Mitt Romney was declared by over 80% of viewers to have won the first presidential debate as he managed to successfully go on the offensive against an seemingly tired and distant Barack Obama who both failed to defend himself or attack Romney or many of the inaccurate statements Romney made such as that 23 million workers were unemployed (counting part-timers).

However video footage suggests that Romney may have cheated as the rules state that. "No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by any candidate." See the screen grabs and actual footage to make up your own minds on whether Romney cheated by using notes or was it an innocent hanky.

In my opinion, no candidate would risk being caught out cheating in such a public arena, so it probably is just a handkerchief rather than hidden notes that the Democrats are implying.

So the real question that should be asked is why Obama failed to try? Why did he not hold Romney to account? Why did he not even mention Romney writing off 47% of the population?

A conspiracy theory would suggest that for the elite sponsored illusion of democracy to work, the serving class (voters) need to perceive the race to be close, therefore Obama played his role in letting the race tighten up a little in voter perception when the reality for a long time has been that the U.S. in reality is a one party state, just as the UK since the early 1990's has been a one party state which little difference between Labour or Conservative and as we have seen even the Liberal Democrats party of protest as soon as they got a sniff of power, abandoned all of their principles for the trappings of power.

Depends on how that individual studies in class and how much they read. From what we know, Mr. Obama was a C- student who was much more interested in marijuana and socializing with potheads and radicals. Someone at the level who reads vociferously, studies hard and is well-adjusted would know most of what you reference.

After the debate was over, Romney scooped up his notes from the podium and took them with him before he stepped out to greet his family on stage. Obama didn't bother but one of his lackeys DID come back and gather up Obama’s from his podium. It was a very smart thing for Romney to do since no telling what mischief could be made if the opposition got hold of them. Obama obviously didn't care enough since he he could only mouth his rhetoric from campaign speeches. Thinking on his feet is the LAST thing he is capable of doing.

It’s a debate - not a test. There’s no such thing as “cheating.” They both answered the questions how they saw fit live in reality.

EXACTLY!!! If Romney did not already know his beliefs about the various topics as they came up, no amount of notes would have helped him, besides, if he did have notes, we would all have seen some kind of shuffling of them to find the ones with the "right" answers on them - and nobody saw that going on. The truth is simply that Obama is an empty suit that can deliver a speech as long as it is played for him on a teleprompter three feet in front of his face. He has no core beliefs - at least not those acceptable by the American public. That's why he was so abysmal at the first debate. I do not foresee any improvement for the next two.

Axelrod has said they would have to reformulate and regroup to better prepare for future debates. This may only work to confuse poor BO even more as he will have to work on too many things at once to sound in control (eye contact, body language, facts, statistics, message, etc.). I anticipate that there will be some new dramatic events that will result in the debates being canceled. They cannot afford THREE failed debates for the "Won".

And by the way - I have made practically the same move when approaching a podium to speak (actually, to preach) - including my hankie, folded in quarters. Guess what... It comes out and looks just like that!
