Social Security Administration Explains Plan to Buy 174,000 Hollow-Point Bullets

(CNSNews.com) – The Social Security Administration posted a blog on Thursday to explain why it was planning to purchase 174,000 hollow point bullets.

SSA posted a "Request for Quote for Ammunition" on the FedBizOps.gov website on Aug. 7. The request listed the commodity that SSA desired as ".357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition." The quantity listed was "174 TH."

The SSA’s Office of the Inspector General’s said it posted a new blog on the agency’s website, “Beyond the Numbers,” “as we strive to be a transparent and accountable government organization for all of our stakeholders.

“With those goals in mind, we thought it would be appropriate to address recent media reports regarding the organization’s purchase of ammunition for our special agents’ duty weapons,” the blog post states.

The blog states that the SSA has 295 special agents who work in 66 offices across the United States.

“These investigators have full law enforcement authority, including executing search warrants and making arrests,” the blog post states. “Our investigators are similar to your State or local police officers.

“They use traditional investigative techniques, and they are armed when on official duty,” the blog post states.

Concern expressed in some media reports about the type of ammunition ordered by the agency is unfounded, the blog states, explaining that the .357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacked hollow point pistol ammunition is “standard issue for many law enforcement agencies” and is appropriate for the work agents perform.

“Our special agents need to be armed and trained appropriately,” the blog post states. “They not only investigate allegations of Social Security fraud, but they also are called to respond to threats against Social Security offices, employees, and customers.”

The blog also links to another post about a fight that broke out near an SSA office in Massachusetts that required action by law enforcement officials.

“SSA is processing more applications than ever, which means more traffic in SSA office,” the blog states. “Employee and visitor safety is the highest priority for OIG, which, together with the Federal Protective Services and local law enforcement, has jurisdiction over SSA workplaces.”

Prior to the blog being posted, CNSNews.com had asked the agency specific questions about its ammunition order. Although some of those questions were addressed by the information provided in the blog, the agency did not say why it needed 174,000 bullets and if that quantity was customary or had increased from previous orders.

It is time to stop ALL of these agency police from the Railroad Police to the SS. I don’t even think the FBI is Constitutional much less the others.

You and I both know those aren’t practice rounds.

While NATO troops are forbidden HP rounds in international conflicts, there is no such restriction against domestic use upon citizens of the U.S.

On the other hand, Federal agency budgets must be fully expended at the end of the fiscal year soon to come, or the followinkg year’s budget will be cut. I’m left to wonder at the justification - and the decision maker for all these seemingly random alphabet agencies - for spending it all on er ah social use ammunition. Like what they’d load up on if they anticipated hostile interaction with members of the general public.

Winning The Future!!!

The Border guards use bean bag guns and are advised to duck and evade when confronted by a Mexican gangster.

Yet, the SS folks are issued hollow point bullets???

Third question, how often are they required to practice?

Fourth question, why do they need hollow-point bullets for practice or to qualify?

The government earlier this year bought up something 450 million rounds of 40 cal hollow point ammo and then this month they ordered another 750 million rounds, so you just have to wonder what are they up to.

Stocking up in advance of ammo restrictions?

The biggest gun nuts are our Federale Gov’t. We have all kinds of Fed agencies with armed idiots. I know the Ag department has armed chicken inspectors and enforcers. And the ATF is the worst going by their botched raid on the Branch Davidians. I know there are good ATF agents but overall it’s a lousy stupid agency

Almost exactly what I’ve seen happening and believed for 2yrs+ now. Who knew it could happen to us, this fast?

93% of America has no clue. And so many “diehards” on FR are just skipping the vote against him/for Romney for mere “downticket” choices. If he gets a 2nd term, nothing “downticket” will matter one damned bit.

Forget the Dec 21st, 2012 Mayan Calendar end-times crap; Nov 7th is far, far more important...

Was this article ever posted in it entirety?

Hollow points are made for killing only and not for practice.
Yup.

Personally I can see a nationwide campaign to get millions of Americans used to the idea of wearing body armor, I don’t mean bulky flak vests, lightweight concealed outerwear with ballistic material sewn inside.

There are quite a few companies around that sell nice looking clothes with such material, I buy remnants of ballistic cloth like Kevlar and I sewn them into my Carhart double knee work pants, makes them last a lot longer and are also good for protection when I ride my motorcycles.

Back in March of this year, Homeland Security purchased 450 million rounds of .40-caliber hollow points. The National Weather Service just closed a bid solicitation for 16,000 rounds of .40 cal. S&W hollow points. NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement has said the bid mistakenly identified NOAA's National Weather Service as the requesting office, so hey there's no probem, "it will be used by the 63 NOAA Fisheries enforcement personnel in their firearms qualifications and training." B.S.! That glorified government security cops are being issued massive ammounts of high-dollar hollow points is disturbing. These are not practice rounds, they are for kill shots - you know it and I know it despite the press releases that chaulk it all up to training. Only fools ruefuse to connect the dots. They'll be arming the postal service soon, because they know when (not if) the money implodes, anyone in a government job will be charged with putting down an insurrection.

Why do our Government, non-military employees have ammunition specifically forbidden for our military men and women to use during a war?

You practice with what you’re going to shoot with in your carry gun. How else will you know if you have a feed problem?

The Loyalist (Tory) militia needs munitions and arms to fight the rebels. They aren’t armed now with little more than an obamaphone.
