This is exactly what I was suggesting a few weeks ago.

Romney (Republicans) needs to turn the tables on Obama and pick fights like this that unite Republicans and fracture the Democrat coalitions.
Now the progressives on MSNBC will be asking why Obama is not supporting the ‘teachers’ against mean old Romney's attacks. Posts like today's Weekly Standard (Free ThinkerNY post here) taunting Dems on Obama’s silence is perfect.

Unfortunately Republicans have been great at jumping into traps laid by Dems instead of trapping them.

RE :”you must not have kids, or else you believe that these poor teachers should endure the dangerous environment theyre forced to work in, w/o getting combat pay...???
if the parents care about those kids, theyll pony up the bucks...

HA-HA, you sound just like me.

You are right. America's future depends on these poor underpaid overworked (they only get 4 months vacation and holidays) teachers.

Maybe its time for a special public education tax ‘for the children’. Obama already has us paying for most of their college with his give-away 'student loan' program. A great investment.

agreed... my 2 sisters own 2 homes each.. they work 4 days a week, they have summers off to spend at their vacation homes on the lake... they make each about 78,000 a year.. they will each retire in 5 years at a wonderful pension rate...

I’m paying for their wonderful lifestyle with my taxes..if there is ever any talk about even a 2 % increase in their health insurance contribution, they start screaming : how could the state do this to the “kids”...

it annoys the h*ll out of me... so much so I have learned to stay silent about these issues with them.. trust me, if they only knew what I really think... I doubt I’d be able to see them anymore. I don’t lie to them, I just state I disagree and we leave it at that.

Where I live in Maryland a typical property tax bill is $6K and the tax $$ breakdown says that most of it goes to our public schools, and we pay income tax to state and county at the same time. That is another $6K. OMalley says that is not enough.

O malley just bragged about our *schools* in beginning his DNC speech last week.

Keep it up Mitt! Show us that you have a strong spine! Stand up to the Teacher’s Unions! 400,000 Chicago school children are counting on you!

Free Birth control/Abortion voters. How about gays?

Rahm Emanuel? His good friend Soetero is going to throw him under the bus, back the strikers, and lose at least half a dozen close-call states.

Orrrr...

Soetero will join arms with him, and hold Illinois, counting on the non-thinking straight-ticket Demwit voters to carry him through the election.

but most likely...

Soetero will make another of his long line of ad hominem attacks on Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and all other Republicans.

Option three of course.

Thanks sickoflibs.

Ahhh, Public Schools....

“You can’t make Socialists out of individualists — children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society which is coming, where everyone is interdependent.”

-John Dewey, the father of Progressive Education

Right from the mouth of the Piece of Crap that started it all...

The local news showed a lot of kids being upset about this.

The 90% who are thrilled were too busy playing video games to contribute to the report.

The teachers union boss is a real slimy witch. Karen Lewis, she could go as Jabba the Hutt for Halloween without needing a costume.

My mom was a teacher. She’s surprised that teachers who are paid $76,000, per year, demand a raise.

“...nakedly stated their intentions....”

They always did and do.

Our side just never believed they’d seriously pull it off.

Until 2009, that is.

Sorta like locking the barn door after the local Democrat stole your horse and mule.

No,sorry, Romney was right. This ties directly back to Obama and his crime syndicate -- and their direct ties to the Big Labor Union Thugs. And when you're talking about Chicago Teachers, poor as you say, ain't it but Union Thug is.

Chicago Teachers have the highest average pay in the nation. Now with certain data factored in New York tops out as number one. However, that doesn't include NY's higher cost of living, which puts Chicago Teachers back at number one. But yet the teachers want 'More'!

Add to that, the fact that Chicago already spends more money per pupil than any other place in the USA and the end result is a high school graduation rate of 40%! But yet the teachers want 'More'!

So even it is a 'local issue', it's a 'local issue' like Wisconsin was. This local issue again shows every working stiff in America whose barely scraping by under Obama how greedy and self-serving 'Obama's Unions' are:

The children, parents, and taxpayers be damned - We Want More! So get a THIRD JOB you cheapskates and give us your money - or else!
I feel dirty defending Rahm, but these 'poor teachers' in Chicago are scum. And their union leader Karen Lewis is the biggest POS(scum) walking the earth. Or in her case waddling is more like it.

in some ways, to support Rahm

Wisconsin was a big win for us. It is perfectly appropriate that he commented. And if Rahm is in line with Governor Walker on this, so be it.

Hi guys.

Want to hear a good one. I read it earlier in the comment section of the Sun-Times. It was an article about the strike. The comment was made by ... a Chicago Teacher and she said (paraphrasing).

'You people criticizing the teachers pay don't know what you're talking about. The average starting pay for a Chicago Teacher is only $47,000. They wouldn't make $71,000 until they've been teaching for eleven years, or nine years with a Masters degree, blah-blah-blah....'
Oh those POOR SOULS!!! A starting salary on 'only' $47K and then -- oh the humanity! -- had to work for an entire ELEVEN YEARS until their pay JUMPED by $24,000 (66.2%) to $71K!! My calculator says that's an average $2,182 a year, or 6.02% divided evenly.

Now I sure worked in companies more than eleven years and my pay never jumped like that! Yes, I got raises and promotions, but my responsibilities increased accordingly. I didn't just have to sit there and count calender years.

I couldn't believe that 'teacher' was actually trying to get sympathy. Then I did believe it, after all she was in the teachers union. No common sense required.

Romney should have said that the federal government and presidential candidates shouldn’t be involved in education, since that violates the 10th Amendment.

While I was in the navy, in Iraq, I had been in the navy for 19 years, and my salary was about $3800, per month.
