Sen. Graham: Obama move on defense layoff notices 'patently illegal'
By Jeremy Herb - 10/01/12 02:45 PM ET

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says that he will do anything he can to block the Obama administration from reimbursing defense contractors for severance costs if the firms don’t send layoff notices to employees.

The Obama administration issued guidance Friday that said defense firms’ costs would be covered if they have to layoff workers due to canceled contracts under the across-the-board cuts set to take effect Jan. 2.

The layoff notices have become a politically charged issue because they could have come just four days ahead of the election because of a 60-day notice required by federal law for mass layoffs.

Graham and other Republicans were livid after the Obama administration issued the guidance on Friday telling contractors that their legal costs would be covered due to canceled contracts under sequestration, but only if they did not issue layoff notices before sequestration occurs — and before the November election.

“I will do everything in my power to make sure not one taxpayer dollar is spent reimbursing companies for failure to comply with WARN Act,” Graham told The Hill in a phone interview Monday. “That is so beyond the pale — I think it’s patently illegal.”

I think that all patriots and conservatives will wake up Thursday morning with a hell of a hangover and tired from a loss of sleep from the nightmare they watched Wednesday night when they realized the fact that the Republican party signed our nation’s death warrant when they put “the fix” in to have Romney represent them in this political race.

I will have my asbestos underwear on beginning tomorrow night but in the end (excuse the pun) all will see what a weak and naive candidate Romney is.

He has never lived or experienced life in any other social level below opulence and can’t possibly think in terms below that level. Furthermore, he has never had to “street fight” an actual battle...and this is his first exposure to “street fighting” and will both lose the fight and embarrass all conservatives who backed him in the effort.

Tomorrow night will be a horrible thing to witness but I will force myself to watch it.

So????

It isn't the first thing he has done in office that was 'patently illegal' and, if re-elected, he will ignore inert Congress and Courts and implement whatever he wants.

If this is handled by the GOP like everything else has been, this bit of bluster from Graham will be the end of it. He’s swung his purse, now he’ll quietly sit back down to catch his breath until the next outrage.

In truth, I think the GOP likes the many precedents that have been set by this administration and Reid’s Senate. They’ve given the GOP many, many new toys and workarounds to play with should they ever regain the presidency/senate.

Yes, and if congress actually controlled the purse strings as it’s supposed to do, the executive branch wouldn’t have all this money to throw around.

Instead, they shovel money hand over fist in Obama’s direction, then whine when its abused.

What surrogates?

Surely you do not believe that McCain, Graham, Boehner,or McConnell are surrogates.

Certainly they should be, but I haven’t heard a word from the Speaker in a long time McConnell is in bed with harry Reid, this is the first I have heard from Little Lindsey and it is horse dung,he will do nothing.

Romney is running without backing from the party RINO’s that picked him.

Despite the melodrama it’s just going to be a debate and Romney has been in plenty. Guess we will see.

Graham:"Obama move on defense layoff notices 'patently illegal' "

Then why isn't he put in JAIL! I'm SICK if hearing "it is illegal" or "it is unconstitutional" ... So what? Nobody does anything about it. I wonder why there are laws, and even wonder why there is a Constitution, people "break" the law, as in this case and NOTHING HAPPENS. Graham is a lawyer... File a lawsuit... Have him arrested...DO SOMETHING. Don't keep pointing out to me he or Holder broke the law... He'll, I know that and I'm not a lawyer. So to Lindsey and all the others pointing out the illegality and unconstitutional acts... Save your breath. If you aren't going to do something about it, then just shut up. I don't need to be reminded over and over about the corruptness if our government. It makes me sick ... And I don't need to get "sicker" !!!

yeah, i know...

You mean why isnt Eric Holder pursuing charges against his master? You need to ask?

In this case it sounds like the employees can sue the contractors and so Obama claims the Feds will pony up cash to pay them for any claims made on them, only if the automatic budget cuts actually go through. The conventional wisedom is the Rs will surrender on somethjing to avoid these cuts.

My question is : is this a credible promise to the contractors?

Are they just doing this because they are intimidated?
