Reid:Taxes must be raised to avoid cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate's Democratic leader insisted yesterday that if House Republicans desperately want to avert automatic cuts to the military, they have to compromise and make tax increases part of any solution.

In a biting letter to the GOP members of the House Armed Services Committee, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he would like to come up with an alternative "sooner rather than later" to the $1.2 trillion across-the-board cuts in domestic and military programs that kick in Jan. 2. But Reid argued that it will only happen if the GOP relents on closing tax loopholes to raise revenue.

"Given your concern about sequestration, I would encourage you to focus your energy on convincing Republicans that forging a balanced compromise that protects the middle class is more important than adhering to the Tea Party's rigid, extreme ideology," Reid wrote.

Let the cuts go through. Let the democrats own it, see how many military vote for them this November. Reid just thinks he can play chicken and win no matter what.

Do what I say or watch us destroy the Military.

What a PATRIOT this old turd is.

They should hang the old POS as a Traitor.

Blackmailing America is his game and the Republicans allowed him to get in a position to do it.

Thanks a lot Mitch and John Boehner.

I have just one question for these esteemed members of Congress; At what point will you be satisfied with percent of taxes collected from Taxpayers?

As far as I can tell they will never, ever be satisfied.

So the next question is when will the American Taxpayer be so dissatisfied with the percentage of taxes that they are required to pay out of the yearly income that they will revolt again? We didn’t like taxation without representation, and taxation with representation seems to be even worse. What next?

By now everyone affected by these tax increases on the ‘rich’ should have their ducks in a row.

Judge Learned Hand

“Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as
possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which best pays the
treasury. There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one’s taxes.
Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister
in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone
does it, rich and phioor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any
public duty to pay more than the law demands.”

It won’t take very long for the government to realize that history will repeat.
It should be known that at the beginning of a dynasty, taxation yields a large revenue from small assessments. At the end of the dynasty, taxation yields a small revenue from large assessments.

Like with Gore, the military will be disenfranchised. Their votes will not be counted.

Go ahead with cuts. It will be good for the public sector to bring it down to ‘just fine’ like the private sector.
