WHITE HOUSE INSIDER: Mitt Romney’s Quiet Prayer Amidst The Sound Of Thunder
October 25, 2012 | Ulsterman

Posted on 10/25/2012 11:13:13 PM PDT by Ripliancum

There were some real veteran campaigners backstage and I’m told they were all blown away by this crowd in Colorado. It really was like some big time rock show. Just a huge response for the governor...

...And then something very interesting happens. He moves away from the group of people just a bit. Maybe ten or fifteen feet or so. Just enough to have a little space to himself. And enough people notice that the area gets a lot more quiet, and they are trying to watch the governor without looking like they are watching the governor. They can all kind of tell something is happening right then. It was described as something very peaceful and powerful that came over that backstage area for a moment. And the governor, he lowers his head and his eyes shut tight and you could see him take a slow deep breath and then he lets it out and says quietly, but just loud enough for some to hear, “Lord, if this is your will, please help to make me worthy. Please give me the strength Lord.” And then his eyes open up, and he’s back to smiling and laughing and shaking hands and being the candidate once again.

Please see post #28, and just hush about Romney’s religion.

I agree wholeheartedly with you that mormonism is full of apostasy and man-made gobbeldygook. That’s the way of man. Same, frankly, can be said of much of the Vatican’s embroidery of scripture.

Through the ages, the Lord God Jehovah has used flawed men to accomplish his purpose. He has also turned the hearts of men who seek him.

Give Romney a chance. It’s either him or the muslim, and only one of them is in line with the values we cherish.

If someone wants to vote for Romney - fine.

But DON’T drag the Name, the Truth and the Identity of the trinitarian LORD of the Bible into this political debate.

Until Mitt Romney repents (the word means “to change”), he is not worshipping the God of Truth, he worships a man-made, artificial concept. He worships a god who did NOT create the entire universe and everything in it. He worships a god who used to be a man.

Campaign for Romney? Fine.

Drag down the LORD’s Name and His Truth and destroy and defame Him? No.

These crowds show that people just want America back. Enough of the USSA already.

Who was this Father guy Jesus attributed all of Creation to, and talked to in Gethsemane and on the Cross?

I'd be very cautious about the FIRST Commandment, were I you.

YMMV

The Tri-Unity LORD God is the Creator.

The lds-org does not even admit that God the Father created the universe.

They think he is just the local deity for earth....

...you know, kind of like bible Christians know that satan is just the temporary localized “god of this world”.... for the time-being.

The God of the Bible created all the cosmos, all the elements, OUT OF NOTHING.

Surely, as a Catholic and a Christian, you would want to present the truth about Mormonism, instead of how it wants to present itself. The Catholic church's official teaching is that Mormonism is a cult.

I want to be sensitive here. I know that discussions about what one's church teaches can be dangerous territory. So, in the spirit of the Spirit, let me make the following observations.

When one believes they are reading or hearing the teachings of any institution, one should consider the source. If you do not want to know what the Mormon church teaches, and you prefer to believe what someone else said, that's your right. Do you believe what the Catholic church says about herself, or do you believe others? I usually check sources to make sure that the source truly speaks with authority for the institution.

I followed up on the source used by ansell12 who wrote about what Mormons believe. I could not find the author of the source, and I saw that the site was not just traditional, but very orthodox. I have no quarrel with traditional Catholics (I consider myself to be very traditional), nor with most who are orthodox. However, I try to rely on credible sources when I use them to state an opinion. You may note that I also cited The Catholic Encyclopedia in an earlier post.

Second, the word "cult" has many definitions. I've read that Pope Benedict XVI referred to our church as a "cult." In some ways, Free Republic could be defined as a cult. Words have meanings. I find it best to make sure we understand which meaning applies.

Please forgive my didacticism. I'm old, I have received much formal education about the Church (Catholic), I've worked for her and I was an English teacher.

I'm sorry if my attempt at smoothing over what I thought could be a mistake (the post by Ansell12 concerning what Mormons believe) was the catalyst to your discomfort.

You are so full of crap! I vowed not to keep posting to you, but I'm breaking it. You are so over the top.

Moses 1:33

“And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.”

Stop the outright fabrications of what he beleives. Why do you smear this man's faith repeatedly right before the most important election in our lifetimes? Your methods continue to be no different then liberals who spin half truths to gain points and persuade through deceit and anger.

Get behind me.

Because it was a Catholic source you claim they are lying about the Mormon belief in becoming a God, yet all Christian churches agree on this simple Mormon theology, even your church does if it is a Christian church, even Billy Graham does although he temporarily removed the writings on the cult.

