At the end of last week, Barack Obama held a 3-point lead over Mitt Romney in Rasmussen's Daily Tracking poll. Romney, however, is enjoying a modest bounce from the RNC convention and today, has reversed the numbers and now leads Obama by 3 points. In other words, a six point swing to Romney during convention week.
I should note, however, that Rasmussen's tracking poll is based on a three-day average, so most of the interviews in today's poll were conducted before Romney formally accepted the GOP nomination on Thursday. That night, featuring speeches by Romney, Sen. Marco Rubio, Clint Eastwood and personal testimonials was the strongest night of the convention.
The full extent of Romney's bounce won't likely be known until Monday and Tuesday, just as the Democrats are set to begin their convention in Charlotte.

Isn’t that about what McCain did? Still a long way to go, and more shenanigans to defeat.
More than ever, I say this election is Romney's to lose.
Romney has more campaign cash than McCain, he is not short, bald and ugly, is much more pro-business than McCain, and has a proven successful executive experience record versus zero for McCain.
I have a hunch we might get 300+ EV on November 6th.
McCain lost it when he suspended his campaign to go back to Washington, during the whole TARP thing, and did..........nothing.
I expect them to create more division between rich and poor and more dislike of business. That's not going to go over well.

McCain suspended his campaign, and never restarted it.
McCain was consistently polling ahead of Obama until the “financial crisis” and the suspension of his campaign. It was all over after that.

McCain blew the election in the first five minutes of the first debate. I remember the question: “What would you do about the financial crisis?” He should have proposed market-based solutions, opposed TARP (which was hugely unpopular) and said “bankers who make bad decisions with other people’s money should lose their jobs.” Instead he fumbled around with some incoherent gibberish. I knew then it was over. He went into the debate with a lead, and came out in the hole. The whole ridiculous thing about “suspending the campaign” didn’t help.
But don’t underestimate the importance of the debates. I truly think that 0bama, Reagan and Kennedy all won their elections at the debates. Romney needs to bring his “A” game because he’s playing against the panel as well as 0bama.
They had Obama sweating it and the wheels were coming off prior to that fateful September 15 weekend. Obama thought Palin was going to steal the young white female vote right out of his basket, with the insulting “lipstick on a pig” and sordid fish-stinking comments revealing his turmoil.

To which end, has it ever occurred to you that, maybe, just maybe, the Democrat functionaries pulled the plug on Fannie and Freddie when they were told?
The failure was apparently obvious months earlier. Or they probably could've kept up the facade past election day.
But, for some reason, they decided to take Fannie & Freddie down on September 6 -- immmediately after the conventions and at the very beginning of the election season.

McCain did WORSE than nothing during the TARP fiasco. He managed to drag 0bama into acting presidential when they did the foolish WH meeting.
That, and his prohibiting his campaign and Sarah from criticizing anything about Zero, clinched the loss.
By the way, the layoffs also coincided with the realization by Main Street that a Marxist was about to become president.
I agree with your analysis. His refusal to let Palin be herself, together with his stupid stunt during the meltdown lost him a lead that he never would have had if it had not been for Palin. I think Obama remembers, too, and will try to engineer some kind of crisis to try to get people to rally around him. Whether it will work this time remains to be seen. I don’t doubt that Romney is capable of doing something stupid, but he is more determined than McCain was. He also has going for him that people would vote for anything that breathes over 4 more years of Obama, so Romney might win in spite of mistakes he might make.
