspending Romney 3 to 1 since the end of the primary season.

The money gap is narrowing somewhat, but Obama will still be able to raise more money from Hollywood, the unions, etc. Obama is trying to define Romney now. It is a big gamble as he is committing a large portion of his resources setting up offices around the country and putting out his political ads. People like Karl Rove think he is making a big mistake, but it may be out of desperation given the various polls and the economy.

Romney has a choice to make. Go full bore now before the conventions and before the majority of the public is even paying attention. Usually, that begins after the conventions and Labor Day. Or does Romney husband his growing resources and use them more strategically. So far, Obama has seemingly gained little with his all out offensive.

I know there is plenty of pressure from some Reps and the media talking heads for Romney to strike back hard now. But how much does Romney want to commit to the fray now in terms of resources? Would that be playing into Obama's hands by using up scarce resources at a time when most people are not paying attention. Obama has approved gay marriage. He is unilaterally implementing the Dream Act to give over a million amnesty. Each week brings a new hand grenade to distract and divert attention away from Obama's record on jobs and the economy, the unsustainable national debt, and Obamacare.

If Obama is doing so well, why are a significant number of Dems skipping the convention in NC? How many Dems want Obama to appear with them on the campaign trail? Sorry, but I can't get too exercised by Romney's strategy at this point. November is a long way off.

John Wooden: "It's not so important who starts the game but who finishes it."

“Be quick, but don’t hurry.”

“Romney needs to hit back using humor. Needle Obama about his incompetence, his secrecy, etc.’

I couldn't agree more. I believe Obama will get markedly angry if joked about or ridiculed. He takes himself entirely too seriously (’we are who we've been waiting for’ etc.) and I don't believe he will be able laugh at himself if he is laughed at.

Yeah, he does drink “real” coke. Also he claims that when they want to get “wild” they put vanilla extract in a glass of coke.

His flashes of anger are all an act to raise the hope that he might actually lose it. But it won't happen. He has ice water in his veins.

Romney’s knife only works on conservatives, not fellow leftists.

I think Severin is correct. This election will mean either the death of the United States or its comeback.

Given the choices, I think this election will mean either quick death or slow death.

Romney seems to be a gentleman like McCain. Soon he will tell us we have nothing to fear from Obamas 2nd term, and that Obama is an honorable man.
