Manchin on gun control: 'We need action'
CNN ^ | 12/17/2012 | Ashley Killough

Posted on 12/17/2012 8:16:39 AM PST by Qbert

(CNN) – Sen. Joe Manchin, a conservative Democrat from West Virginia and "proud gun owner," said Monday he believes last week's Connecticut elementary school shooting should be the tipping point in the debate over limiting gun rights.

"I just came with my family from deer hunting. I've never had more than three shells in a clip. Sometimes you don't get more than one shot anyway at a deer," Manchin said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "It's common sense. It's time to move beyond rhetoric. We need to sit down and have a common sense discussion and move in a reasonable way."

His tone sounds markedly different from one of his television ads as a Senate nominee in 2010, when he used a rifle to put a bullet through the Cap and Trade bill. He was serving as the state's governor at the time.

The senator was re-elected this year and doesn't face another election until 2016, giving him ample room to take political stances unpopular with his base.

Manchin pointed to Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, who announced Sunday she will re-introduce an assault weapons ban when Congress reconvenes in January.

So, lets chase this chicken around the barnyard one more time.

1. We have numerous local, state, and Federal gun control laws that are ineffective and serve as no barrier to criminal activity. TRUE.

2. There has been another mass murderer who has used guns. In this case clearly legally owned weapons. TRUE.

3. So, to prevent future such tragedies we are going to have more gun control laws. Let's run that one again! FALSE.

If you have trouble seeing where I am going please push the reset button and repeat the loop step 1 through 3 as many times as necessary.

Naw, let's let the Government chase the chicken. We have the Bull by the horns and the Tiger by the tail. We're busy. The Government never is busy. Besides watching them chase the chicken will be fun.

RE :”2. There has been another mass murderer who has used guns. In this case clearly legally owned weapons. TRUE.”

Here's a question.
Given that his Mom, who was the first one to get it actually noticed that her son was losing it , then why didnt she keep her guns locked up so he couldnt get them?

I can guess that she didnt realize he was capable of what he did.

I knew someone with schizophrenia many and years ago he tried going off his meds on his own and I can tell you it was lucky that his Mom (who he was living with at the time) did not have those sort of guns lying around the house.
Eventually she had to call the police because he grabbed a nife and appeared to be up to no good from his words.

"Manchin ran for senator as a big 2nd Amendment advocate. The guy was lying."

I kept warning people in 2010 that Manchin wasn't who he claimed to be, and that he shouldn't get endorsements from any pro-2A organizations. It should have been a wake-up call when he appointed a guy to replace Robert Byrd who subsequently voted to confirm vehement gun-grabber Elena Kagan to SCOTUS without lifting a finger.

Maybe this will be the tipping point that leads West Virginia voters to toss this guy out the next time he’s up for re-election?

“There has been another mass murderer who has used guns. In this case clearly legally owned weapons. TRUE.”

Not entirely. The guns were legally owned by the shooter’s mother.

So ... all you morons at the NRA who ENDORSED this jackass ...

and all you morons at Free Republic who had the insufferable gall to tell me that endorsing a demonicRat was a good thing to do ...

How 'bout it?

You gotta just LOVE that strong second amendment supporting, pro-gun, NRA endorsed demonicRat that supports Diane Feinstein and her "reasonable" gun bans.

Second Amendment protections were put in place so that citizens could shoot operatives of an oppressive government, not deer.

"Hi-capacity"?

How about all the "hi-capacity" misinformation, distortions, wild speculations, and outright lies which have been spewed endlessly as "facts" 24/7 from the media ever since these murders happened?

Can we do something about limiting these morons to "3" shots at it? Why do they need more?

When I was a kid, newspapers tried to get the truth the first time. Seldom did it take them more than "3" attempts - and this was in the days before computers and marvelous communication gear!

Tellingly, it was also in the days before huge numbers of Liberals showed up to openly crap in our national punchbowl.

But ... But ...

The NRA said:

“Joe Manchin is committed to protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms guaranteed to all Americans,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. “His strong dedication and voting record have earned him an “A” rating from the NRA-PVF, and we proudly endorse him for re-election to the U.S. Senate.”

How can this be?

This will not sit well with West Virginians. Obama’s environmental policies are decimating the state and this type of dialog, in step with Obama and major city Democrats, will not help his reelection chances. Trouble is, WVA was in Democrat hands for so long under the Byrd machine that it will take a very high profile Republican or Independent to win a seat. Good news is that WVA consistently voted against Obama and I commend them for that.