This is from the Church of Latter Day Saints themselves (official church site)::
“The Prophet Joseph Smith taught: “God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man. … he was once a man like us … God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth. …” 6

“If Jesus Christ was the Son of God, and … God the Father of Jesus Christ had a Father, you may suppose that He had a Father also. … And where was there ever a father without first being a son? … If Jesus had a Father, can we not believe that He had a Father also? …

“He [Jesus] laid down His life, and took it up, the same as His Father had done before.” 7

Long before our God began his creations, he dwelt on a mortal world like ours, one of the creations that his Father had created for him and his brethren. He, with many of his brethren, was obedient to the principles of the eternal gospel. One among these, it is presumed, was a savior for them, and through him they obtained a resurrection and an exaltation on an eternal, celestial world. 8 Then they gained the power and godhood of their Father and were made heirs of all that he had, continuing his works and creating worlds of their own for their own posterity—the same as their Father had done before, and his Father, and his Father, and on and on. With these things in mind, W. W. Phelps, in a hymn, asks the question:

“If you could hie to Kolob
In the twinkling of an eye,
And then continue onward
With that same speed to fly,
D’ye think that you could ever,
Through all eternity,
Find out the generation
Where Gods began to be?” 9

Nothing is more basic in the restored gospel than these truths that, because of recent events of space travel, are so timely. The great hope of the gospel for us is that we may come to a oneness with our Lord and our Father and partake of this same work and glory and godhood. Being joint-heirs of all that the Father has, we may then look forward to using those powers to organize still other worlds from the unorganized matter that exists throughout boundless space. Creating other worlds, peopling them with our own eternal posterity, providing a savior for them, and making known to them the saving principles of the eternal gospel, that they may have the same experiences we are now having and be exalted with us in their turn—this is eternal life. 10 No wonder this possibility continues to fascinate and inspire Saints of all ages.”

Thanks for posting this. While I have quietly walked away from Mormonism, I am proud of my heritage.

I also recognize a true leader regardless of religion.

Great story!

I had committed to myself that I would not make a financial contribution this time around as I was just an ABO voter this year. As I finished reading this story I toggled back to my email inbox where at that instant a Romney for President email arrived. I just donated...

I don’t really want to get into an argument. I wrote what I originally wrote so that those who read this thread would not take the word of a poster for what the Roman Catholic church teaches about Mormonism. I hoped to include the thought that one should, perhaps, consider what Mormonism teaches.

I wanted to stress checking sources. By doing so, I’ve found that many doctrines espoused by “Mormons” are contradictory, and are so because the doctrine developed over time.

I don’t choose to believe what many other Christian churches believe; and because of my education, I wonder how some of them can truly consider themselves Christian; but they do.

And finally, nowhere did I claim that anyone was “lying about the Mormon belief. . . .” Please be precise and read with care. I take a lot of time to make sure that what I write is what I really mean, so I’d appreciate an effort to read what is written. I work at NOT being emotional in my writing when discussing ideas or pointing out what I perceive to be inaccuracies of either substance or style.

Run-on sentences are particularly difficult to follow and are, therefore, open to misinterpretation. (I refer to the first “sentence” of your post.) This is Free Republic: a site where readers read and writers write!

I hope you saw the OFFICIAL Mormon source in post 73, to partly quote it “”Long before our God began his creations, he dwelt on a mortal world like ours, one of the creations that his Father had created for him and his brethren. He, with many of his brethren, was obedient to the principles of the eternal gospel. One among these, it is presumed, was a savior for them, and through him they obtained a resurrection and an exaltation on an eternal, celestial world. 8 Then they gained the power and godhood of their Father and were made heirs of all that he had, continuing his works and creating worlds of their own for their own posterity—the same as their Father had done before, and his Father, and his Father, and on and on.””

What a crock of lies and deceit you posted, you merely didn’t like the respected Catholic source quoted so you are claiming it as “ word of a poster for what the Roman Catholic church teaches about Mormonism”, Pope John II himself ruled on Mormonism as not being Christian in 2001. Every denomination from Lutherans, to Presbyterians, to Southern Baptists and the Greek Orthodox agree that Mormonism is an entirely different, made up religion, and is not Christian. One of the reasons is Polytheism and that Mitt Romney for instance, is in the process of becoming GOD.

You did claim that the respected Catholic source was lying, or made up the Mormon theology, yet you didn’t question it when you saw the official Mormon source saying the same thing. I get the impression that you harbor some hostility to Christian churches, especially since you seem wounded by the word “cult”, and your eagerness to gather the wagons around Mormonism, and your less than honest and straight forward method.

This is from another highly respected source on Catholic teachings. Tell me your denomination and I will look for their teachings on Mormonism.

“”While individual Mormons may be persons of good conscience, Mormonism itself is a belief system that would reduce the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit from being the three Persons of the one, true, and infinite God to being three limited, finite deities among an uncounted multitude of deities, all of whom merely reshaped small parts of a preexisting cosmos.

Mormonism teaches that human beings may, by practicing the tenets of its faith, become gods and goddesses themselves, with their own planets full of people worshiping them.””

Not everyone agrees with Catholicism either. They also have some teachings that are unscriptural.

When it comes to whether Mormonism is Christian, and why it isn’t, ALL Christianity is in agreement, the Greek Orthodox, all the Protestant churches, and the Catholic denomination.

Christianity has it’s internal arguments, but they DO NOT disagree about Mormonism.
