Prepare For A Wave Of Looting After Hurricane Sandy
Business Insider ^ | 30 October 2012 | Abbey Rogers

It's all anecdotal at this point, but if crime reports following hurricanes Katrina and Irene are any indication, the East Coast is in for a crime wave, post-Sandy.

No reports of looting or Hurricane Sandy-related crimes have been reported yet but that doesn't mean we won't see some soon.

Following Hurricane Katrina, the most devastating hurricane in modern memory, New Orleans was besieged with reports of looting, rape, and murder, causing delayed troop deployments, delayed medical evacuations, and police department mutiny, The New York Times reported in 2005....(excerpt)

>> New Orleans was besieged with reports of looting, rape, and murder

Sounds like a sentence in an ESPN article about a Saints home game.

America’s richest county ~ FAIRFAX COUNTY VA ~ in general the cops here are fairly well behaved, so there’s little risk they’ll go nuts. Still, if they do, and start looting and stealing cars like they did in New Orleans I’d imagine there’ll be a people’s militia rise up and go protect the Galleria at Tysons or something.

Well, the internet’s working OK so maybe the security cameras will be, too. :-)

Prayers for y’all’s well being.

Report just out that 7 subway tunnels under the East River are flooded.

Looters who weren't already positioned in Manattan are not likely to be able to get there without some serious walking ~ then they gotta' walk back carrying 48" TVs and crates of beer.

Seriously, isn't going to happen.

This storm is but a distraction. The looting is nearly complete.

Thanks for your concern. Just a few minutes to go and we’ll know how bad it is around here ~ could be trees across roads ~ but we lost most of the big dangerous trees during the durecho this Summer.

We fared pretty good in Rochester, NY. Although it rained and blew pretty good, we only got a bit of basement seepage and the power momentarily went out, but came right back on. Monroe County tried to get people to evacuate their homes along the Lake Ontario shoreline, but most people stayed as the lake level is especially low this year and the waves didn’t hit the houses. 20,000 people did lose power.

Call me a cynic but I see this as nothing but a build up so that, when New Orleans style behavior doesn’t occur, the media can fall back on the line about how Obama did such a GREAT job of handling the “disaster” and, unlike George Bush, all of the looting and bad behavior was avoided.

BUSINESS INSIDER??? Consider the source . . .

Ah, the consequences of effectively no (legal) gun ownership.

If I recall correctly, didn’t someone shoot him in New York? :P Perhaps he should have imagined wearing a ballistic vest. :P

Not much looting is gonna happen because:
A.) Sh*tload of Italians and Irish live around there and they won’t LET it happen.
B.) It is not New Orleans, different breed of people
C.) Everyone got their Obama phone, so they’re good.

I agree with what you are saying - the media, however, will never admit that the problem in New Orleans was about the mentality of the people and will forever try to imply that Bush was the problem. By the same token, they will play this up as though we are comparing apples to apples and praise Obama endlessly for the fact that this behavior doesn’t occur. Of course, the foolish among us, will fall for it.

“and [New Orleans] police department mutiny,”

And let’s not forget the police department looting. I’m sure many here remember the video of the two NOLA cops helping loot a Wal-Mart, while ignoring what was going on around them as the store was being picked clean.

As long as the looters aren’t smoking or drinking 32 oz Slurpees it shouldn’t be of any concern to Bloomie.

Post Katrina Gov. Barbour in Mississippisaid shooting looters would not be considered a crime.

Looting was non-existant.

Oh it will happen, but it will be ‘civilized’ looting under the control of the mob and unions. There will be millions even billions of dollars of stuff uncounted for after this is done.

Sounds like the writer is hoping that there will be looting.
There won't be any where I am.
Almost everyone here is armed.

"No reports of looting or Hurricane Sandy-related crimes have been reported yet but that doesn't mean we won't see some soon."

The last four years have been one "maybe" after another .. one "it has to hasppen right now" after another .. one "it isn't but we'd better prepare anyway" after another.

I'd LOVE to go back to elementary school just to hear and experience positive fact again ...

"One and one is TWO ? ... really ?!"
