Another miserable FR Live Thread failure.

Yet again, FR fails the big LIVE THREAD test.

How does what is supposed to be the premiere conservative site on the 'net continue to fail?

I would have expanded on this except it took forever to get this simple post through the muck and molasses that we have to wade thru on night's like this.

I agree. I was not able to get onto the thread once. Same with the Romney / Obama debates.

Am using Wifi at home - never a problem otherwise.

Very, very frustrating not being able to read the threads during the debates.

Not saying avoid. Just pointing out how web services work on a server. It's a tricky thing to get it to work flawlessly 100% of the time, especially in times of high traffic. It's frustrating sure but it's completely understandable considering the work that's involved and the programming that's involved.

Even if this site was load balanced across 10 servers, it's very well possible that there was enough traffic tonight to bog them down. After all, FR is the best place to be for a live thread. A lot of work goes into keeping a server online, esp during high traffic events.

Since you are intent on taking up bandwidth with things grammatical, let's address the misuse of quotation marks with commas and periods.

Perhaps a review of using commas in a series would be helpful as well.

Images don’t matter because they aren’t hosted at FR. Your browser loads the base page from FR, then separately makes connections to wherever the images are.

Well, Jackass, if you want Jim Rob to charge for membership then perhaps he could afford better servers. If you are on FR you are on here for free, unless you donate and that is voluntary. The fact is if everyone who uses this terrific site would donate 5 bucks a month we wouldn’t have slow live feed nights because Jim Rob could afford to buy new and better servers. Do you expect him to buy them out of his own funds, funds he would never recoup because he doesn’t operate this site on a profit basis. People like you whining about FR give me a pain right in the a**. F***ing jerk.

FYI.......

It was sometime in between 2002 and 2003 that Mark Levin called me that and called dibs on any future reference.

I’ve never been able to get in during an election night or major event. That goes back to 2000. I always wait a few hours afterward and spare myself the frustration.

Let’s do that, sure. And let’s review what every adviser of good Internet practices since time immemorial, uhm, advises against, and what takes up a lot of bandwidth:

(1) Threads consisting of nothing more than kvetching,
(2) Posts consisting of nothing more than something like the word: “Agreed”, or “I agree”,
(3) What I already mentioned: illiteracy. Every fool, every drunk in the gutter has an opinion. And every other fool is convinced that the world is anxious to experience the vomit of his ungrammatically expressed opinion.

maybe it would help the discourse if you hacked up a period, question mark or exclamation point you mangy, flea infested feline.

Drunk or sober....that's funny
No offence cat, it is a funny reply

It’s everyone trying to access the site at the same time.

No offense taken. Still, it’s better to be a flea infested cat than a mere hole!

The zot is threatened in any instance of less than perfect loyalty.

That is the FR way.

I would host the pictures on a site like Photobucket instead of hotlinking to an unknown site. The site owners can change the picture you are linking to.

Obviously, you haven't donated enough to FR yet! So, since the problem you're bemoaning is mostly the fault of you and your ilk, why don't you, yet again, make a donation?

It's just like the public schools! The only reason the quality is poor is because we're not spending enough!

Um, traffic isn’t just the people posting. It’s everyone attempting to access over and over again.

Maybe some technical savvy FReepers would be interested in giving JimRob a hand with upping the bandwith and capacity around here. The guy does the best with what he can afford; donating men and material will go a long ways to improve things, and I’m sure some enterprising FReepers would like to flex their technological muscles. Every bit helps.

Ah, you make good points.

How well does memcache work with Perl? At least that’s what script lang this site is largely written in AFAIK.

I’d also wonder if Perl is more server-intensive than something like PHP.
