Great discussions here about the debate last night. Thanks, all.
I hope this vanity post is not a duplicate: I don't think so, but please delete it if so.
I'm curious to hear anyone's reactions the strange, detached, self-absorbed answer Obama gave to the Black man who expressed his disappointment in Obama, and asked a probing question about his plans for a second term.
To me it seemed Obama might have turned off a great many Black voters with such an answer, or simply didn't care about them because he thinks he has them in the bag.
Yeah, I have a thought-what kind of insults would be tossed at a white candidate who was expected to show more concern for the plight of whites as a race, rather than Americans as a whole? I am so sick of identity politics, or at least of identity politics that work every which way except one.
I thought it was interesting how Obama didn’t answer the question at all. I’m not sure whether Mittens should have pointed out the higher unemployment levels for blacks, which Romney didn’t do.
Yes, b:Hussein:O has only contempt for all his “let them eat cellphones and foodstamps” voting base. (And his feelings towards the rest of America are even more hostile.)
He doesn’t have them in the bag?
Obama to the black man asking question : “ am I not being the angry black man enough ? “
Yes, I thought his answer was off point and detached. I didn’t know what to make of it.
And too freeangel: I don’t think he has all of them in the bag this time. He’ll still get most of them, but there have been too many dark faces showing up on TV, on the Web, and in the newspaper taking exception to the Won to make me think he’ll pull as large a vote as in 2008.
I’m not quite sure what you are saying, but the Black man’s questions did not mention race or the exaggerated adverse effects Obama’s policies have had on Blacks. It seemed a personal question for the guy, but one with broader implications, certainly.
Romney answered it with appropriate concern, and attention to the question, not in a pandering way, but Obama’s answer seemed to lack any human connection at all, and even seemed to have an air of contempt.
Obama really wanted to say, “Brotha please! We both know you’re gonna vote for me so stop frontin’!”
Well, you have to recall. If Obama’s family back in Kenya owned a slave (before the British came they owned many) he’d have looked like that man.
The bone I’m picking is not with the questioner, but with politicians (ie Obama, in an ad targeted to blacks-”I’ve got your back, I need you to have mine”)-almost always on the left-who chop this nation into blocs and then pit them against each other, and that’s just when they’re being cynically political. Obama is just garden variety racist and does it.
You pretty well got it right. He beat around the bush (No pun)
His answer was that Black Special Issues are not important. Blacks are a minority and the issues of the majority have precedence this go round. There will be no pandering to blacks.
To me the implication is that blacks who actually heard the statements might not show up to vote. Those who already got their cell phones might not either since they already got theirs
What I thought was great was Romney’s response to the guy. That was symbolically pinning odumbo against the ropes and absolutely pummelling him.
My feelings were that the questioner was being told that he was an idiot for not recognizing all the wonderful things done by obama. Doesn’t matter if any of those things affected the questioner’s life. He should simply be grateful, appreciative and in awe of how wonderful the man in charge is.
Thanks for clearing that up. What you say is true, and that’s what made O’s response a bit puzzling to me.
