How to Survive Thanksgiving at Your Liberal Relatives
Big Government ^ | November 18, 2012 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 11/18/2012 10:01:02 AM PST by Kaslin

As a public service to our readers, and as a gesture towards civility in our national discourse, we offer the following how-to-guide for surviving Thanksgiving dinner at the home of your triumphant liberal relatives:

Arrival. “Your home looks lovely. Almost like it’s worth what you paid for it. Obama didn’t help with that yet, did he? Oh, well, maybe next term. May I use your bathroom?”

In the unlikely event that your host’s home has appreciated in value, use this introduction instead: “Love what you’ve done with it. Better dump it before the new year, though, or you might face that new Obamacare tax.” (Wait until after dinner to make a lowball offer.)

How can you fight this? (rhetorical question) Is there anything to do other than to stand aside and let things play out? (serious question)

I can't fight it nor would I want to. It is their child and their responsibility to raise him. How can they fight it? They could start by not paying for the tattoo and by not giving him a ride to get it. From what I understand they waited 3-hours with him while it was done. The kid doesn't have a job and he has no resources; without their money and a ride in their car he doesn't get it. But again, those decisions were up to them.

****I heard the first lady say the other day if you get a tatoo***

And if your tatoo becomes infected Obamacare will pay to have your arm taken off! Ain’t it great!

1) Don't go to a liberal relative's house for Thanksgiving, host a Thanksgiving meal at your place.

2) Don't invite liberal family members. If questioned as to why they are not invited, tell them this meal is only for those who have worked for and earned what they have, and are not thankful about stealing from others to redistribute.

3) If contact with liberal family members is unavoidable, go armed with facts about socialism's failures, hussein's (numerous) failures. Refuse to get drawn into an emotional argument, stick to the simple facts. When you are inevitably personally attacked, don't sink to their level, point it out, announce that the discussion is obviously over when they have nothing but vitriol left.

I'm doing #1 & #2 this year, and thankfully won't have to do #3. Idiot liberal BIL will not be in attendance.

My Dad remarried after my parents divorce. His new wife was a flaming leftist and co-opted his whole being. I lost my dad.

Fortunately she died this year in February so she couldn’t vote for her King Obama one more time and see him win.

I have to ask everyone here:

—Have you ever had friends/relatives who are very intelligent people who are leftists and then ask yourself in bewilderment: “How is it possible for people who are so intelligent not to see the folly in their value system???”

I’ve had to ponder this question many times and the only thing I can come up with is that INTELLIGENT people can also be NAIVE. That’s the only explanation I can think of. Does anyone else have an answer?

One friend is an alcoholic more or less, so even though he’s a brilliant software engineer, he sits in front of cable TV at night, probably watching Piss Matthews on MSNBC and in a state of stupor, the brainwashing has crept it.

I welcome anyone else’s point of view on this, because I’m totally confused how can intelligent people be so wrong...

Thank goodness, I don’t have liberal relatives. They all graduated from real college and have real minds. Chances are, we won’t be discussing black friday sales and reality tee vee either.

Intelligence is a delicate thing. I mean, when we say "intelligent" we mean someone with a good memory, who is articulate and has decent pattern recognition. That doesn't mean they aren't also highly suggestible.

I hate taking things from novels to illustrate real life, but I've never gotten over Stephen King's Firestarter. In it, Charlie's father Andy has the ability to "push" someone with his mind... to make basically post-hypnotic suggestions and then give them a psychic nudge that renders them unable to ignore it. In the novel he says that intelligent people were basically the easiest to influence. Dumb people were almost impossible.

I think King was onto something (whatever his own politics might have been.) Intelligent people tend to be receptive and imaginative, as well as a little egocentric and basically insecure. They know they are beta males in the land of brutes. They possess imagination and can dream of perfect worlds without much awareness of how humans really operate. Finally, a little flattery goes a long way. Just as minorities have been convinced that Democrats are their champions, so many intellectuals have been convinced that they are a natural aristrocracy that only Democrats recognize. Therefore...

Ew. I say “basically” too much. I should swap it out with “essentially” from time to time, just for variety.

“WHO gave the order to NOT rescue our men in Banghazi?”

There will never be an answer to that.

For some strange reason, Republicans/Conservatives have no stomache for dealing with visceral, psychotic Progressives.
The closer one comes to the truth, the more visceral and irrational Liberals become, using every technique open to psychopaths in their insane frame of mind that’s protected by darkness.

There are no words adequate enough to describe these people.

IMHO

It’s official you receive humorous post of the day. Thank you!

You're welcome, but no humor was intended.

Open carry and bring a copy of the Constitution with you. As favorite Liberal subjects come up, such as gay marriage, abortion, or no voter ID, pull out the Constitution and ask them to identify where that is found. When they retort with "equal protection," respond with, "Yes, just as I shouldn't be required to show ID to purchase this handgun, and be allowed to 'keep and bear' it anywhere in the US, as it actually does say here in the Constitution?"

Enjoy the rest of your dinner in silence. :)

Oh my god I was just discussing this with my two sons. My niece is a nancy Pelosi type and my sister is out there too. My comment will be “you have no idea whats coming your way” and leave it at that.

I’ve faced this a few times. More difficult due to hubby’s broken family.
Solution 1: The Thanksgiving is at my house, citing the fact that I have young children. Inform everyone that we are Christians and passing on these traditions to the children. If you are uncomfortable with prayer and “thanksgiving” around the table, we’ll see you on Christmas eve or the day after Christmas.
Solution 2: We are at there home. I request that politics not be discussed, so that there is not fighting in front of the children. I had to use this when pregnant with #2 and hubby’s stepmother was offended that I was watching a Christian show in the guest bedroom.

You may be correct, however, we must keep asking the questions while they try to study every but:

WHO gave the order to NOT rescue our men in Benghazi?

WHEN?

WHY?

Thanks for your post.

It could be true that intelligent people are easiest to influence, especially because there is so much social pressure to be “open minded.”

In fact, being “open minded” to fascist ideas is really being closed minded to rational thought.

I’d like to agree that my Lib family/friends are just naive, but sadly some are truly Socialists 9and those are family-—I’d NEVER have such a person as a friend!!).

As for my family Libs, well we just agree to not discuss politics because we are polar opposites on the subject and any discussion leads to complete furor! There is no convincing them. I’ve tried for over 20 years!

“I don’t go because of the hatred displayed by the more angry, militant leftists in the family who cannot be in a room with a conservative without frothing at the mouth.”

Agree with you....Have friends and family I have not dealt with since the 2008 election....One black Christian who I have known for 30 years voted Obama and I do not want to know how they voted this time.....
