Just voted in Maryland.
We live in the northern tip of Montgomery County Maryland, just outside DC As usual, VERY few Dem yard signs in our town of about 18,000 ever -- conservative enclave in liberal county. This year Romney signs all over the place...virtually every house.
Lived here 25+ years and EVERY election in past no lines to vote...we usually just walk right in, vote, and leave in 5 minutes. Always go to polls about 9 AM just after people who vote before going to work are gone.
THIS year -- temps in the low 30s (much colder than ever before (in my memory) -- the line was out the door and down the road -- took 2+ hours to vote.
IOW, the majority republicans who live here know that MD will go democratic and usually don't vote -- yet they showed up in HUGE numbers nonetheless THIS TIME...for the FIRST TIME.
Tells me the enthusiasm to vote republican -- even if unlikely to go our way in our state -- is OFF THE CHART!

Oops, except his point was that he lives in a Republican oasis within MD and sees high R turnout...
We voted here in Northern California. Very wholesome crowd there. Everyone had an earnest determined expression. Very busy for late morning.
I looked up past the voting booth into the inner sanctum of the Lutheran church, and amid the streaming colors from the stained glass was a banner which said “You Count!”. Very cool!
They even accepted my driver’s license this time, instead of telling me it wasn’t needed.
Good news!
And I sure hope you stop your sodomite “marriage” law at the polls. We need to keep a perfect record intact.
We live in Prince George’s County MD and the lines were much worse last election in our area. i dont think the Dems are turing out in droves this time. I was in and out in 20 minutes but last time it took 2 and a half hours. I dont even want to alk about Romney signs...I have had 5 stolen out of my yard over the past few weeks. I have 1 sign left and I am saving it for tomorrow morning and hanging balloons from it to celebrate Romney/Ryan winning :)
Americans really get the short end of the stick with NO small diesel trucks. I am looking at an F250 or F350 crew cab - way more truck than I want or need - just because I want a diesel. I have never ONCE hauled more than a ton of anything. Really, it’s a rip-off of the people by the gov’t, auto companies, and the CAFE standards mess. Drive a HILUX some time: it’s a pity these kick-ass small diesels are not available to the general public. What I’d really like is a long-bed crew cab F150 with a nice little high-torque diesel, alas - “no.”
That great but we all know the reality of Maryland. More dead democrats in PG, Balto and Montgomery counties will be casting ballots than live Republicans in the rest of the state.
I hope this drifts over into PA and VA because that’s where it’s gonna count.

I had a bunch here who told me they were supporting him in the primary, against Romney obviously. I never liked him.
It was massive development. In fact new neighborhoods are still going up now under Democrat rule killing the woods and crowding the schools and voting Dem. They just raise our taxes for more recycling and water fees to compensate.
Also is the Balkanization of county. Koreans, Indians, Pakistanees. Too many too fast. But most of them seem to marry before being parents, one positive thing. But their kids wont. They will pick up the bad.
I remember in the early 1990s when it was still R the NAACP local chapter wrote an edition in the Sun complaining that Howard didn't have enough services to support poor people and help those with drug problems and for single Moms, well now it does.
And early 90s they passed a law making it illegal to refuse Section 8. That left apartments to the real poor (and criminal types) and new immigrants as all others fled.
That could be a good sign that the Republican running for senate has a shot at winning.
Im not saying that MD will go red, but more so that a large percentage of the dems are not real thrilled. But, I’ll take the kiss Either way ; )
Common sense tells us to expect that, after all in 2008 Obama was the blank page they could wish anything they liked. But Maryland economy does much better than the rest thanks to all the $$$$ from DC.
It was hope and change, now its fear and division. “Get out the vote or Romney will ..(fill in scary part here depending on your demographic) you.
It’s a shame; I remember the county being a bunch of nice, family-oriented communities in the late 1980s even if you needed permission to paint your own front door (but that was just Columbia, I assume).
According to the latest census survey, nearly 20% (!) of the people in Howard County are classified as foreign-born; between that and the escapees from P.G. county and maybe north/east Montgomery, it’s got to be a real mess. Their voting patterns sure do reflect it.
The line took about 15-20 minutes. The line was all white - we are a fairly diverse area - so that was different. Can't make too many assumptions with that, though, as there are a lot of union and liberal types around. Overall, it suggested a larger turnout than usual and I saw nothing discouraging.
Well, just as a side note, I have six family members in Charles County that are die hard democrats and supported Obama last election that couldn't get to their polling place fast enough today to vote for Romney/Ryan!!!

We live in brooklynn park/ brooklynn, voted at 7 this morning. took 30 minutes, it normally takes about 3, pretty busy.
It heartens me to hear that. I voted early last time and felt like I had blundered into a Obamanation rally. I voted near lunch this time and there was no line at all. One of the poll workers did comment that voting in my heavily democrat district was no where near 2008 levels.
I’d like to hope for a surprise, but I know better. The best we can hope for is to shoot down the gay marriage initiative and the gambing initiative.
I live just outside DC in Mo Co - vote EVERY time, because of these STUPID ballot questions that always crop up ...
This time: NO on DREAM, NO on Gay Marriage, NO on Casinos, NO on re-districting CD-6 ...
I’m in Carroll county and I’ve never seen the polls this busy
Over the last 30-40 years you can count them on one hand. Recently there was a one term governor (Ehrlich) and there was Spiro Agnew back in the 70s!
