**Exclusive**

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

MORE

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

This may be just a trial balloon, but I had a hunch that she wanted it after her GOP Women event. If it will clinch zero’s defeat, I can live with it.

I think it is a horrible choice too. He needs to choose a conservative.

Per toe sucker Morris, Rubio has been a done deal for 6 months.

“The GOP needs a solid, pro-life social conservative as its veep candidate”

Ok - I’ll go with that... but I like Christie’s spontaneity and passion.

If the base doesn't realize that our country hangs in the balance (so as to stay home on election day), then we are already doomed.

Furthermore, a Veep doesn't do sh!t once the election is over. He/she is all about the campaign.

Christie would tear a gaping hole in Obama.

I don't care for his politics, but I admire his courage and his willingness to speak the truth as he sees it.

A pro-abort VP candidate? If true, the Republican Party has sunk to new lows.

If true, she'd just be mirroring her boss.

As much as I respect Ms. Rice’s service under W. (and I do, a great deal), didn’t she support OBAMA in 2008???

Such a a terrible choice that one wonders if this isn’t just something leaked to Drudge in order to make the real choice seem good by comparison?

Isn’t this the guy afraid even Portman is too closely associated to GWB to select him?

Condi is a smart gal but as a VP choice that would be a disaster.

That would work.
You knew he had to do SOMETHING to guarantee an Obama win.
I thought he might come out dressed in his underwear,
but this will do just fine.

Geez.

Another freaking RINO. And an inept, pro-Choice one to boot.

Romney’s TRYING to make conservatives go third party. Or leave the “President” line blank. He must not want to win.

Obama for for four more years, anyone?

“Too liberal, and she won’t bring in enough conservative votes.”

She is in California. With all the cities going bankrupt and Condi doing the California swing, at worst it costs Obama money because he would have to campaign there.

The way to destroy liberalism is to bankrupt it.

I can vote for Mitt, not sure I can vote for her...she's all over the place.

All Mitt has to do is pick a conservative to win, and it looks like he's destined to screw it up. It looks like the lessons of the primary and 2010 are lost on him.

She would be a disaster; can’t make a decision if her life depends on it, or rather other people’s lives. She’s liberal, and has NOTHING going for her in politics. That said I think she’s a great person and I like her, but not in politics and not this time around.

I don’t think she formally endorsed McCain but I couldn’t find anything on Google saying she ever endorsed Obama, and that would go against about everything we know about her.
